Introduction
First started in 2007 by the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society, the Asian Film Awards (AFA) is an "international event which aims to acknowledge the finest of Asian Cinema and bestow honour in various major categories to filmmakers and artists from across Asia, in the company of distinguished celebrities from around the world as guests and presenters."
Awards are given in these categories :
- Asian Film Awards for Best Film
- Asian Film Awards for Best Director
- Asian Film Awards for Best Actor
- Asian Film Awards for Best Actress
- Asian Film Awards for Best Supporting Actor
- Asian Film Awards for Best Supporting Actress
- Asian Film Awards for Best Screenwriter
- Asian Film Awards for Best Cinematographer
- Asian Film Awards for Best Production Designer
- Asian Film Awards for Best Composer
- Asian Film Awards for Best Editor
- Asian Film Awards for Best Visual Effects
Rules and Regulation
To be eligible for the Asian Film Awards, films have to be :
- Feature length film over 60 minutes in runtime.
- 35mm or 70mm film format or in Digital Cinema format able to show in commercial Digital Cinemas
- Fiction films based in "Asian region" (determined by the Asian region defined by the United Nations)
- have English subtitles
- released between January 1 through December 31 of that calendar year (released domestically / internationally / preimered at an international film festival / received national film award).
Winners of specific years
