Jin-Ae (Eugene) has a love and hate relationship with her mother San-Ok. She dreams of becoming independent from her family and especially from her mother. Jin-Ae falls in love with Hoon-Jae and marries him. Meanwhile, what awaits for Jin-Ae is her new mother-in-law. While experiencing difficult times with her mother-in-law, Jin-Ae begins to understand her mother San-Ok for the first time.

First acting role for Eugene since she gave birth in April, 2015 to her first child (a daughter).

MCE Sep 13 2022 12:39 am I watched this drama due to my curiosity since Ms Ko Doo-Shim got the grand prize in 2015 KBS Drama Awards. Ms Ko Doo-Shim as Im San-ok in this drama splendidly done her role.All emotions she portrayed done naturally. There were comedy scenes in the early part of the episodes that really made me laugh. However, in the latter parts of the episodes it were full of sad emotions that I can’t controlled the tears fell in my cheeks. Congratulations to the whole team of this drama. I enjoyed watching it.

Icenote Jan 08 2021 1:35 am This drama makes no sense. The parents all do reprehensible things like manipulating people using children (Sanok) and act like hypocrites but they are portrayed as morally upright despite them being awful human beings.

Seriously, why are the morhers in this show so awful? And the father figure is shown as a blundering idiot whose “goodness” covers up his adulterous nature?

And why are the male characters all so gutless?

Michele Sep 09 2019 1:45 pm One of my all time favorite K Dramas. Like JT said below, Korean family dramas are so good because they are about characters of all ages, not just the young people. Love Lee Sang-Woo as Hoonjae. (Not too crazy about his character in "Golden Garden".) Lovee Kim Kap-Soo as the loving father too. His excellent actor award was well-deserved.

Jang Cheol Woong is quite awful too. He really should reunite with Hwang Young Sun. They deserve each other.

zombie Oct 04 2017 12:40 pm I dropped this drama before the 10th epi cuz the writer didnt give me any clue of what was gonna come or maybe i didnt undestand the plot or maybe I didnt have enough patience, I like it when the writer puts all the cards in the 1st epi so youll have a good idea of what youll be expecting but the intersting thing is that this drama has very good ratings and most of the comments are favorable so maybe ill give it another shot starting from epi 20

At first i doubt bcs the drama didnt look like it done well as the short drama did. the setlist really seems like a fake and the shoot, the ost and etc just awful (compared to a short drama) but I'm still do it anyway bcs I wonder what makes the longer drama has a bigger rating (yet everyone still making those short ep drama with big budget while they're so so on rating?) I choose this drama to see eugene >< how could she be so pretty right after giving a birth :" but I'm really impressed with everyone's acting,they did so much better than the one in short ep drama!!!! and the stories are so real :" but the thing is i get annoyed by jang chaeri's part it srsly annoying I keep skipped her part whenever she comes

Avery Apr 18 2016 9:39 pm at first i wanted to watch "crazy mom". however my negligence brought me to this drama and having to realize that i was watching "all about my mom" instead. i continued watching nevertheless. glad to have watched this drama. it brings you varieties of laughter and tears jerking moments. The last few episodes are very heart warming and touching. It had been a long time since i last watched a good korean drama. rating 10/10!

Shortfus Apr 18 2016 7:20 pm I've been watching kdrama for over 30 years and this show has to be the most frustrating and annoying drama so far. Not a one redeeming character or actor to be had in this show. Three kids, all rejected by the prospective in-laws all because they are not rich. I really hope this drama (and just about all kdrama) is not true reflection of Korean society these days - if you are not rolling in money, you are nothing. If you do not have blue-collar job, you are nothing. If you do not have a collage degree, you are nothing. If you are an orphan, you are nothing. If you do not wear brand-name clothing, you are nothing. If you are not doctored pretty, you are nothing.

There isn't one single fresh storyline in this drama - over 30 year-olds are treated like toddler by their parents; the off-springs have no mind of their own, regardless of their age; if you are rich, you could get away with anything, including treating your prospective in-laws like a trash. Once they discover that you are rich, all is forgiven. Seen these stories all before, just done much better and not so freaking annoying way. I don't know how this show became #1 in rating - Jo Bo-ha (Cherry) has to be the most irritating actress of all kdramas. That voice could remove rust from bottom of any boat. And how about Hoon-jae's aunt? She could grab the scepter from Cherry's character as the most irksome character. Too many exasperating characters to speak of in this kdrama.

I'm Korean and I truly hope that non-Korean viewers don't believe everything they see on kdramas. Most Koreans are not kdrama-people bad or stupid or irritating. Really we are not. I guess those characters make more-watchable dramas?

CatSlave Apr 15 2016 10:28 pm PS why is Hye Joo's mother so far down in the listing ( Nam Gi-Ae ), along with the boy who played San? The Tae Hang Ho fellow that I *THINK?* was Hoon Jae's partner was a much lesser role--the fact that I can only vaguely picture him at all while the scenes of Hong Yoo Ja and San are rich in my mind says a lot... they were in over half the episodes, after all, not a couple total! Even Jin Ae's "competition" for Hoon Jae was less crucial and present on the whole than San+his grandmother(and his father though he wasn't in as many as those two)... still not as messed up as the rating going from 95 (pre-awards show) to 83 after it!

I can't believe this has an 83 rating on here--what trolls are screwing with the system (what show didn't win that they'd come bash what is one of the best shows I've seen from any nation)? The grand prize and those high ratings aren't for nothing. I watched at first for the young couple (Eugene+Lee Sang Woo), but I ended up admiring all the actors and liking all the characters except still being irked at Chae Ri, her arrogant dad and most of all the grandma with her double standards (but warming up to the former, at least, though the latter only became warm in the very end)... Then again, if I liked everyone equally, it'd be unreal. The pain they delivered crushed me and made me call my family members even more than normal, probably making them worry about me feeling so homesick! The greatest relief=Ko Du Shim is still with us to play another astounding role! :)

It really explains what happens in a family and expresses parents love for their children even when the childern take it for granted. A must watch drama highly recommended. It's storyline, is realistic and relatable. But I highly recommend this drama again though, it's not all about the daughter and mother as it says in the synopsis. Anyways I'm sad it ended, but every drama as an end right?

afang1004 Feb 14 2016 1:10 am THIS IS A MUST WATCH DRAMA. The synopsis above is technically correct, but it is not just about the daughter and the mother. There is more to it then just a mother and daughter relationship because the sons come into play and so does the other character. This drama is about a single family and how they have so many obstacles that they each individually have to overcome.

I love how the actors and actresses brought their character to life. I was able to experience and understand how each character felt and I honestly cried non-stop. Each episode had me either teary or I actually cried like a baby. I guess I cried because I can relate, and how I was able to relate was because the storyline is so realistic.

This actually happens in families. There is jealousy, expectation, hardship, financial issues, failures, pride, relationship issues, and so much things in life that each and every individual person in this world would experience once in their life time. The best way to summarize this drama in one sentence is...."You will never know what you have until you lose it..."

I hardly watch dramas that are this long because they become boring, but guess what, I'm waiting for the last episode. YEP that is how good this drama is (;

This drama has it all. There are family values, romance, comedy, and drama. I like it since the drama is so real and it is not exagerated.

I have watched so many korean drama. My best korean drama before watching this drama are what happens to my family (it is similar to this drama it has all romance comedy etc), empress ki,come jang bo ri, what a wonderful life, angry mom, and one hundred year inheritance.

But now it has changed, all about my mom is the best. I am planning to rewath it all over again after it finishes. San Ok gives her best act here, I watched her in lee soon shin you are the best and other dramas, but here she is super amazing in expressing and using all her gesture to tell the story. Chool is awesome too, I watched him in you are the best and other dramas but here his act is the best. No wonder san ok amd chool got the awards. Jin ae or eugene, she is always good in one hundred year inheritance but here she is more real and superb. Chae ri is so funny, she is like a spoiled girl but also loving to san ok. Jin ae's mother in law is so pretty and does awesome job too. I hate hyeong gyu, which means his act is awesome too in being an obnoxious first born son.

This drama never gets me bored in one second. I would rather watching this again then spend my time to watch other korean drama that does not have it all.

Good job for the script writer and director and all the crews. Thank you for such a wonderful korean drama. I enjoyed all the episodes. I am watching from Canada.

Tess Estrada from the Philippines Feb 13 2016 4:24 am I was so impressed with the way Oh Min Seok acted, what a breathtaking and moving act, he cried so naturally when he learned that his mom has months to live at Episode 52, OMG, I really cried a river everytime i watched him, I felt the love and longingness of a child to his mom.. I like all the cast and is the main reason why I was following the drama. Well, except Eugene. Sorry, no intention to offend, but there's something missing in her way to play the role. Or they made the role that way. But still there's no chemistry between Jin-Ae and Hoon-Jae.

Pearl Dec 01 2015 10:54 pm It's a great cast but the quality of the story is nothing to write home about. However, I do enjoy the chemistry between oldest brother and his assistant very much. I'm actually only watching this to see how their story will unfold. Oh Min Suk and Son Yeo-Eun both perform very well in their roles. I think Son Yeo Eun is such a beautiful lady and a very good actress. This is the first time seeing her but I'm already becoming a fan.

melos88 Nov 30 2015 5:51 am i like hoonjae's mother,. but whats is worrying is that she thinks her thirty something son would leave her once he finds out about the father. having so little trust means she doesnt think he is capable of thinking for himself, which confirms that he is more brawn than brain as stated below.

rambaka Nov 28 2015 4:58 pm Just watching ep twenty,Eugene is great, but makes too big a deal about her job. she makes it seem like all these circumstances are conspiring to get her fired from this wonderful job, with hoonjae and her scheming lawyer oppa making ceo distrusts her.....it is a secretarial job not some corporate executive. she should aspire to do better.

I really like her after watching her on King Of Baking, Kim Tak Goo and Creating Destiny. Wish next episode will make highest rating more. This drama is very great. Good job for writer, director and all actor and actress which have been chosen for playing on this drama. Hwaiting!

anonymous Nov 28 2015 9:03 am Love this drama. But somehow the main couple (Jinae and Hoonjae) got too serious and got boring, comparing to Hyeongsoon and Chaeri or Hyeonggyu and Hyejoo. But still, overall, I love this drama, and the casts too. Well, Eugene and Sangwoo are cute together, as well as Minsuk with Yeoeun and Taejoon with Boah. This drama is recommended, 9.5/10 from me.

melos88 Nov 27 2015 5:56 pm Why couldn't they make Song Jong Ho the male lead? He has a very handsome animated face, very delightful to watch, but always relegated to play second fiddle, so to speak. Never been much of a fan for Lee Sang Woo, perhaps it is the character and not him, but comes across as all brawn and no brain type of guy - he cannot even decide whether he is a builder, an engineer or an architect in this drama, not that he can play any of the three convincingly.

weinheim Nov 25 2015 11:32 pm only a few episodes into this drama, its good mindless easy watch. but frustrating to see the men are all a bit weak in character, the father is weak, the eldest brother is selfish, the youngest brother is petty pretending to be a doctor, the male lead is also petty hiding his identity for no good reason. the only character with any character is eugene.

Hoon Jae's mother haughtily dismisses Jin Ae because she's not good enough for her son and does everything she can to break them up without a trace of irony EVEN THOUGH THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO HER which resulted in her being a poor unwed single mother who later became rich. Does that make any sense at all?

She is actually quite realistic, she's biased against her daughter and she definitely plays favourites but she clearly wants the best for her children. I have seen this type of mother in my own family, and it's quite easy to dislike them but this show has helped me see things from a different angle.

The only issue I have with this drama is Kang Hoon-Jane, how a company head has so much time to run around after his love interest is laughable.

I feel sorry for her because her husband is so dependent and shallow (despite being warm and loving). But why does she keep budding into her children's professional life? I think even for a Korean mom she's too much....

She has a job and she's being bullied by her parents and brothers at home... Why hasn't she moved yet? I know korean families are really filial but it's like watching modern cinderella and the evil mother is her own mother... Hope she won't give the deposit from her apartement to her good for nothing brother.

She has another amazing character (although im worried because she always has to deal with hard mother in laws and that summary foreshadows everything LOL). AND Lee Sangwoo is just precious. He is charming and definitely will be an awesome romance together with Eugene.
