Riku Hayase is a gentle pastry chef who gets framed for the murder of his wife Natsumi, who had gone missing two and a half years earlier. To prove his innocence, he undergoes plastic surgery to change his face and assumes the identity of the very detective who came to arrest him, a corrupt cop named Gido Ayumi. That is the reboot of the title. It sounds far-fetched, but the scriptwriter Kuroiwa Tsutomu makes it work. The star of the show is clearly Suzuki Ryohei, who plays a dual role here. He has to be two completely different men, the soft-hearted family man Riku and the hard-edged, morally crooked Gido, and he pulls it off with confidence. Viewers who watched closely noted how he shifted his body language and tone between the two roles. That kind of acting discipline deserves recognition. Toda Erika is sharp and watchable as Ichika, the accountant with ties to a shadowy organisation who helps Riku carry out his plan. Their dynamic keeps the story moving forward even when the plot gets dense.
