About
Nikkatsu Corporation is the oldest film production company in Japan, and has produced many masterpieces directed by world-class filmmaking geniuses such as Kon Ichikawa, Shohei Imamura, Seijun Suzuki, etc. It possesses a filming studio of its own, and plans / produces original films additionally to producing films ordered by other companies. It also has each division for Theater Operation, Videogram Business, Satellite Broadcasting, and Internet Licensing to cover all business areas relevant to filmmaking.
Company Timeline
- September 1912 - Four movie companies were consolidated to establish Nikkatsu Corporation for production, distribution and promotion of movies.
- June 1954 - Nikkatsu Movie Studio (the largest those days in Asia) was completed in Chofu-shi, Tokyo
- August 1989 - Opened the broadcasting station for communication satellite business in the Studio to enter the communication market.
- March 1990 - Started broadcasting for NECO (CATV stations) and Rainbow Channel (hotel CCTV) from the communication satellite station.
- March 1998 - Digital studio facilities were built in the Chofu Studio.
- September 2002 - Celebrated 90th anniversary.
