Plot

In post-war Japan, a fortune teller has found an abandoned boy in the streets and bring him back to his tenement, but nobody wants to take care of the child for even one night. He thinks that the widowed Otane would be the best person to take care of this homeless boy. However, Otane is reluctant to take care of him. Finally, the boy manages to crack open her hard shells. When the boy runs away in fear of punishment for wetting his bed, she goes on a frantic search.
