Hong Eun-Jo (Nam Ji-Hyun) is a physician and the thief named Gil-Dong. She was born between a nobleman and a woman of the lowest class. Hong Eun-Jo takes care of patients at Hyeminseo during the day and, as Gil-Dong, raids the treasuries of corrupt officials to save people during the night. One day, an unexpected incident takes place to Hong Eun-Jo. Due to that, she becomes entangled by fate with Prince Yi Yeol (Moon Sang-Min), who is the younger stepbrother of the king.

Prince Yi Yeol is a handsome man, tall in stature, and possesses innate dignity. He seems to have an easygoing life, like walking around the streets, but he enjoys performing police officer like actions, like catching criminals and telling the eunuchs and court ladies in the royal palace about what he did. While his actions are misunderstood, everything is meticulously planned Prince Yi Yeol to protect his people. He hides his true abilities, under the guise of a hobby, but, by fate, he happens to encounter thief Gil-Dong and is captivated by her.

to @Uffff, after reading your review, especially your questions, I suspect you are not a fan of Sageuk/Historical K-drama. Thank you for your question. Let me answer based on my understanding and experience of the plot of this story/drama.

1. First, Hong Min-jik was the greatest archer in Joseon during that period. so he taught his skills to his daughter, Hong Eun-jo. (you should watch episode 10 again). Second, FL, ML, SML, and all the Joseon people know that the King and his entourage are on their way back to the palace after hunting in the forest. Then, the most suitable place to shoot an arrow to the royal palanquin/carriage that was carrying the King was the CLIFF in the episode 9. FL couldn't see a person's face clearly within a distance of 2 kilometers, but FL tried to aim at the person inside the royal palanquin/carriage. Do I need to answer any further?

2. Bro, physically, the King still has the strength to wield a sword and shoot an archery, but psychologically, the King's mentality is unstable. He was under the influence of drugs (poison).

3. Sorry, I can't handle this naive question uhh. but the point is that the King realized that only Im Sa-hyeong was on his side, so he freed Im Sa-hyeong from the punishment.

4. Sorry, can you be more clear, which scene/episode/plot are you referring to?

5. To get to the Leper Camp, you don't actually need a boat. You just need to walk, run, or ride a horse to get there. (Even if the Grand Prince rode a horse, it would be tied up outside the leper camp). in the Gisaeng/Courtesan Rescue Arc, they use a boat to trick the King and the royal troops.

6. In that scene, it has a hidden/implicit meaning that Eun-jo's friends who know Gil-dong's real identity, they do not say it clearly/obviously that Eun-jo is Gil-dong, they only welcome Eun-jo, who is their friend, who is a physician at Hyeminseo who has helped many people in Joseon. They didn't reveal Gil-dong's true identity to the people. The people (including the gisaengs) assumed that Eun-jo was just a friend/associate of the Grand Prince. The people still don't know that Gil-dong is a woman. If Eun-jo were revealed as Gil-dong, then Eun-jo would gain more huge popularity. But the truth is that Gil-dong still remains a secret, right?

D Mar 29 2026 11:51 am It’s nice, I like it, currently on ep 4 and I got disappointed on body swapped thing, the story of a thief like Robin Hood in old time is good and I think it doesn’t need to incorporate the body-swapped.

Even though he is not as brave and not as strong as his younger sister, he still has the responsibility to protect his younger sister. He's not as smart as Yeol, but he's not stupid enough to leave his younger sister alone in the chaotic conditions of the capital/country. So why didn't he tell Eun-jo that he already knew she was going to do something dangerous? Because he couldn't stop what Eun-jo was going to do, and at the very least he wanted to ease her worries about her family's safety. He continued to watch over, protect, and support his younger sister in whatever ways he could—without anyone knowing.

I think the second male lead shows the red flag attitutde because he wants to take revenge on his dad. If you remember, he clearly shows he hate his father for threatening him with the status that the father provide to him.

He actually wanted to live as someone like Eun Jo with warm personality, but he can't coz his father mentally groomed him to became like his brother. And the father seems kind on the outside but actually being hypocrite, he just dont show his real colours to people.

The second male lead actually portray his heart wanted to be kind and shows empathy but he have to force himself to be rude and evli like his brother. If I remember it correctly probably in ep 3 or 4, the servant accidentally hit the brother and the jade hair pin dropped. The brother being rude to the servant because of the low status, and he looked at his brother with an annoyed and disgusted face, but have to adapt and match his brother energy. Instead of helping the servant, he stepped on the jade hair pin and it cracks.

All in all, I have good faith in second male lead. Strongly believe he will be part of the ally and help the prince (coz you know, he loves eunjo and he wants eunjo in a good hand)

Btw, i don't understand the second lead syndrome in this? Is it the bad boy vibe? He is not bad, he just evil and twisted at this rate. Second lead syndrome is usually when the SML is a green forest. The SML is the brightest red stop and we shouldn't be attracted to him at all. He just need some help n therapy.

Kimberly Jan 25 2026 1:27 pm I usually get second lead syndrome in kdrama but sadly not this one.. why do they just have to make him be this kind of person where he end up hurting or nearly hurting eunjo mentally and physically. It really put him in a very bad light. Maybe that can be change in the later episode.. and although i really want the prince to end up together with eunjo, but seeing how their family is enemy where the king even put a sword on eunjo father..i don't know how they can be together... Maybe if they run away and live happily ever after somewhere else without worrying about their family but that's really unlikely will happen. Cant wait for next week episode 9!!!

KdramaLove Jan 20 2026 9:46 pm (Spoilers) Honestly, after being disappointed with Moon River, I didn't want to give this a chance, but I'm pleasantly surprised with how interesting the storyline is. I also think the main leads have good chemistry. However, I'm now on episode 5 and I hate the direction they are taking it. They definitely did not need another soul swap storyline added to this. I feel like it would be more interesting if they focused more on her being gil dong and how she comes close to being caught. They could have added more tension by having the prince on house arrest and she sneaks in give him evidence that will get him out. Something to bring them closer, add tension, and get the story moving. Soul swap, if not done well, just gives the story a bunch of plot holes and it's hard to create good chemistry with the main leads. I'm going to keep watching, but not a fan of the direction so far.

The body swap incident was kind needed as the both character were unaware of each other perspective. However if it could have been displayed in other ways the hype would not have been lukewarm at end of epi 4

I actually kinda enjoy watching episode 5 now waiting for episode 6. I just hope that in the end of this it would be a happy ending for both eunjo and the prince, wouldn't want to watch anymore sad ending. I like the actor of the king, but if he have to get murdered in the drama then just let it be i guess because there's been so many drama where the king be death and the main character be the next king.

In my opinion, the chemistry between NamJihyun and MoonSangmin is More Aesthetic. Studio Dragon created this drama beautifully, with every detail of the scenes and audio. The script truly deserved to win the script contest held by Studio Dragon in 2020. I really enjoyed this drama. I always can't wait for the next episode of this drama ^o^Thank you for creating this beautiful work <3

Flower Rain Jan 12 2026 12:53 pm In my opinion, the "body swap" plot is related to the word "TO" in the title "To My Beloved Thief". So, to understand the thief's reason, he must be the thief. Because in my opinion, if the thief only explains his reason with words/talk, then there must be those who believe it and there are those who don't believe it.

In my understanding, the person who will save the Joseon people in that period is Gil-dong/the thief. However, EunJo/GilDong can't do it alone, while Yi Yeol (Do Wol daegun) can't However, Eunjo/GilDong can't do it alone, while Yi Yeol (Do Wol daegun) can't do it without Gil-Dong's movement. So they have to work together, or even become each other by swapping bodies.

But the swap just took away the organic plot. Now its just another sorcery drama, i am really interested with the male lead character because he is a tough man with a kind heart but now were swapping the bodies??? i cannot stand the directoooor

Back to this drama, I’m very happy because Nam Ji Hyun is the female lead. Her acting is always good and never disappointing.

For Moon Sang Min, he fits the role of Cheona perfectly. He’s so funny, especially when he gets shy after kissing Nam Ji Hyun that scene made me smile a lot ^_^

Another happy thing is this drama has 16 episodes aaaaa I’m really happy! I hope this drama has a happy ending and not too heavy conflicts.

green grass so pretty Dec 12 2025 1:45 am Wow, can't wait to watch it. I recognized the leads that stated here. I really like Nam Jihyun since suspicious partner and I watched good partner also. It is one of my favorite drama. She's so pretty and such a good actress. And Moon Sangmin also, I have watched some one of his works. He's so cute. I like him in Under The Queen's Umbrella. He also suits the historical genre. Hong mingi also I recognized him in study group. I can understand why people want him to have more screentime. He's so cute. such honeybunch sugarplump. Hehehe. all the best to this new drama. I'm looking forward to it.
