I really enjoyed your performance as Kyle you were funny. JJ growe up. It was good to see a non Korean in a Korean show. Don't be afraid.

He did fine. And I'm pretty sure they offered him this role, not that he was begging for one to earn money. At least pay some respect. Why "perfect Korean" was so important?? And I bet we all hardly ever see a white man with such excellent Korean as his. If you want to blame someone for putting a white man in the series, blame that Korean director who wanted something new in his film. That JJ girl down there is terribly shallow.

JJ, get a life and please humble yourself. You say you don't care AFTER a long and pointless rant about an actor. The fact is that you cared. You cared enough to bad-mouth an actor you will never meet. You might not be racist but you are definitely prejudice. It doesn't matter if his Korean is sub-par or not. The fact of the matter is that he took the time to learn it and that deserves respect, especially since he's a foreigner and has to complete for uncommon roles as a foreign actor. He might not make it in Hollywood but he has better chances than you since there would be an array of roles he could possibly fill. As a Korean female, what kind of Hollywood roles would there be for you? You speak English but you're not blonde-haired and blue-eyed. So already, it would be extra hard for you to even find roles fit for you. Imagine the effort he had to put forth to gain roles in South Korea. He may speak Korean but he doesn't look Korean so I'm sure that was an obstacle he had to overcome. You don't have to like his acting or his looks but you need to give respect where it's due. Also, before you do a long rant on anyone else about their Korean-speaking abilities, be sure you at least put forth some effort with YOUR English abilities, especially if you want people to take you seriously. You don't seem like you have trouble speaking English but your grammatical presentation was sub-par.

Wow... I can feel the love. Michael does a passable job as an actor, although (and it's probably more the fault of the writers or directors) I am certainly hopeful that his portrayals are not how the majority of Koreans stereotype Americans. I am however, blown away by his abilities with the Korean language. I have been trying to learn it on and off for more than 25 years and could not even hold a candle to his skills. Why? Because as an American white guy, I love Korea. For the most part I think her people are among the warmest, most down to earth, and most caring folks on the planet. Not to mention the natural beauty found there.

And then you run across people like this JJ person below... sigh.

@JJ (comment #9). You need to go get some therapy because it seems like you have a lot of anger inside you. Ever heard of Lorazepam? Maybe you should overdose on that. No, actually diazepam would be better since it has a longer half life. You have never met this guy and you don't even know him, Yet you are accusing him off all these things. Its nice to see foreigners having a strong interest in Korean culture and making a decent effort to integrate into Korean society. This is not something that you should go all psycho on. I think you SUCK more than all the hating bitches in the world combined. If you are accusing him of looking like a paedo, how about we chuck you into a cell full of paedophiles? That way, you will know what REAL paedo will look like. Get the ---- over yourself and stop hating.

I'm always amazed at people who post these lengthy, vile rants against some actor or singer after only seeing them on TV or reading something about them in the press. Are they really so limited that they can't realize how insignificant whatever small fault they find with them is compared to the awful things that are happening in this world (turn on the news if you don't know what I mean)? Don't they see how their behavior - working up all that hate and cowardly defaming someone who has done them no harm, and for all they know nobody else either - is infinitely uglier than what they are criticizing? JJ's comment is offensive on so many levels that I really think it should be removed.

What is with the hating on this website? I'm Korean and I'm just glad that there are other people from different cultures who have an interest in Korean culture and language. I was so impressed with this guy's Korean language skills because like some of you mentioned, Korean is not an easy language to learn. So why with the negativity? He's a white guy living in Korea who speaks better Korean than some Korean-Americans who never bothered to learn the language in the first place. No one has ever said that only Koreans can speak Korean. YOU should get over YOURSELVES and get a life, not vilify someone for being "cocky" for being able to speak the language. And the pedophile comment? Dude, seriously? Can you tell someone's a pedophile just by looking? That has got to be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard in my life. Seriously. Whoever you are, you should go and read some books and get smarter or something. I mean that in a nice way. I'm wary of white men who seem to have yellow fever, too, but how can you just accuse someone of being a criminal when all you've seen them do is go on TV and speak Korean? Get a life.

His Korean is okay, but not perfect as everyone claims. I can tell the difference; however, adding Westerners in any Korean drama is funny because their acting is terrible, they sound funny when they speak in their native English and Korean. I think I was offended most in Playful Kiss when they cast this white girl as mix Korean-White when she wasn't even Korean-White to begin with. ::roll eyes:: Everyone kept saying her Korean is good, but it wasn't near perfect.

what you remind me of are all those pathetic guys back in the states who couldn't find a woman back home so you go off to an asian country and think you're, as the kids put it, da bomb. i have nothing against anyone dating whomever they choose, but come on, your case is blatantly clear. your acting is subpar, your looks are subpar, and the only thing going for you is the fact you can speak korean well. it's pathetic that koreans think that all they need to find is a white person with blue eyes and can speak the language to fit any foreigner role. what's even more disturbing is the fact that koreans think that all foreigners are american so they put in any foreigner no matter how horrible their accents whilst speaking english and claim that they are american. in your case, it just so happens that you are american, however, you would never make it in hollywood, not even for a douche commerical, and now people are raving about you because you can speak the language. didn't know koreans had such low standards...and before anyone claims i'm a korean racist, i'm korean myself and female. michael blunck, i'm here to tell you, you suck. your acting sucks. your looks suck. your know it all behavior sucks. your picture makes you look like some kind of serial killer/pedophile. and i don't want anyone to give that stupid, "you're just jealous" excuse because quite frankly, that's just a cheap cop out. why such animosity towards michael blunck? in actuality, i don't really care, but i just saw a couple episode with my mom and i couldn't stand you. not your role, but your attitude. get over yourself.

I was taken aback by your performance in 신기생년 as Kyle. I've never seen an American speak Korean with such fluency. Did you take Korean classes at perhaps Yonsei or other 어학당 in Korea? Or maybe you took some college level Korean classes? I'm just amazed at your ability to speak Korean so well. ^__^ 대단합니다, 마이클씨! Keep up the good work and hope to see more of your performance in other dramas in the future!
