Set around the luxury Penthouse Apartment with 100 floors.

Shim Su-Ryeon (Lee Ji-Ah) was born into wealth. She is now an elegant woman of the upper class and she is like the queen of the Penthouse Apartment. Her husband is Joo Dan-Tae (Uhm Ki-Joon). He is successful in business and real estate.

Cheon Seo-Jin (Kim So-Yeon) was born into a wealthy family. She is arrogant. Her husband is Ha Yoon-Cheol (Yoon Jong-Hoon). He is a chief surgeon at a general hospital and an ambitious man.

Oh Yoon-Hee (Eugene) comes from a poor family background. She works hard for her children's success. She wants to belong to the upper class for her children.

whyamiwatchingthis Jan 19 2021 6:47 am Day two of watching this, i became more frustrated with each character. I said before that there's only two character that I can stand and now one of them is already dead and one on the way to become crazy. I don't know how to continue watch this anymore but i just hope that Seola will come back to live and haunt every one of them. Even tho I kinda like Seola in this, I can't help to wish that she's a much more strong character that keep quiet but to bring everyone down behind the scene. But that's maybe because the drama I watched before this series which is My Mister have the character with the same background as Seola yet quick witted to work queitly behind the scene to bring down the people who have fault her. This drama really remind me of the old school korean drama that have suspense every minute. I prefer the flow of new dramas such as It's Okay To Not Be Okay, Sky Castle and The World Of Married but that's personal preference.

The only character that I can stand are only Suryeon and Seola. Idk wether the storyline or the acting make it seem so exaggerated. So far the story gives the same vibe as Sky Castle but Sky Castle is way more superior compared to this but im only on ep 3 soo let's see. Im gonna comment my journey watching this everyday so stay tuned.

Boim Jan 17 2021 11:12 am I watch this because of Kim So yeon. I love her acting since last year ever since I watch Beating Again and Mother of Mine as well as Happy Home. But despite being villain she is really pitiful...She craved for love from her father....her ex husband Yoon Chul who only leech her so hard for a position in Cheon Hospital and deceived by Dan Tae. She is smart but become stupid by love. All of the cast has memorable moments but as Seo Jin she has more than her main cast...the one that made me cannot believe was her piano madness...I watch in Viu Singapore the translation gosh even the director gor goosebump...me from scary and just wow because even hollywood actress I never saw an acting like her even in korea drama. Gosh she really deserve and Oscar if there is an Oscar in Korea probably Baeksang Award as best actress and Daesang SBS drama award in 2021. If she die in season 2 I definitely have no interest to watch....I am sorry I am just not interested in the character development of other character. There are no good people here....the writer actually made a clear point from the first time min seol A enter the hera palace it is just odd that she can deceive Seo Jin who is smart and always detail her age and appearance does not seem quite right but she can handle it...that made me a bit odd since when a 16 year old orphan have the ability and power to manipulate data....either she was intentionally was put as pawn...why is it she is very certain that her biological mother was in Hera palace and in Chung A from the beginning....who help her....and she contributed to her own death when she black mail seo jin and manipulate eun byeol trust not only once but twice. Anyway this plot is just odd. Seo jin is certainly creating her own little monster not because she hated Eun Byeol but because she does not know how to show affection. All she knows that like her eun byeol can strive like her. Yoon hee who made a stupid mistake and caused her own achievement. I mean why is she so mad being the second....It is just logical eventhough cannot be accepted that Seo Jin will be number 1 her family basically own the school as her father is the director. All I can say is that this woman is so obssesed with Seo Jin that she eventually become like her. Even after Su ryeon died I doubt that she will really have revenge for her. She is also spoiling to much of bae Rona. Gosh this mother duo is really a headache. If Seo jin and eun byeol competing each other with their pop out eyes then this two is always screaming and shouting. AS for Su ryeon not my favorit despite being nice and kind but she certainly is not a good mother. She is selfish when it comes to her own flesh and blood first with hye In and than Seol A revenge. She never even cared genuinely just obligated for the twins. SO it is just odd that she never knew the abused that the twins experience. She really is not a good mother only to her real one. She never cared about the twins. She never realize that she contributed to the death of Min Seol A. She thinks she is a good mother well she was never a good mother for the twins. She does not have a clue that a child in acting violently is because they were abuse. That is a simple psychology. I am not sure whether the writer create her as a bad mother despite being naive. She never even realize what happened for years what happen to twins. When min Seol A case happen all she can do is just blame the twins. Dan tae took it in a negative love she did the same thing. I can understand Seo jin is eventually a bad parent as well as Yoon Chul but Su ryeon I was hoping she will understand her step twins. She and Logan Lee is also just weird. Logan Lee where was he when Seol A was having a hard time. I mean he accepted her bone marrow....and the age of logan lee is not clear. I mean if he had waited for the suitable bone marrow and since birth than possibility he is supposed to be not even more than 30s probably 25 something at the most. So I really donot understand about this age. The bus trap is starting point that showed an adult like Su ryeon and Logan really is not better than the hera evil parents. Why have to trap those hera children they are still consider as minor or children so traping them and forced them to see how they torture these evil parents is just too much. I have to admit the acting is really good but morally it shows that there is none. Instead of going to the cops the two take it into their own hands then the cops. But seeing Seok Kyung tearing the books shows eventhough she misses the days with su ryeon she knows that she never loved them the moment she confessed that she was min seol A mother. I can understand why she will be more violent. Seok Kyung is the sensitive one among the twins. She is full of anger same like eun byeol but seok kyung is really in another level. She only have her twin brother so donot blame them if they are attached to each other. Unlike Eun Byeol who has no sibling at least the twins have each other. Jenny and Min hyuk were spoiled but they have a loving family. I was not surprise that seo jin succeed to be the next queen in the penthouse. This drama is not about good vs evil this is about desire so my guess the season 2 and 3 will be about who can control the situation and win the penthouse. The winner is the ace. Season 1 among the women...Seo Jin won since Su ryeon expose herself to Dan tae and it just make sense that the crazy Dan tae will kill Su ryeon. he used seo jin so what really happen to his wealth. Hye in is in america with logan. Will Seo Jin be still the next queen in season 2 or Yoon Hee since she is a double crosser....or will it be the woman with the butterfly tattoo....what will happen to the twins and eun byeol. Seok Kyung and Eun Byeol hated each other because Eun Byeol is smarter than seok kyung and she can actually beat her if she has confident. I hope eun byeol will meet a nice man and not involve with seok hoon. Just let seok hoon with bae ro na. I am really not interest to see seok hoon and eun byeol not because i am a fan of seok hon ro na ....i find this couple as creepy as Dan tae with all the Hera women. Will seok hoon be the next dan tae....he is also psychotic and violent.

1st season is full of injustice, during this season some characters are trying to fight injustice, but all their attempts fail in the end of this season. Some people question why Logan didn't know/didn't help Min Seol A. Watch carefully first season, Logan answered this question. I would not define Shim Su Ryeon as a bad mother, because she is not bad mother. She did mistakes like every parent does. Although she is not biological mother of twins, but she truly loves them and continues to love them and care about them and didn't want to leave them despite how cruel they behave. Of course having an ill child you are likely to fail to put proper attention to other kids. She acknowledges that and blames herself for all the mistakes and omissions in raising children. I would also not blame the Penthouse children, their parents did not raise them properly. The life will teach them lessons. At least at the end of this season some of the children start to realize their mistakes, which is already a progress.

Hope seasons 2 and 3 will not disappoint!

Ji Jan 16 2021 6:48 pm SPOILERS! I enjoy watching this drama and I like how Kim So Yeon potrayed her character. She's really a good actress.

But some things really got me thinking. For example, if Logan cares that much, how could he not know that Min Seola had been living in poverty that she had to falsified her docs to get illegal job? Speaking of which, how did she falsify her docs? Anyhow, Min Seola is an underaged orphan, how could Logan possibly think she could survive by herself in Korea?

I like that everybody has shown positive and negative side, and I feel bad for Shim Soryeon. Although she isn't really my favourite character as she's rather self centered and naive. She's been diligently seeking revenge for her dead daughter and been caring for her 'supposed' daughter in the hospital bed, but she isn't the mother of the year. She doesn't really care about the twin, absolutely clueless about the punishment system applied by her husband while it's been going on for a long time looking at how the twin react to it. The twin hate her but she doesn't show any effort to solve this matter even before Min Seola problem arises. And while she's good at planning a revenge against Joo Dante, she couldn't do just as discreetly when dealing about the second part of revenge. She keeps on telling O Yeonhee her plan of sending the murderer to jail even after knowing it's O Yeonhee. The woman has an underage daughter, how could she possibly think she'll be willing to go to jail? I hate it that she's dead, but it's not a surprise that she'd end up being murdered.

I'll watch the second season, really looking forward to seeing Kim Soyeon's acting.

Eun byul will play with her own mother.bcz she is aware of her mother that she killed her grandfather. Seokhoon was watching where maid were taking cash. so it could be possiblity that he will take revenge on his father for his mother. and ofc her sister will help Him.

and his another sister Will also come for her revenge ofc it's Hye in.

Ro na will proove that her mother is not culprit.

Now the story will be more interesting if they involve children in revenge... hehehe lol i want children to involve in this Revenge Game. and their master mind would be LOGAN.

aira Jan 06 2021 11:22 am Penthouse Drama is one of the best Korean dramas this year besides drama flower of evil, its okay not to be okay, Alice and Kairos. I started watching penthouse dramas because of the actors I used to watch their dramas like kim so yeon (all about eve), eugene (wonderful life & three dad one mum) and uhm ki joon (Phantom, Defendant). I started to like the plot of this drama and I never skip any episode of this drama after watching it. Eventhough I dont like its ending show all bad people won but I am satisfy with this ending. It give good lessons in journey of life from oh yoon hee's character. eugene, kim seo yeon,and lee ji ah are great actress. I think one of them or all of them will be nominated in the category of the best actress in Baeksang Art Awards along with other candidates such as seo ye jin (Its okay not to be okay) and moon chae won (flower evil). Other great actors this year such as kim hee sun (Alice), lee yu ri (lie of lie) and lee se young (kairos) also have potential too.

I think the golden era of Korean dramas around 2000. The main actors actresses of this era are very good acting and I like them back to being heroes and heroines in latest drama.

Mo Jan 06 2021 11:16 am Great twist and turns! The most dramatic Korean drama ever! It's similar to my favourite U.S. drama, ''Revenge''. Now this is what I call progress in Korean drama instead of the usual ''neat endings'', they leave you with a season cliffhanger to keep you hanging on! It seems that the usual K-drama viewers just want their usual happy endings. Might as well watch repeats of old dramas! Be patient for the series finale! That's where the real ending is! Until then, keep waiting!;-)

Dont ruin, influence and manipulate the minds of your audience...although it is just a story still makenyour story more valueable and inspiring to your viewers. In fairness to your actors they are all good...

The cast has been perfectly chosen and the acting skills of each character in this drama should be highly acknowledged. The success of this drama may indeed. be a combination of the actors and actresses superb acting as well as the amount of plot twists and cliff hangers which this drama had. I would definitely recommend this for those people who are open to experience a rollercoaster of emotions while cheering for the characters to take revenge over those who have done others poorly.

Also I cannot understand the criticism towards this drama? Why are so many ppl so salty about it? Appreciating the art, choice of actors, music and plot twists alone makes the drama so likable even though there may have been many sacrifices in terms of characters. But this is a part which makes the whole work of art so so interesting!

SPOILER ALERT: However, I also pity Shim Su-Ryeon and am very sad about the fact that she was murdered at the end. I still have some hope that maybe there is something we the viewers don't know that maybe she got a well done surgery and survived ㅠㅠ.... I am also not quite sure whether the scene with Oh Yoon Hee which we saw at the end was the truth? Maybe she had some hallucinations and dreamt of taking her life in front of Logan Lee? Who knows? This drama has so many unspoken and yet hidden scenes which we probably may not even imagine. Absolutely looking forward for S2, can't wait for what's yet to come in the Penthouse!

Lee Ji Ah, Eugene, and Kim So Yeon especially stole the show with their superb acting. This drama is unlike so many k-dramas and is truly one of a kind. The ending was not what I expected at all... how could they kill off the best character in the show!? This drama had me on the edge of my seat till the very end. I hope everyone watches it and supports the drama as well as the upcoming season. Can't Wait For S2!!!!

I'm not surprised b4 that Oh Yoon Hee is the killer of Seol A bcoz I expected that plot twist, but the death of Su Ryeon? Nah. It's like the drama went down the drain imo. I guess they rlly need to do that to make way and for the next "season" to be more interesting. But still,,, Su Ryeon is like the horseman of this drama. I am now wondering how the next season will run. They need an interesting character to take her place. Or is it Oh Yoon Hee? Hmm.

Poor Oh Yoon Hee, got fooled by Joo Dan Tae. She and Ro Na's character are annoying due to their attitudes. She don't deserve what they're experiencing because of the people at Hera Palace. The murder was clearly a set up. She didn't kill Su Ryeon and only admit to the crime out of guilt.

But come to think of it, all of that won't happen only if they weren't too ambitious. She even sided with Joo Dan Tae which is a snakey thing to do knowing what he did to your friend. Good thing for her she didn't tell him that she killed Seol A 'cause it will be a big thing for the case against her.

P.S. Choi Ye Bin is so good at acting. She deserves an award for playing Ha Eun Byeol.

Shim Su-Ryeon was murdered, in episode 21 preview you can see Ih Yoon-Hee admitted to murdering her even though she did not and was accused as she was the one who found Shim Su-Ryeon laying on the floor. I feel like it was the maid because she was the one who lured Su-Ryeon into Joo Dan Tae’s room telling her that the kids are there. When Su-Ryeon entered the house, the maid wasn’t there. How would the maid know that the kids were the if she was ‘grocery shopping’. I think the reason why she killed Su-Ryeon was because the she was the real mother of the twins, that’s why you can see in episode 18-19 you can see Joo Dan Tae forcing her to leave the house be she couldn’t because she didn’t leave want to leave her kids and ‘her house’ because she’s the one who is suppose to be in Su-Ryeon’s position as penthouse owner since she was the real mother of the twins and she was the lover of Joo Dan Tae. She maybe stabbed her because she thought that Su-Ryeon take everything away from her.

People are not hating on Rona based off how she's the daughter of Yoonhee but rather of her actions that she still hasn't realized or apologized for. Yes, she's incredibly amazing for not following the footsteps of the other kids who were taking part in bullying, but she still made mistakes that I was anticipating for her to apologize for. There's no strong closure that pointed out those mistakes when she was crying with her mom on that one episode. That's really all I want from her because I do find her as a good character. Ha Eun-Byeol - she was given a big burden from her mum to deliver the best result. That brings out the monstrous within her. Actually she is kinda pitiful.. I think she will be dead in the next episode, as the fortune teller mentioned that someone will die. Joo Seok-Hoon & Joo Seok-Kyung were abused by the father whenever they cant deliver good result.. Bae-Ro-Na on the other hand, over confident of herself. Thinking that she has great talent. When she was disqualified from the entry, she was disappointed and doesnt want to live anymore. funny thing is, she wasnt ashamed of vandalism (she broke the stuff at the school, lay down on the floor just to make sure that seojin will attend to her etc etc), being bullied but she was shameful about her mum's scandal.

I just said that you can't confuse the bad person that Yoon Hee is and blame RoNa justifying the facts of being a mother and daughter and not liking the character. And we can clearly see that Ro Na also has qualities that have always been different from other children, always had their own merit at school and never practiced bullying which already leaves her with a lot of positive points in relation to other children. You don't need to like RoNa to realize such things, but for you it's so difficult to notice the good things in something that you didn't even notice it?

And it is also clear that in this drama the children are the parents' replicas and that way the audience can easily misinterpret how you did it yourself. Despite knowing that she's in the wrong here, she doesn't only not repent, but made things worse by trying to cover her tracks and betray her best friend - the friend that got her into Hera Palace in the first place. Not only that, she used the fact that Shim Su Ryeon as an excuse to seduce SR's husband. It's one thing to make a mistake and it's another thing to backstab someone just to cover your tracks.

Also, in this episode, initially I felt quite bad for the other parents who weren't really involved in Min Seol Ah's death (besides Joo Dan Tae and Cheon Seo Jin of course), but knowing that they were going to go against Shim Su Ryeon by saying that they were pressured to make a confession, really changed my impression of them.

In episode 19, why does Su Ryeon have to reveal her face to her enemies (this just puts her in a more dangerous situation, which Logan had to risk saving her). I can’t believe people wants Yoon Hee (Ro Na’s mother) to turn back into her old kind self - She’s the killer of Seol Ah. I just want everyone (including those bratty kids) who hurt Seol Ah to get what they deserve. I hope season 2 and 3 does not centre on those children, and wish the actress of Seol Ah could come back as another character, she acts well and her voice is really adorable.

It's not like the drama is successful and they are dragging the drama out of ambition. In my opinion I don't think it is forced, but rather pretentious and now it gets more complicated because the public thinks it is something forced by the path of the plot and from the moment that not everyone knows the initial information.

And Dr ha is the one who send soojin the video of the night where her father died, he will threaten her and he will have the upper hand on her actions. In my opinion i think that this is the best ending because the writer will leave many suspicious events to solve. on the contrary i think that the actors nailed and slayed their characters, i see that everyone is complaining about their acting but c'mon they have to act that way because that's the nature of the real characters they must be arrogant. and i'm looking forward to jo dan tae past and how he became such a self-arrogant person. lastly i think that this drama is very realistic in her plot, and the writer presented the real life of people who will do anything to get what they want.

The only think I will make a remark about is the constant screaming, every single line these women have is screamed out. They never talk normal, they drag people withouth any real reason and when its time to explain why they drag, they will scream more. Director, I have one request. Please let them talk, this screaming every single time they talk takes away the affect it has on me. It's nothing special anymore

The plot is good, i cant say it's great but it's good for sure.

Yoon-Hee was at the scene, but I believe her did not try to kill Anne, but to save her and just held the tennis shoes (Anne's foot is in with sock when it crosses the glass). It is very disappointing to see Yoon-Hee become a villain because she thinks she is a murderer, I liked her a lot but if she joins with Joo Dan-Tae she loses total credibility. it will be just another meaningless evil woman

They are trying too hard to not be sky castle that they looked like a knockoff wannabe of sky castle. I skipped ahead thinking it was going to get better and it is still boring. I gave up on it but I have been looking at clips to see if it will get better but it isn't. I saw the "twist" and it was lame and again boring. The acting in some is just terrible. They are overacting to the point where they look untalented. I have seen most of these actors in other works and they can do better acting than this. I do not recommend this one.

I really tried to like it but I can't. I think that the writing was bad and the actors really have not gotten their characters right. I think that this could have potentially been good if the writers spent more time on writing it and coming up with new ideas.

Just Watch It Already! the acting is absolutely phenomenal, especially when you get to watch the behind the scenes clips... its just amazing how great they are at playing these roles.. its like each one was made for them. for those watching,, i recommend watching some of the cutscenes on youtube! you can find them under 'The Penthouse Special' from the channel SBS Now!!! that way you can actually see some of the character's developments (esp. if you're a bae rona x seokhun shipper) :DDD

Yang Mi-Ok revealed to the twin that she is the biological mum 4. I doubt they will be kept behind bars. Most death cases in Korea are concluded as suicide. Sometimes makes me wonder if the korean police officer are actually working. 5. Ha Eun-Byeol and her dad happily settle down in her dad's hometown. 6. Cheon Seo-Jin dream of Cheong A foundation were tarnished, return to the sister when the will of her dad was found etc.

The drama is unreal because it is makjang, just try to know more about the genre and at the beginning of each chapter there is always a message saying that it is a fictional drama and that is why it is impossible to report the drama to reality. The actors are wonderful and the writer is amazing here. The drama also frustrates me sometimes, but I get the best out of each episode.

He can master a different Korean dialect but his character can't speak proper Korean to the adult characters? Stupid.

Not to mention, he's this bigshot tycoon in the story, but at no point, did he think to help out Seol-ah even if she insisted not to? That's the most convenient plot excuse EVER. Please kill off this character!

The whole thing is basically just the writers adding stressors after stressors, as unrealistic and unpractical as they can be to make sure viewers stay watching. It’s like a bad addiction - you’re just waiting to be satisfied by those scenes where protagonists get revenge. Everything else is just a frustrating mess.

I recognized the writer's style of writing since I also watched her previous works like Empress dignity/The Last Empress and Temptation of Wife. Both of them are great but, I like The Penthouse more because its faster and shorter than the other dramas. I hope that one or two characters would be memorable as well like Min Sohee from Temptation of Wife. The writer now how to push the actors's potential I think.

Ha back in their school days and if seokhoon really wants to pursue her atleast we'll get a clear picture that he is not merely ordered by his sister to do so. Although the preview shows that rona is quitting the school but whatever happens if she were to become min seola 2.0 then seola has a rich mother and adoptive brother but rona has nobody except her mother who herself is being used by others.

I feel like this drama is dragging the plot (which I understand cos there has to be 16/20 episodes per season). - Also, Logan Lee and Su Ryeon just need to have a talk, I think Logan is just being brain-dead & kind of ruining Su Ryeon's plans (his revenge bit for Min Seol A is good, the rest of it I'm just like what are you doing?), he just came out of no where and doesn't even know what actually occurred, all he knows is the audio recordings, the calls, the real mum & that she died at Hera Palace, nothing else. - Dr Ha needs to do something about his wife & daughter, all they do is just get angry and shout at each other, which is absolutely childish behaviour.

this is just a rant about what I did not enjoy the plot, but there are still several episodes to go, so anything can change. plus I am not saying that the drama is bad - this is probably my favourite kdrama of the year.

Was this inspired by the nut rage incident? I feel people who already a bazillion dollars won’t care if their kids do anything. What is with the posturing? They will just end up abroad anyway and don’t have to earn a cent. Let the rich send their kids to private school only in Korea. Why would anyone else want to be around them? I’d like myth busters to challenging that scene in the beginning with an angel. If parents in Korea got home earlier enough to watch dramas like this they would pull their kids from hagwon and want them live an ordinary life. Gosh.

Anyway, this drama is way better without a romance of these brats, esp. ro na and seok hoon. The story is already better with the adults main casts.

Go hoo-dong I think is the same person as Rogan Lee which made me think that Seol-a knows from the get-go that Su-ryeon is her biological mother thus, approaching her with a motive by tutoring the twins. Too bad though that she was not able to tell hoo-dong that her mom is a good person before her death. And what's the ship between Ro-na and Seok-hoon??? they are high schoolers there's no need for that. Seok-hoon opening up and developing friendship with Rona is better i guess. bringing those teenagers together thru friendship and realizing their mistake and atone for it is a better ending. But I sincerely think the ending would be very bad for eun-byul. She would either lost her mind and be in asylum with her mom seo-jin blaming herself for everything. That's her worst ending.

I already trusted that the writer would cause great emotions, as well as another drama I watch from her, but in The Penthouse I see the same way of writing, but in a more mature and better way. But I don't like the sad face of the villains because I don't think it's right to feel sorry for bad people. But that was something I expected. But, I see that the writer, director and the cast are doing a great job and deserve all the recognition that the audience is having regarding the drama. The Penthouse is not a sophisticated drama, but it is a quality drama and has many merits for the attention it is receiving.

Yoon Hee always has to beg Ro Na to accept things and it doesn't always work. Many people are futile and selfish and when they are rich they are even worse and Bae Ro Na will be no different.

After her owner's death, she stayed around the building and helped Su Ryeon find the watch, but no one stayed with her. She was sick and would need surgery. Anne fought hard to keep Sugar healthy and I'm sad that it didn't work. I hope she stays with Anne's brother or someone who can take good care of her.

One thing that caught my attention was Cheon Seo-Jin saying it was the first time I heard someone say that he loves her, lol. This drama become more complicated since too many character have their own secret. Not sure when it will reveal.

There was no justice until the very end, and It might not be the best, but it can still be a purpose for a drama to be made. Dramatic stories. I don't have a favorite character in the drama anymore when I used to feel bad for Ro Na, Yoon Hee and Su Ryeon. I can totally see they're going to be like Ji Sun Woo, Kim Hee Ae character in TWOTM. And I believe that in a 20-chapter drama it would be impossible for the writer to tell the mystery as easily as only in Chapter 7.

Anne, unfortunately, really died because she fell from a very high height and her body was touched and changed many times. An autopsy was done on her body and her mother, Su Ryon, did her funeral and made a necklace out of Anne's ashes. And, anyway, everyone involved in the treatment of Anne's life and death is to blame for what happened to her.

But I think, like another drama I watched from the same writer, I think she can justify that it was just an accident and that everyone was unharmed, but that all of Su Ryeon's anger and revenge for Anne's death would be totally unfair and meaningless. Nor does it make sense to show the worst side of the human being and then with small good deeds that are totally false to invalidate all the bad things they have done.

I will not be impressed by this falsehood, since from the beginning they abused power and people without any regret. I love drama and I have always defended it, but if it continues like that, unfortunately I will have to stop watching because even if it is an unreal drama I want justice and because I cannot stand stories that romanticize and normalize disgusting and cruel people without any punishment.

I want this drama to still have value for me to keep watching

But Ro Na's reaction to learning that he won the school seat was totally indifferent. Even though she didn't know it was murder instead of suicide, she could be a little sad.

And another thing that caught me was the fact that Ro Na said she didn't fight with Jennie because she has a powerful family, but with Anne the story changes a lot because Anne was a very poor orphan and she had no one to protect her . Ro Na was in the waiting line and it was impossible for her to be accepted and very difficult for her to take down one of the wealthy teenagers, but with Anne it was very easy, even though she had the first place.

Ro Na is a very dreamy and strong girl, but she is also selfish. She is a very intense person. Or she has what she wants or the rest doesn't matter. That way, she could have acted extremely and killed a person to get what she wants. And he acts rudely with her mother, who does everything for her.

My theory may be exaggerated, but as I am in the vibe of drama, I believe that this fact would be very interesting, because on the one hand we have a rich majority that is super cruel and disgusting and on the other hand we have a minority that is poor and dreamy and a big turnaround if they became equal. As much as I agree that there aren't many likeable characters here (specifically the children), I don't understand why some people expect this obviously unrealistic and exaggerated drama to teach some valuable life/moral lessons. Unless they have ever marketed Penthouse as some socially woke drama before, then this drama does its job right. I personally think this drama fits the need for some mindless entertainment. Penthouse is just that typical full length TV dramas squeezed into just 20 episodes with better cinematography. Lower your expectations, remove that Sky Castle imagery from your head, and you'll able to enjoy this drama just fine.

Anyway I think this drama wants to show us that some good characters also showing their ambitious and stubborn sides of them. Suryeon and Yeonhee also made mistakes as a parent. I'm really annoyed with all the teenagers even Rona is really stubborn but that's how because they're really competitive. Seol-a might dead but she was so smart, I bet she knew more than she should have. Well I'm really excited to see the next episode!

Anna Lee Nov 11 2020 12:18 pm In my opinion, I appreciate the writer who came up with an idea of highlighting some rich people who abuse power. It's a realistic topic. I also highly appreciate ALL of the actresses and actors in the drama. No one makes me uncomfortable with their acting. Especially Kim So Yeon, I was head over heels for her before this but I questioned myself "Is the girl in penthouse really her?" Because her acting is unbelievable (in a good way). But I don't like that they ignore technical things (CCTV, School Comitee Witch Hunt) in childish way. I know some people said the drama focuses on making people feel irritated, so that kind of detail isn't important. But I have seen some movies/dramas that did fine with smart tricks to cover technical holes. I think they could have avoided the hate if they cover the things better, I find other plots in the drama believable Everything is perfect (how the corrupt principal will decide anything that gives him money, hera palace have that much authority to abuse power, etc), except those that I have mentioned above.

But, because it's a slow burn story I might just continue watching it after it gets to middle part and it's really makjang but because I don't watch kdrama that really focused on romance anymore. This kdrama will do, I just hope it will have a good turnover soon or the murderer would be really shocking and unexpected.

I don't know why some people say it is an unreal drama when we see the same thing in another drama; evil is evil, regardless of anything.

Of course, we don't like to imagine it being real, I am ashamed and disgusted when I see the president of my country being the worst person for to represent; but nobody has the power to represent several people, not even this drama.

In Penthouse, evil is served as a banquet, so much so that it makes me wonder if I keep watching. I continue because I want to see justice, even if it is unreal.

But we cannot say that there is only evil, but also sadness, madness, ambition, revenge, regret, and there is an incredibly talented girl with a mother who had her dream ripped from her hands and her beautiful voice was torn as if it were nothing. There is also a woman who had her daughter killed and humiliated by people around her.

Life is no different, obviously it is not about being rich or not, but have you ever wondered if this evil of Penthouse is a reality and you keep your eyes closed?

People can simply check someone throat when they vomit blood. Yoon He should handle everything with professionalism not by screaming and kicking. I know this drama is about classical music but you don't need to scream all the time. Just slapped people with your brain. I'll keep watching to know whether the character become more intelligent or simply doing revenge with empty brain.

I cant enter prestigious university not because Im not good enough but because im poor and have no internal connections. I met university colleagues grades far lower than me but managed to get governmnet job or highly paid job in companies because their parents are rich and influenced. I met cruel manager in my first job who doesnt know meaning of humanity. I have work colleagues who barely do any task at workplace but get the praises for my hard work. And many more

To much going in early episodes and 90% of it doesnt make sense. how is the open murder that everyone couldve seen, caught on CCTV hidden like that? that everyone can see, in a 10th floor top security penthouse with CCTV yet only people that saw it and got rid of it were the evils one? How did no one notice?? Made me laugh how stupid this was. Trying to hard. And they got back in time for their party in under 10min and laughed it off. That. Was. So. Dumb. Unrealistoc. Its so dumb but u wanna keep going just to see if it actually has scene that make sense loool

Its gonna be popular cause this drama just makes u mad. Anger. But thats what keeps the viewer keep going. The nonsensical.

Bear Nov 09 2020 7:35 am Anyone watching the drama just needs to be smart enough to see that, at Penthouse, the story doesn't positively empower villains. On the contrary, it shows how disgusting and scary they are. It doesn't even define that all the rich are bad. One example is Su Ryeon, who is rich and not a bad person. Anyone can understand very well that the drama is focused on extremely rich people who are selfish and use power to destroy people and get what they want. The problem is not with the characters or the drama, but with people who don't know how to interpret what is right and what is wrong. And I also believe that the exaggerated and unreal drama cannot affect teenagers and the rest of the audience. Mainly because fiction doesn't have that power, but reality does and that's what I would worry about.

@commenter below mocking people for not liking the drama. I think people are free to say if the drama is to their taste or not. It’s an open platform to comment. The writer obviously made the characters so vicious to provoke the emotions of its audience. Personally I laughed while watching this because it’s very stereotypical and expected. Of course some people are mad because of how evil the characters are so stop attacking them for it. That’s obviously what the writer wanted to help promote the drama and give it its high rating or whatever. I’m out anyways. It’s hilariously not my taste.

If you're looking for a drama that is for an adult that is about social injustices and prejudices, you should give it a try. The actors are brilliant, they did well. Some of the characters might get into your nerves but the plot twist is to look forward to, that's one thing that would keep you up with this drama.

I have a feeling they’ll give us a sad background for Seo-Jin to justify her being cruel. Yes some rich Koreans behave like penthouse, just some years ago, a chaebol got in trouble for nutgate and etc. It’s a normal occurrence of a country build on lookism & social hierarchies.

The drama is intense, the acting is IMPECCABLE and no one is forced to watch. Is someone compelling you?

With only 15% of ratings in 4 episode, it is very difficult to agree that this drama is bad. Because if so, I can say that any drama that broke a record is just pretentious.

The funny thing is to hear from people who do not live in South Korea say that it is not realistic. Honey, the people there are extremely prejudiced and futile, so if they are rich they become much worse than they think. It is obvious that there are exceptions and we have 4 episodes of 44 (with two seasons), some good people will appear.

But, nah, there is something off with Penthouse that make me go ???? in every scenes. Probably because of the confusing plot, inconsistent pace and bad acting. The acting is really bad to the point im not sure how to feel toward the plot. It does look promising but it takes away the exciting or the good impression because of the story flow and actors. Too bad that the cinematic is really good, really potrays the richs

Bear Nov 08 2020 4:00 am Well, I think that being good or bad depends on each person, and not because they are rich or poor, and it does not depend on the city, state or country that the person was born. Mainly because bad things happen everywhere. In Penthouse the characters are radical and the situations are extreme because the writer likes to provoke strong emotions and is a world of fiction. There is no way to relate most things to reality. But, in part, I see some real elements: those rich who always use their power to get what they want, always hurting people, committing crimes and escaping unharmed. But for the poor, life and laws are things that work differently. While the poor are people who can actually have a job and a place to sleep (with exceptions, of course), but for the rich population, they are people who cannot dream big things even more about something that the poor cannot enjoy because these things do not belong to your social class. The drama has been great for me. I see reality in the work of the actors and in the way I feel the emotions. Anyway, I believe that these are easy questions for the public to think and solve, it is just a form of interpretation.

The fact each charater is immoral and it gets worse each ep. By the time revenge come near the end, i honestly would already be fed up. It is kind of misleading because most were hooked on the first big scene in episode 1. We see Anna Lee being pushed off the balcony to her death, however, most of the story focuses on characters we don't care as much about. Adding the contrast with the lower class was somewhat smart, it separated this drama from just filthy rich to a mother's love for her children.

Quite frankly, there isn't a motive behind some characters. Some are semi-redeemable rich people like Lee Kyu-Jin, who isn't necessarily as corrupt as he is childish. However, the male characters are harder to understand, which I get is the point.

The acting is amazing though. I hate all the rich people which I assume was the intention. The affair seems realistic enough that my blood boils. However, I understand that the plot and setting aren't realistic. I wish the protagonists were more strong-willed, like Eugene!

Overall, is it realistic? No. Is it the best plot ever? No. Could one argue that this drama is very bad? Of course. Do I like it? For now yeah, the hate I have for these characters is very real and that means I connected it to something.

I praised her not because she has been writing for a long time, but because she has a talent. And after 3 episodes the result was not so good, I'm still not a fan. The concern I have with this particular drama is not really the violence itself, but the excessive choice to use it to shock and increase ratings, without any real need. The scenario is mediocre, in the same vein as his sister TLE. It's pure Makjang, so don't expect a script class or complicated characters. Here is the Manichean and childish vision of a world; people are either bad or kind and naive; no grey zone... For those who compare this to Sky Castle, I feel like saying it's far too flattering for this drama.

Yes life is unfair, but people in real life are still human being and you cannot find such kind of person in real world. If this is like Sky Castle, then they should exceed my expectations. Are the characters really that evil? Because in Sky Castle, some may be evil like Yum Jung Ah's character but at some point, I was able to understand her. I hope it's the same with this drama.

Where in the world children were allowed to treat their peers like that? Where in the world that people treat people like that? I know they are ultra rich people and I see obnoxious people in real life. But is this how people really act? I think all the actors was great that’s why I was able to hate this drama so much. It is not an easy drama to watch. Everyone of them was shouting and the sounds of symphony were even make me more angry with the drama. I would say it still holds is own ground. We have only seen two introductory episodes so far, I'm willing to see where they will take this.

I really don't like the heavy bullying and all the shitty characters, but that makes this an interesting drama to watch. I'm willing to see where all their shityness wil eventually take them to.

Looking forward to see what will happen with Su Ryeon and Tutor girl. I like them. Although it does seem like they will make them mom and daughter and they probably will kill Tutor girl off :'(

Why can't normal people just explain and listen to each other rationally in a civilized manner? Why do kids possess so much jealousy and always wanted to frame others to gain benefits for themselves. Maybe it is just the screenwriter, taking for granted that viewers will never get tired of their repetitive plot.

sensible viewer Oct 29 2020 9:48 pm also i had thot the girl who falls down was bo ra but after watching episode2 i realize she is tutor girl. i really hope she doesnt die shes only watchable character thus far , as in decent one if she dies this drama is a dud. some people were guessing she could still be alive but she falls from 100 floor how can she survive that falls. i wish that was a dream or imagination sequence not reality. Also classical singing is sounding very funny.

Reed Oct 29 2020 1:23 am Sorry but hell nope. The characters are too evil, especially the kids. Of course I knew the annoying Hyun Soo wasn’t going to be accepted. But somehow she’s still going to get into the school. I have a feeling Seol A is Su Ryeong’s real daughter which her husband somehow managed to send to an orphanage and replaced with the fake sick child. (Just my guess). Anyway there’s no decent character in this drama. Don’t see how they plan on Justifying anyone’s character because I find it hard to sympathize with any of them. Since they already showed us that the only decent character will be killed off I lost interest. I refuse to go through another sky castle feels. (The characters here are even worst than skycastle).

Married or Sky Castle but to be fair isn't all dramas bit similar... recently for example time travel, etc. But it doesn't mean it worser, good entertainment and little bit louder if compaired to those previous ones, it has potential ;)

But honestly really hate how the tutor is always being timid and soft. Cannot even stand up for herself and even speak up for herself. I didn't watch any of sky castle like people have always said this drama has the same vibes, so maybe this has getting me hooked because it is first time I like to watch this intense drama kind of thing. Usually I go for super fluffy romance thingy. But like it overall. I just wish there are some feisty and brave turnout character development from he timid and soft character.

However, watching this rehashed, convoluted storyline gave me a headache. I will either pass on this drama entirely or just watch the last episode to see what happens to these actresses' characters. May their next dramas be the blessings this one is not.

Wait Lee sang woo's wife in real life and in drama. Eugene and Lee sang woo acted together in All about my mom drama and Kim so yeon and Eugene's husband acted together in Mother of mine although they did not have much scenes together. Now the two wives meet in this drama. How wonderful. I love Kim so yeon alot. Fighting Penthouse team. Hope this drama will be a big hit drama at the end of 2020.
