Hwang Dong-Ju (Yim Si-Wan) is the chief of taxation division 5 at the National Tax Service. He works hard to trace money that is hidden from the tax service. His team includes Seo Hye-Young (Ko Ah-Sung), who has a bright personality and his boss is Oh Young (Park Yong-Woo).

Meanwhile, In Tae-Joon (Son Hyun-Joo) is the director of a regional tax office. He is an ambitious man.

"Tracer" takes over MBC's Fri & Sat 22:00 time slot previously occupied by "The Red Sleeve" and followed by "Tomorrow" on April 1, 2022.
Ep. 9 & 10, which was originally scheduled to air February 4th & 5th, 2022, will air February 25th & 26th, 2022. The three week delay is due to broadcasting of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

Park Min Feb 20 2024 1:36 pm It's not really 2 seasons, there was just 3 weeks broadcasting delay in the middle because of Olympics. Otherwise, it's a full 16 episodes drama. However, it would have been really nice if they kept it to 8 episodes because the smaller side cases were really boring despite their relation to the bigger one. Both main characters Dong Joo & Hye Young had a good characterization but the remainder of the cast couldn't carry their own weight and ended up being bland. Although the plot was centered around tracing money but more often than not it deviated away from the tax evasion plot trying to be a different type of show. While the ending may have been acceptable but it left much to be desired. A drama with an interesting concept but it couldn't pull through to the end.

For me, being unfamiliar with Korean names, I had to pull of AsianWiki and refer to it many times to know which person they were talking about but it did not spoil my enjoyment. I really liked Im Si-Wan in Run-on and he is even better here.

jj Sep 24 2022 5:45 pm I love im siwan but this drama was sooo boring and slow paced. Not worth watching and i skipped through most of the episodes. There's nothing exciting in this storyline, the characters are so bland and always getting mad at each other. They could've summed up the episodes in 20-30 mins and maybe made a more interesting storyline/plot with more in depth characters imo. I really wanted to watch this because i love im siwan's acting but it was just too slow and boring. There's a reason i like series with fewer episodes better, because they're filled with interesting scenes and characters, and ending with a few unanswered questions leaving you wanting a season 2. But here they fill up time with unnecessary scenes of the same bickering back and forth. Unless they're building up to a special breaking point, i don't get why they drag it out so long. There's much more i could've said about this but i'll leave it at that.

First time watching a series with Im Siwan in it and he potrayed his characrer so well! Intricate storyline, well thought out dialogues, lots of dramatic plot twists - its so refreshing to finally see a kdrama that isn't focused on love/romance.

Only downside is some of the touchy scenes drag out a bit too long, and theres quite a lot of characters to keep track of. Had to replay a couple of scenes to fully understand it. This drama needed more recognition internationally - like a bigger premiere would have been nice. Overall a 9/10 for me!

Tin Mar 30 2022 9:02 am Finished Tracer 1 and 2 and I loved it!!! Regardless that the caption that I watched was so freakin' bad - like I only get less than half of what they ate saying cause captions sucks - it doesn't matter cause I can mostly get what was being said (still I wished to find a copy with good captioning so that I can repeat watching this...)

This made me fall in love with Siwan because I so freakin' love the character he's portraying - the silent and very intelligent guy... And although they didn't really push the love story which is so perfect, still I fell in love with his friendship to the female lead which made me want to see them develop their relationship, and that ending is perfect, it still gave me hope...

chesstitans Jan 29 2022 5:18 am P/S Like many other drama, this one also has many superfluous and gratuitous scenes which portrays emotionally the suffers of victims. This ends up backfiring the drama as those scenes drag on the drama, not to say they look a little bit like a farce.

Recently, many dramas follow the trend of twist plots and "unpredictable" ending, but they are all poorly executed. Resultantly, not only ending scenes looks contrive, unsurprising and unsatisfying, but also the entire story looks obfuscated and recondite. In short, many K-dramas does not know how to tell a good story, and viewers barely retain any impressive scenes or deep dialogues.

Note: I added another comment, pls look for it to fully understand the drama.

Another Mad Dog and Squad 38, nothing new. There is a group of venal elites who are outwitted by cheap ruses and illogical methods of protagonists. As the plot progresses, while the affinity of main characters is consolidated through interactions and dialogues, the bad guys are just shallow characters and are rife with negative emotions.

Although the plot is shoddy and banal, the director really knows how to insert impressive and superb pictures, symbols, and visuals to pieces of episodes.

Anyway, I respect the work of the casts, the writer and the crews; they deserve to get paid well. I wish they can become a better and more competitive version of themselves.
