The name of the awards was also changed to the "Daejong Film Awards" and its first event took place in 1962.
By the 8th event in 1969 and the 9th event in 1970 the name of the event was changed to the "Korean Culture Arts Awards" but was reverted back to the "Daejong Film Awards" by the 10th event in 1971.
Initially 18 categories were awarded with films being awarded the "good film award". In 1973, a "Best Film" award was created.
