Hajime Machida (Kanata Hosoda) is a high school student. He is not good with his studies or playing sports. He does like people and he is loved by those around him. One day at school, Hajime Machida gets hurt and he goes to the school infirmary for treatment. There, he meets classmate Nana Inohara (Nagisa Sekimizu). She treats Hajime Machida instead of the school nurse who is not there. Nana Inohara tells him that she does not like people. After that, Hajime Machida begins to care about her and Nana Inohara begins to have feeling for him.

Based on manga series "Machida-kun no Sekai" by Yuki Ando (published from March 13, 2015 to April 13, 2018 in manga magazine Bessatsu Margaret).
Filming began July 1, 2018 and took about 6 weeks to finish.
Movie's theme song is "Itemotattemo" by Ken Hirai.

KD Jan 06 2020 5:11 pm The age ranges of the cast is so strange to me! It seems so mismatched. The actor and actress playing Inohara and Machida are so much younger than the other actors playing students. The manga is pretty good. I hope the movie does it some justice.

Dokikun Nov 27 2019 3:26 am I watched this movie without any expectation but I got shocked because of the cast. How did the director got agreement for all supporting artist? This is one big versatile artists in one film. Woww...

The story is so good but unfortunately with a short time movie, it can't covered all beautiful aspect from the original manga. A spoiler a bit: I was a bit cried when Machida got help from his friend and even stanger who was being helped by him before. He unconsciously influenced and impress them to be a better person. While a lot of evil deeds and passivity happened, if there is a little kindness, there is still a hope. This story reminds me a bit of Pay It Forward movie and it's really a great one.

filmbeats Jul 23 2019 6:50 pm Somewhat mixed feelings about this movie but it's more good than bad. Part of this stems from Machida being this extreme character whom doesn't really feel like he could be a real person. Inohara on the other hand definitely does feel like a real person. The two interact well but I think the actress is the glue that holds everything together.
