Plot
Matsutaro Yasuda (Ken Ogata) is a tired old man burdened with the memories from his violent past. Through the years, Yasuda tormented his daughter and wife with physical abuse. Now that his wife has passed away and his daughter is estranged, Yasuda decides to move out to a quiet rural town in Aichi Prefecture. He hopes to live the remaining days of his life in peace, while forgetting his past.
The past is not so easy to forget for Yasuda. Matsutaro Yasuda meets a young girl named Sachi (Hana Sugiura) when he moves into a modest apartment complex. She sits alone on the doorsteps of the next apartment, but runs away if he walks close to her. At night Yasuda can hear screams coming from the next door apartment. These screams are from Sachi as she is being physically abused by her mom or her mother’s boyfriend. At first, Yasuda tries to shut out the screams, as he tries to shut out the memories from his past, but with each passing night he becomes more concerned. Yasuda decides to make amends for his past and takes young Sachi on a long walk.
