"Leonie" covers the life of American educator Leonie Gilmour and her 50 year journey as a single mother who resisted early 20th century norms in the U.S. and Japan. She influenced heavily the freethinking thought process of her Japanese husband, the celebrated writer Yone Noguchi.

Notes

Based on the life of Leonie Gilmour, the American wife of Japanese writer Yone Noguchi and mother of sculptor Isamu Noguchi and dancer Ailes Gilmour.
Filming took place from April through mid July, 2009. Shooting locations took place in Kagawa, Japan, Santa Ynez, California, and New Orleans, Louisiana.

Sally Jan 30 2012 12:57 pm I just saw this movie over the weekend. It was very touching and beautiful. I absolutely loved it. I wanted to see it because of Masatoshi Nakamura. His part was not that big in it but he did a fine job. Nice to see him in a role in English.

Barbara Mar 25 2010 9:44 pm Can't wait for the release! We will be very excited to see it especially since my daughter was one of the dancers (in a short dark wig) who was filmed along with Kelly Vitz in New Orleans. It was a great experience and everyone was wonderful. What an inspiring story.

I am a big fan of Masatoshi Nakamura and I am so happy to see him in an American (collaboration) movie. I am hoping he will finally get some American recognition. He is a superb actor (singer and musician) and so much deserves it...
