Plot
Participating in a popular reality TV show, a divorced man is asked to abandon his eight-year-old son LU in the midst of bustling Shanghai to find his own way home. The cocky and resourceful boy overcomes numerous hurdles and finds new and unexpected routes in a treacherous but often hilarious journey, tracked discreetly by a television crew. But unbeknown to the millions who are now glued to their television sets following his every move, Lu is secretly driven by a desire to find the mother whom he has never seen. With the help of a kindly air stewardess from Hong Kong, he makes a detour and heads for the skyscraping Oriental Pearl Tower, fantasizing her mother as a guardian angel who watches over the people of Shanghai. The young boy’s stoic determination touches the heart of the entire nation, including those of his estranged parents, as his personal quest reaches its bittersweet denouement.
