When Jeong Ji-An (Kim Hye-Jun) was little, her mother was murdered by her father and her father took his own life on the day of her grandmother's funeral. Jung Ji-An was suddenly left all alone. Her uncle, Jeong Jin-Man (Lee Dong-Wook), took her in and they lived together. While raising Jeong Ji-An, Jeong Jin-Man ran a mysterious shopping mall. Jeong Ji-An eventually enrolled in a university and left her uncle's home. She began to live by herself. One day, Jeong Ji-An hears that her uncle has suddenly passed away. She goes back to her uncle's home, where she lived with him. She becomes to know about the real identity of the shopping mall that Jeong Jin-Man ran.

Spoiler alert to all. Problem was they thought Jinman was dead, therefore the business as well. Only those who are friends would come and defend the niece and honour the code. The business was otherwise up for takes with Jinman's death. But the clean up specialists (people who came by the Bus) also came. Also remember, as Jian is growing up when she cries out for Jinman, she gets rescued and Minhye knows about it, hinting ppl get mobilised when Jian is in trouble. Eg: Her ex employer gets a beating for trying to rob of her wages, etc

SPOLIER ALERT to others I thought Jinman looked like that because he faked his own death. He would have had to fool everyone. Do you remember the scene where they go to mount Jiri? He also takes drugs then to fake a fever and fool his niece to test her survival skills. He has a ph conversation with Pasin about it and comments about how effective the drugs are. Everything happens in the space of a few days (except when they go into the past). Jinman would have been spending the time recovering, coming back to life after almost killing himself.

Cheryl Jul 24 2025 5:38 am I was looking forward to this drama when it came out and subscribed to Hulu so I could watch it. It seems to have had good commercial success but I was honestly disappointed with this drama. I thought the constant shoot outs and drone attacks were boring and I started fast forwarding through a lot of scenes. I even suspected what was going to happen in the end. This is my least favorite thriller. For me, as a K drama fan, one of the characteristics that make K dramas so good is the detailed back story and the way secondary characters are a big part of the storyline. I felt like there were some great characters in this drama but not much is known about them or why they were there to help Jin-An. The little bit of back story we did get made me want to know more about them. Jin-Man's back story as a mercenary could have been more detailed too. This drama is very action based and while I like action, it was just over the top in my opinion. It is the first time I felt that Western influences are changing K dramas. I hope I'm wrong.

Then followed by another. The most disappointing of all was, it made you think think the whole shopping mall was a big group and will be supported by whatever codes but it literally just them.

I was doubtful that Jinman died and glad that he came back alive but why the hell is he looking like he got Beat. Up.So. Bad?!, did bale beat him up?!! And poor Jian encountered all those life-death scenes when all this time his uncle was alive like Wtffffff and the way all there enemies just back off when Jian offered them money! altho that was such a logic decision but with the genre it just made me laugh what the hell! it was great to watch but the plot just threw me off and i cant for the life of me accept that there wont be season 2 for it because I. Need. Explanations. Maam/Sir. Thank you.

Quinn Dec 09 2024 11:41 am Wow talk about a roller coaster of a show! This one was amazing; the action was just incredible. This show kept me engaged throughout all 8 episodes. I could not stop watching. My mom who’s in her 70s loved it too, so that’s saying something. “Listen up,Ji-An” became one of the most memorable phrases from any k-drama of recent years for me. If you’re looking for something that is fast-paced, clever and action-packed, this is your show!

One of my top kdrama watches of 2024. This was filmed so well that it felt like I was watching a movie rather than a typical kdrama. The acting and writing was all executed perfectly. I finished this in the span of a few days. Every episode was so intense... I can't believe there isn't more word about this drama.

I'm hoping for a season 2. The ending left me wanting more!

After watching half the series I started thinking how jinman can be so dumb to commit suicide like that without even confirming Jian’s safety. How could he trust babylon will release her once he dies. It was frustrating but it’s all worth when I saw jinman alive. Damn I underestimated jinman. Waiting for season 2

This is an easy 'one of the best' this year.

It starts on the rising action right away, while filling you little by little as you go on, perfect for a suspense and action drama that loves to initiate mystery to the viewers. Episode 8 is also the sweet spot, it's not short but it's also not long for its type. Season 2 is a must just as much as this is a must-watch.

I was sad it was only 8 episodes, but I was left with more questions towards the end (guessing there will be a part two?!). Lee Dong Wook, mwaaah! You are so good! kun Feb 27 2024 2:00 pm If you don't like action-centered drama then this is not for you. It also has a flashback type of storytelling which may be confusing at first but it connects back to the present well plus the different perspectives are fun to know. The plot itself are well written although the other commenter said, the characters have some serious eff ups but if you understood the story you realize where they come from aka the jeong jian have lots of hesitation, "cowardice" because she was suddenly thrown in this bloody world, she's trained but not to the level close to the killers but girl towards the end she improved, she used her brain and what she was taught, made big decisions, and held well until the end. jeong jinman though, is so complexed(like every human). he's distant with jian but indirectly teaches her to be stronger. the one thing i don't get is the ending. not that it was bad but rather confusing like what was all that happened for then? although jian had protectors with her, was her life not valuable to just thrust her in that situation and hope for the best? i do hope this gets another season and be explained well on the why's and what happens with bale and the shopping mall.

I was disappointed at first that there were only 8 episodes, about half the usual K drama episodes but if I had to watch any more I don't think I would have made it to the end. I got tired of all the gun fighting (Boring). My favorite parts where the flashbacks with Ji an and Jin man and I would have liked to have seen more of Ji man preparing Ji An for this inevitable day. I've watched a lot of K drama thrillers and this to me, had one of the weakest storylines, relying mainly on gun fights with the latest technology. And while I am not an expert on Korean thrillers, this was by far my least favorite as it lacked some of the depth of story that I generally experience with K dramas. I can't help but wonder if this is because Disney produced it and is trying to Americanize K dramas with all the guns and souped-up drones. I'm glad I watched this with a free trial because honestly, I was expecting something much better as I am a Lee Dong Wook fan and watched it because of him. I think there was a lot more potential with this story, as again, I thought it was clever. There just wasn't a lot of meat to this story, as it relied mainly on the fighting to carry it forward. I couldn't wait for that one day to be over.

The plot is *chef’s kiss*, unpredictable in the best way possible, and will have you sitting at the edge of your seat the entire time. Every character has a purpose and there aren’t any loose ends (minus the cliffhanger ending that clearly leaves room for another season). The acting is fantastic, the cinematography is beautiful, and as someone who has a weak stomach and can’t stand gore, all the fight scenes were tastefully done. Kudos to all the actors and actresses. Kudos to the writers and directors. They all did a phenomenal job, and I really hope this drama gets nominated for awards because they really deserve it. I’m looking forward to Season 2!! (which will likely be announced this year or next since the second volume of the original novel series was just released last August).

Jinman was in this business and had wanted to give niece a chance to inherit it then he should have first told her about her, second whether he told her or not he should have intensely trained her in fighting as he has enemies. But nahh uncle dear did nothing of the kind. Then worst part is that he intentionally uses his niece like knowingly used her as a bait to lure babylon into shopping mall to create diversion from himself, like this was all intentional and anything could have happenes to niece. He knew how dangerous jeong min is yet expsoed her to him.

Yes it was a unique show but during the course of show you realize jinman's eff ups. Also Ji an was a very very useless character, don't get the logic here that if you want to add someone as a lead then make them a useful character doing useful things, instead she was either messing or losing in fights, atleast make this character an extremely great bad ass fighter, make her more jntelligent, show is already fiction and nothing real so if it is fiction, add more interestign fiction like jian being an extremely great fighter, her beign some genius etc etc who could always protect herself etc.

K Feb 11 2024 11:06 pm Whaaaaat? Is that the end? I was watching it and thought it is an 11 or 16-episode drama, then found out here that it has only 8 episodes. Cliff hanger ending that obviously has season 2 coming soon. Netflix dramas always has this kind of ending. With this I remember Vagabond that kept me waiting for the next season, but none until now 2024.

Blanca Trueba Feb 11 2024 8:15 pm - a very confusing storyline with many flashbacks, many of them repetitive (albeit from different perspectives) - amazing action scenes -- this is the main good thing about this drama - very open ending with the main villain (bale) not in the finale at all, disappointing to some viewers - good acting performances by almost everyone (main and supporting cast) - some of the scenes are too gory and brutal for me, and might not be everyone's cup of tea - i found episode 2 to be the best episode of all (kudos to the talented young actress ahn sebin for delivering an amazing performance) - overall, the first half of the drama is good with tension being built up, but then it goes downhill in the second half of the drama, with disappointment over the last episode

For those who are saying negative things about this show just because they can't understand or comprehend it, wait for the next season! There are still many unanswered questions, and the things that happened to other characters haven't been fully explained yet, there are still many exciting revelations to come, be patient LOL.

I also like the way how they presented the events thru flashbacks while some events are happening at the same time. Great acting, cool cast, and that ending. I hope it will have a season 2 to clear things up - like how Jinman faked his death, where’s Pasin and Minhye, and what happened to Bale.

The last scene when Jin man got out of the taxi, did he already fought with Bale and won? He look wounded.. if it is then the season 2 will probably cover what happened to Jinman while Jian was fighting for her life.. :)

Episode 7 consists entirely of scenes recycled from Episode 1, which I find frustrating. I dislike having to fast forward through repetitive content. Hopefully, the editor will take note and refrain from overusing repeated scenes in future episodes.

The ending was just as expect that he did not xxx , but I anticipate a second season since there are still unresolved aspects regarding the main antagonist.

I beg to differ. He is a Bad uncle. He brought his work to his family. That's a Big Mistake in his line of work.

If he didn't show up at the family's home, his mom, brother and sister-in-law would not be murdered, and his niece would not be targeted as well.

And don't get me started with the fact of how he treated his niece after he took her, even when she was still young. Not treating her aphasia properly and claimed that it was something that the little girl had to solve on their own. My reaction was like the teacher he talked to... WTF????

Bad uncle. I despise and hate the Jinman character.

Potato Feb 08 2024 6:02 pm It's funny how some people are annoyed by the female lead. Jeong Ji An was living a pretty normal life before suddenly being thrown into all these actions.

SPOILER ALERT*

If you look at the situation from her perspective, it is understandable that she chose to believe "her friend" instead of a stranger that she just met. As viewers, we have more information at hand than the characters in the situation that led some of you to think that it was unbelievable for Ji An to believe in "her friend". But for Ji An, the character, she is under a lot of stress of people suddenly trying to kill her. It will be hard to be clear-headed in a life-or-death situation even for battlefield veterans and that's why someone clear-headed is always valued and feared by everyone on the battlefield. At least, she manages to recognize that Min-hye is on her side and asks Brother to help her though the decision comes back to bite her.

As for not killing the said friend afterward, for fuck sake, she never killed anyone beforehand. Unless she is a psychopath, it's pretty normal for her to be averse to killing people for the first time. She thought it was safe enough to leave him hanging and come back later after saving the people who were fighting for her. After all, she is inexperienced in those situations, it's normal to make mistakes.

I have watched a lot of action thriller dramas and movies and this one is easily one of the best ones. Easily top 5, and might even be a top 3 thriller drama depending on the second part if there is any. The only plotholes I can see are how tf Bale survived with a shot in the eye and the bomb in the building. It would be hard to explain how Bale survived that. But I learned to live with a little bit of plot armor with thriller dramas.

My guess is that taxi driver and “detective” are both part of Jin-man’s group. Could either be his shoppers as well or people he deeply knew and trusted. As Jin-man is a mercenary, he surely knows what would kill him and what won’t. The cut that he made on his neck was not that deep to kill him but enough to make him bleed. He faked his death with the help of the detective and sent the taxi driver to assist Ji-an in his fake wake. And ML prolly fought Bale and the General that’s why he was injured at the last scene.

Idk, for me, this was greatly written and executed. The ending was a cliffhanger but it’s enough for me. The only questions I have are how on earth Bale survived that explosion when he had many stab wounds and a shot to the eye? Also, where did Pasin and Minhye go?

Jian is not yet a pro, she is growing in here. so it is common that she cant do like minhye does. the fact that she was not even traumatized when she saw Seongjo cut Honda's hand is uncommon enough. and it is nice to see how they use flashback here and there between episodes, even with so many flashback you wont feel confused (if you really watch it dilligently).

Yuu Feb 05 2024 11:32 am @Blanca trueba I think it was irrelevant whether he appeared at family home or not because he had made an enemy in bale or what is that villain's name, so even if he went to north pole the villain knows his family and would come after them ,only solution would be jinman going back in time and never joining such organization, or not making an enemy out of bale or just taking his whole family into hiding.

At first it did seem like he brought it by visiting them but that was actually waiting to be happen since he had made a new enemy

Blanca Trueba Feb 04 2024 11:30 pm I have watched until episode 6 so far. After understanding the reason why Jian's family is being targeted, I can't help but hate and despise the Jinman character. Yes, the ML, the uncle.

Because of him, Jian lost her father, mother and grandmother. Because of him, Jian was also targeted to be killed even when she was still young. She had to jump from a fourth-floor apartment (and get hit by a van in the process) to avoid being killed by the mercenaries. To make it worse, she was also targeted when she was in the hospital, and she had to flee to the morgue and hide beside her mom's corpse!! Seeing the little girl hugging her mom's dead body while hiding from her attacker breaks my heart.

She also experienced the aphasia / mute issue due to the traumatic incidents and her uncle did nothing to help her -- such traumatic incident needs psychological counselling FGS. Instead, he trained and groomed her to be like him.

If he didn't show up at the family's home, little Jian would have lived a happy life with her parents.

There were very fee drama’s out there where you’d be annoyed by stupid / lame main characters, and this drama is one of it.

On drama it was unbelievable that Bale took a shot on face and his face didn't blow up n he was still alive, then bldg blew up but he still survived without a single scar, on top of all who saved him, why would anyone bother saving him from there in first place, who would pay for his medical care and above all those injuries would need months and months of healing and he is back like he just had a scratch.

It seems clear jinman used jian or himself as a bait to bring in bale and be done with him and team. It is even more ridiculous how theybare spending so many resources to take out jinman or jian when it was an issue between only jinman and bale and not whole company.

Also jian is quite a poor fighter, not a single place where she took down a strong opponent.

Spoiler:: Hopefully her lack of trust in all the right people (Minhye, Brother) and her trust in all the wrong people (Jeongmin) plays a bigger role in the plot, otherwise why on earth would she not believe that Minhye (who saved her life multiple times) and Brother (who happens to be the one other person that has access to her uncle's secret 3-tier security system warehouse) are in fact on her side vs. Jeongmin (who conveniently happens to be useless at all the wrong times). She should consider that if the former were out to kill her, then there’s been plenty of opportunities for them to do that already.

Jian is a great character with a great pure motive, surviving. Jeong min is a nice supplement. But I wonder about which way their relationship goes. Dunno why but I Got a feeling that Jeong min is not Jeong min. Maybe he's one of the assasins?
