LKB Mar 26 2017 2:42 pm Re Narsis, in addition to cable TV not being rated the same because it is pay per view/subscription based, Nielssen ratings only report the top 20 shows in Korea and split that for the whole nation and Seoul so technically there are usually 25-28 shows that "rate" at all. Big networks won't (&aren't required to) show ratings below 5%, which is awful for a free station but amazing for cable in Korea-just think of how much rice or kimchi a family can have w/the cost to view a show and it becomes clear that they won't splurge that often just to see a show; we take for granted how we get to view via third party advertising funded sites, but that isn't the case for natives AND you have to also remember that IF a Korean watches on the " starts with V, rhymes with tricky" site or the not so legal download-enabled ones that does nothing for tvN's ratings that people see-the V site and feverish one bring revenue (not much but any beats none!) but ratings ONLY account for ppl in Korea watching on a television at the time of broadcast or in some cases within 24hrs when they rebroadcast some programs, so if you can't see it til a few days later you aren't going to count in that number, even if you are there, and youth viewing on computers/downloading them do in fact hurt the stations, especially when shows are in the scary 8-12% rating range that often gets them trimmed down 25% or more. Below 8% on a public station and it usually gets cut quickly... We can't change that as international viewers, but ppl IN a program's airing location should, if they have a TV and like a show, be sure it is tuned in at time of broadcast, even if/when they may not watch at that time... They can always set the station and use a wall timer to turn the TV on, after all, for the hour or so the show is airing. For tvN it doesn't matter so much as long as advertisers are content! That said, don't count on this or other fan-run sites for rating data; some other sites (obv. Niellsen ratings has their own site but tvN may not show) are more accurate and thorough w/ratings. Take Goblin: it had super ratings but not a lot of places post the info in English for us since we aren't really impacted as directly-not like we have jobs that depend on it!

@narsis very late reply but typically tvN has a lower audience share because it's a cable channel, as such tvN dramas usually have lower ratings than the big three stations (KBS, SBS, MBC) so ratings aren't a good indicator of how good the drama is. That being said, low ratings look like well, low ratings so tvN might not want to show that off. Generally it's easy to tell if a drama is good or not from comment sections like this or even watching just the first episode can give you a solid idea of what the drama is going to deliver.
