One day, 300-years-old Namahage (Hiroki Horikawa) is caught in a trap. While being transferred, Namahage manages to escape. While wandering in the suburbs of Tokyo, Namahage meets 11-year-old Mamoru (Ren Nakajima).
Namahage begins to live at Mamoru's house without Mamoru's mother knowing. Mamoru struggles to hide Namahage from his mother. Meanwhile, bad pet shop traders seek out to capture Namahage.
