Three friends Dong-Geun (Yang Dong-Geun), Joon (Jung Joon) and Yu-Mi (Kim Yu-Mi) travel to Harlem in New York to learn about black gospel and perform on stage with the people of Harlem.

On their first day of class, Dong-Geun and his friends are scolded. Ouida Harding tells them they don't have soul in their songs. Ouida Harding also informs them that black gospel is something more than just a good voice or having technique. What is soul? The three friends wander everywhere in Harlem to carry out a mission from Ouida Harding. Will they find their own soul?

Ouida W Harding Nov 27 2017 10:28 pm These students came to the US with what they have experienced through the eye of the industry - that gospel music, is another Black music genre to be performed, (which was not the intent of Dr.Thomas A. Dorsey, the "father" of Gospel music). What they did not know was Gospel music as an extension of the Spiritual, the type of music Slaves used throughout their quest for freedom. What persons do not see in this documentary, are the off camera conversations regarding cultural similarities; our travels from NY to South Carolina to talk and sing with persons unmistakably related to many of those enslaved Africans who used music to survive. It was in our dialogue on the misinterpretation of Gospel music (ministry), and gospel music (entertainment) that confirmed my wish for more persons to gain deeper levels of understanding of the African- American culture in the United States.This for me was an honor I will continue to cherish.

Kay Apr 21 2016 5:24 pm No thanks. Everything about this feels and looks gross and it should have remained as an idea. Black people and black culture are not some "weird" things to take interest in and essentially take from. Horrible execution of what could have been a decent, natural intersection of cultures.
