- Richard is the son of former Philippine cinema matinee idol Eddie Gutiérrez and former actress turned talent manager Annabelle Rama. His sister, Ruffa Gutiérrez, is a former actress and a beauty queen. Richard has acted alongside his twin-brother Raymond, half-brother Ton-ton Gutiérrez and other half-brother Ramon Christopher starred with him in Sugo.
- Richard also starred in Codename: Asero, w/his leading lady Heart Evangelista, and choreographed some of the fight sequences.
