At dawn, on February 18, 1860, samurai of Mito domain Seki Tetsunosuke (Takao Osawa leaves his wife Fusa (Kyoko Hasegawa) and son - Seiichiro Seki (Seishiro Kato) behind to fulfill a deadly mission. In January, Seki Tetsunosuke concluded a pact to execute community leaders of the Mito domain and the highest government official of the shogunate Ii Naosuke (Masato Ibu).
The attack on Ii Naosuke is set for March 3rd. Including Seki Tetsunosuke, there are 17 samurai from Mito Domain who embark on their mission and a samurai from Satsuma domain, Jizaemon Arimura (Minosuke Bando). Their leader Magojiro Kaneko (Akira Emoto) forms their plan and instructs Seki Tetsunosuke to lead the others to carry out the plan.
On the day of the attack, Tetsunosuke and his party gather at Shinagawa Atagoyama and head for the Sakuradamon gate of Edo Castle for their attack. The battle begins ...

- Based on novel "Sakurada Mongai no Hen" by Akira Yoshimura.
- Filming took place in Mito, Ibaraki, Japan where a massive set built including a replica of the Sakuradamon gate of Edo Castle.
