The day of an athletic meeting at the kindergarten. In the 2-person-3-leg game, Mi Youn and Sang Tae, Ae Kyung and Dong Kyu, and Soo Mi and Bong Sup line up on the starting line. With a starting signal, the town's best couple, Ae Kyung and Dong Kyu, take the lead, while Soo Mi tries to carry Bong Sup on her back, worrying about his slow pace. Sang Tae and Mi Youn fall down when their feet tangle. At lunch time, when Ae Kyung opens her lunch basket, her lunch gets the most attention since she is famous for her cooking skills. Sang Tae annoys Mi Youn when he says that the food looks like it has just come out of a cooking magazine.
During a surprise discount time at a department store, while wrangling with other women to grab some cheap items, Mi Youn fails to win anything as she lacks physical and mental energy. Depressed, Mi Youn goes window-shopping, and is impressed by a fantastic one-piece. She looks pretty in it, but she can't buy it because it costs as much as her monthly living expenses. However, the sales clerk continuously insists that she can make an installment purchase. At this moment, she comes across her first love, Jung Woo. Embarrassed, she impulsively buys the dress in a lump sum.
Mi Youn and Jung Woo are at a coffee shop in the department store with a market basket next to them. He is no longer the boorish student he used to be 8 years ago. She feels somewhat strange about Jung Woo, who has transformed into a cool single man. Shocked by Jung Woo's looks, Mi Youn gives a deep sigh thinking she has become too old.
Mi Youn is caught in a fender bender, and calls Sang Tae, but since he is in a meeting, he turns off his cell phone. Helpless, she fumbles with Jung Woo's name card and calls him. He sets her at ease, wisely copes with the accident, and relieves her. She promises to treat him later, and heads towards a residential complex in the suburbs where he works...

Mi Youn is stunned to hit upon Ae Kyung, the lady next door, in the elevator of a hotel. Ae Kyung is also shocked to see Mi Youn there, but she soon calms down and leaves the hotel with a man. By contrast, Mi Youn shudders and barely gets on the car. At home, Mi Youn is afraid that Ae Kyung may gossip that she saw Mi Youn at a hotel.
She's anxious all day long, and studies her husband Sung Tae's face when he returns home. As usual, he has dinner with her but his mind is elsewhere. Mi Youn gives a sigh of relief, but when he asks why she didn't answer the cell phone, she realizes that she has left her phone in the hotel, which startled her. Ae Kyung comes to Mi Youn, who is impatient. Ae Kyung bluntly asks "a beginner?" When Mi Youn is embarrassed, Ae Kyung tells her to keep everything secret no matter what.

When Yoo Jung shows up where Sang Tae's family is dining out, bewildered Sang Tae tells her to leave. Mi Youn, not knowing the relationship between the two, tells her to stay, but Sang Tae remains silent. Later on, he says that he has to go see his friends, but heads towards Yoo Jung's art studio. Sang Tae, who has been going to Yoo Jung's place to please her, carrying fried chicken, is caught by Ae Kyung who happens to be passing by.
Recalling the days when Mi Youn was a fresh, young girl, Jung Woo hangs around outside Mi Youn's house. Also thinking of Jung Woo, Mi Youn brings him newly cooked Kimchi. After looking around Jung Woo's workplace, she envies him and his successful career. He encourages her, complaining about housewives' hardships, saying that it's not late to start a new thing. After she sees a recruitment ad for a cosmetics company, she consults her husband about applying for it, but he only rails at her. Mi Youn and Jung Woo go paragliding, and Mi Youn restores her self-respect while flying in the air. She restores her smile and energy with the help of Jung Woo. Observing Mi Youn, Ae Kyung gives a piece of advice to her. Mi Youn gradually comes to fear Ae Kyung, who is an amiable wife before her husband but also a dating expert. After all, Mi Youn starts a new life as a beauty planner, but despite her efforts, she fails to improve her performance. However, Jung Woo and her colleagues make her realize that only when she cares for herself will others care for her...

Having submitted her resignation a week in advance, Mi Youn relieves her stress by drinking beer with Sang Tae. Drunk as a fiddler, she falls asleep, and is startled when she sees her swollen face the next morning. She spends a busy morning seeing Sang Tae and Na Young off, and she calls Jung Woo to ask if he's okay. After listening to Jung Woo's ailing voice through the phone, she rushes to his house.
He is impressed by Mi Youn who has cooked and brought gruel for him He hugs her and tells her that he is becoming more and more selfish. She retreats and tells him that it that is so; she can't see him any more. He feels sad.
Meanwhile, Ae Kyung sees middle-schoolers annoying Keum Dong, Soo Mi's son, and knocks them down. Soo Mi and Bong Sup, who have come to the site belatedly, are surprised to see a modest woman like Ae Kyung striking middle-schoolers down. Word soon spreads across the neighborhood, and the fact that she was once a violent, problem child in the past stuns many people once again. Mi Youn says that she knows the secret of winning, and takes Jung Woo to a sauna. Sang Tae and Yoo Jung by chance go to the same sauna, and when they spot Mi Youn, they run away. Jung Woo suggests to Mi Youn that she work for his company, and gives her a bouquet for her birthday...

Mi Youn's self-respect improves as she starts working for Jung Woo's company. While at work, Mi Youn comes across Ae Kyung, who has visited the company to discuss investment and pension. Ae Kyung realizes right away that Jung Woo is Mi Youn's first love when she gets embarrassed. When attractive Ae Kyung has an intimate chat with Jung Woo, Mi Youn frets. When she hears that the two are going on a business trip to Jeju Island, Mi Youn feels hostile towards Ae Kyung. Mi Youn insists that Ae Kyung cancel the trip immediately, but she sneers. At last she asks Jung Woo to cancel it, but he embarrasses her, saying it's nothing more than a business trip.
Meanwhile, Bong Sup goes to a job interview for the first time in 8 years, but on the day of the interview, he wrangles with Dong Kyu, Ae Kyung's husband. Bong Sup gets a bruise on his face and Soo Mi explodes. Helplessly walking out of the room where the job interview took place, Bong Sup meets Dong Kyu in the same row, and realizes that he's also jobless. The two get rid of stress by drinking.
On the day of Jung Woo and Ae Kyung's business trip to Jeju Island, Mi Youn shows up at the airport carrying Ae Kyung's high school yearbook. Ae Kyung is startled when she learns that Mi Youn has had several plastic surgery operations and was once a violent, problem child at school. Finally, Mi Youn, Jung Woo, and Ae Kyung leave for Jeju Island together. Though Mi Youn is happy that she can take advantage of Ae Kyung's weak points, Ae Kyung, who has even brought bikinis, tries to seduce Jung Woo. However, thanks to Mi Youn's wits, Ae Kyung's plans are foiled.
Taking Mi Youn and Ae Kyung home after coming back from Jeju Island, Jung Woo hits upon Sang Tae, Dong Kyu and Bong Sup. Bong Sup recognizes Jung Woo, his inferior in the military, and hugs him. Jung Woo feels uncomfortable about Mi Youn's husband, Sang Tae, when he is with Dong Kyu, Sang Tae, and Bong Sup...

Jung Woo's father and sister mistake Mi Youn for Jung Woo's girlfriend, and urge Jung Woo to immediately set the date for marriage. Mi Youn, taken aback, resists, but Jung Woo asks her to marry him, saying that he has never stopped thinking about her. Mi Youn feels confused when Jung Woo touchingly tells her that now that he has become financially stable, he can give her all his love and pleasure. In spite of Mi Youn's cold response, he is determined to marry her.
When Ae Kyung learns that Jung Woo has proposed to Mi Youn, Ae Kyung advises her to leave him. However, Mi Youn is still confused when she remembers his promise to make her happy forever. Mi Youn even writes the resignation to quit her job, since she is overwhelmed by his fascinating proposal. After expressing his feelings towards her again, he asks Mi Youn to make her decision before he returns from his business trip.
Sang Tae and Yoo Jung go to the movies together and enjoy a long drive. The couple show off their love by serving each other Ramen. Mi Youn, who has forgotten to give Yoo Jung the tuition fee, visits Yoo Jung's art studio...

Upon seeing Yoo Jung, Mi Youn feels greatly betrayed by Sang Tae. Sang Tae, frightened since his affair has been disclosed, decides to break up with Yoo Jung, and apologizes to Mi Youn, kneeling down. However, Mi Youn explodes and says that Yoo Jung has begged her to divorce him and that Sang Tae is insane.
When Mi Youn meets with Jung Woo at Ae Kyung's store, she ignores him. He is worried about what has happened to Mi Youn, and anguished over his affection for Mi Youn. He goes to Mi Youn's place and asks Ae Kyung what is wrong with Mi Youn, but receives no clear answer. Bong Sup is worried about Eun Sook's whereabouts when he doesn’t see her at the store, and after tracing rumors, he learns that she is in a hospital. He visits the hospital and promises her that he will cook rice gruel for her. Soo Mi, suspicious of Bong Sup, calls him. Bewildered, Bong Sup makes up the excuse that he's looking for a job with the help of Jung Woo, and Soo Mi is buoyant with expectations.
Sang Tae, who has told Mi Youn that he would break up with Yoo Jung, is fidgety when he gets a phone call from Yoo Jung that she has been in a car accident. Mi Youn yells at him that if he leaves now, it will be the end of their marriage, but he goes to Yoo Jung anyway, saying he's sorry. Mi Youn tells Sang Tae, who has returned home, it's over, and runs away from home...

Mi Youn goes to Jung Woo's place and breaks into tears before him. When he learns that Sang Tae has had an affair, he gets mad and says he will never forgive Sang Tae. When Jung Woo insists that Mi Youn go with him to Sang Tae, she tries to stop him. Jung Woo takes her to a place where they can see the sunrise to console her, and tells her not to forget the fact that a new sun can always rise...
Jung Woo takes her home and encourages her by saying that he will always be with her. Bong Sup, who happens to be passing by, witnesses Jung Woo and Mi Youn, and is shocked. Recollecting the recent past while nursing Eun Sook, Bong Sup realizes Mi Youn's relationship with Jung Woo. Eun Sook, watching Bong Sup, smiles bitterly and says that she wants to live with a compatible man on a farm if there is one. Bong Sup imagines living with Eun Sook...
Yoo Jung packs a lunch for Sang Tae, who has skipped breakfast. She also gives her own socks to him, and he's impressed. Still, Sang Tae can't think of divorce, and buys a pack of pork hocks for Mi Youn. She loses her temper when she realizes that he is wearing the socks that Mi Youn gave Yoo Jung for a gift, and screams that she wants a divorce while beating him up.
Driven out of the house, Sang Tae breaks into tears and says that he can't divorce Mi Youn because he loves both Mi Youn and Yoo Jung.
Ae Kyung finds a letter and rushes to Dong Kyu's workplace. She is confused when the door is closed. She calls him, but he turns off his cell phone.

The apartment residents gather when a man commits suicide by jumping off the roof, and they investigate who the man is. Mi Youn, Soo Mi, and Ae Kyung are anxious, but when they confirm that the man is not one of their husbands, they are relieved. The three women get angry at the fact that their husbands slept out. Mi Youn, who has rushed to the scene without wearing shoes, is all the more enraged at the fact that her husband didn't come home. Meanwhile, Sang Tae, Bong Sup, and Dong Kyu leisurely talk about their own stories, dipping their feet in the brook. Sang Tae soothes Dong Kyu, who's depressed because of his company's bankruptcy, but Bong Sup tells Sang Tae to mind his own business first.
Sang Tae breaks up with Yoo Jung and tries to act like a responsible husband, but Mi Youn is still cold towards him. Mi Youn eventually prepares divorce documents. Jung Woo takes Mi Youn to the suburbs to refresh her. He proposes to her by singing a mellow song. She fails to give him an answer, and he says that he will wait.
While writing a letter to Mi Youn, Sang Tae discovers Jung Woo's picture in Mi Youn's casket. He also witnesses Mi Youn getting out of Jung Woo's car. He gets suspicious of their relationship. Sang Tae presses Mi Youn about her relationship with Jung Woo, but she maintains that he's nothing more than her first love. However, as Sang Tae rails at her relationship with Jung Woo, she criticizes Sang Tae for being two-faced. After fisticuffs with Jung Woo, Sang Tae returns home with the help of Yoo Jung, and yells at Mi Youn that he wants a divorce...

Sang Tae, dead drunk, falls asleep, and the next day, he is stunned when he realizes that he is in his underwear right next to Yoo Jung. He is helpless as he stares at Yoo Jung, also only in her underwear, asleep next to him. Sad-looking Sang Tae returns to his apartment, and goes to see Bong Sup and Dong Kyu. Sang Tae comes clean about what happened, but Bong Sup and Dong Kyu have no idea what Sang Tae should do, and keep on saying that it was Sang Tae's fault.
Though Sang Tae tries to make an excuse to Mi Youn, who is firmly standing in front of the door. But she tells him to get out immediately, giving him the bag that she has packed for him. Overwhelmed by her anger, he forlornly walks out of the house. She explodes due to the betrayal, and Ae Kyung and Soo Mi come to soothe her.
Mi Youn throws out the sketchbook and the watercolors that Yoo Jung gave Mi Youn's daughter, and goes to a department store with Na Young to buy her new ones. Mi Youn comes across Jung Woo, who buys Na Young a sketchbook and watercolors. Sang Tae tries to talk about the things that happened the day before with Yoo Jung, but he feels awful when he hears that it was the first time Yoo Jung spent a night with a man. He gets afraid when Yoo Jung obstinately says that she will be responsible for what she has done.
Yoo Jung tells Mi Youn that since she has given her virginity to Sang Tae, she won't budge any more. Trembling with rage, Mi Youn faints, and is carried to a hospital by Ae Kyung and Soo Mi.

Though determined to get divorced, Mi Youn can't suppress her rage and shock. Jung Woo embraces her and relieves her by saying that he will give everything to her. Mi Youn gradually opens her mind to the prospect of Jung Woo, who loves her as always. The two enjoy dating. Jung Woo tells Mi Youn that he wants to go to the US headquarters with Mi Youn, and she answers that she can't go anywhere without Na Young, reminding him of her daughter. Although he thinks that Na Young is a bit burdensome, he tells Mi Youn to trust him, since he can overcome any difficulties because of his love for her.
Sang Tae is shocked to hear about the relationship between Mi Youn and Jung Woo from his colleagues. After submitting the divorce documents to the court, he is still depressed and absent-minded, even though Yoo Jung is right there next to him.
Ae Kyung closes her restaurant and strives to pay off Dong Kyu's debts, sometimes kneeling down before private money lenders. Ae Kyung and Dong Kyu manage to clear their debts and he feels grateful and sorry for her. Soon, she accidentally comes across a man she once dated, and he continuously threatens her. Eventually, he reveals his past relationship with Ae Kyung to Dong Kyu, and Dong Kyu, in a fit of anger, beats him and becomes cold toward Ae Kyung.
Bong Sup, anticipating that he will live in a farm with Eun Sook, learns that she was one of the organized swindlers. Though greatly shocked, he doesn't blame her and says goodbye to her, wishing her luck. He returns home and feels thankful for Soo Mi, his tough wife.
