Chikako Shida (Aya Hirayama) was born in 1910 as the first daughter. Her father was an elementary school principal in a small village. Her mother died when she gave birth due to the village not having any doctors. Her father hoped Chikako would become a doctor because of that incident.
Chikako Shida was able to achieve her father's dreams by becoming a doctor and returns to Nishikawa in Yamagata Prefecture.
