Loh Ki-Wan (Song Joong-Ki) is a North Korean defector. He has arrived in the unfamiliar country of Belgium from North Korea because of his mother Ok-Hee (Kim Sung-Ryoung). He wants to settle down in the country, but his only hope for him to stay is to receive refugee status from the Belgium government. He fights to get that. Loh Ki-Wan then meets Mari (Choi Sung-Eun). She used to be a Korean, but she has now received Belgian citizenship. In her past, she was a shooter. Unlike Loh Ki-Wan, who came to Belgium to live a new life, Mari doesn't have a reason to live. They have an unpleasant first meeting, but fall in love with each other.

Aisyah Apr 13 2024 10:43 am If you're wondering to watch it or not, I'll recommend it Song Joong Ki still has his depth in portraying the emotions of his character I've been a huge fan of the female lead, Choi Seung Eun since I found her in Beyond Evil. How come a rookie actress acts that well? She nails her role as a shooter and druggie with so much details... She's so pretty, I can't stop being amazed by her beauty, she is the number #1 prettiest actress currently for me.

The unfortunate thing is only the chemistry, maybe because of their age gap, 11 years, they're unable to connect beyond coworkers... I don't see love from their eyes... I hope they take this as a constructive feedback for choosing and doing their future project

Suz Mar 25 2024 12:14 pm Well, as usual, great performance from all the actors. The writing & directing were also very well done. However…omgosh, so difficult to watch! SJK played Loh Kiwan too well & I couldn’t stand to watch such a beautiful character abused at every turn as he struggled to survive. My husband refused to watch any more & we had to stop less than halfway through. So I decided to watch by myself until things turned around & I could promise him that things would lighten up & get better for the characters. CSE also did a stellar performance as Marie. I wanted to yell at her, but was so glad when she cleaned up her act. (Although to get off hard drugs that easily seemed like a real stretch.) That was my favorite role I’ve ever seen Jo Han Chul play. I would have liked to have seen a larger part or at least to have him take another normal role in a new drama or movie. I was so glad when they were able to leave Brussels & landed where it wasn’t cold, dirty, dark & full of evil parasite criminals. Anyhow, I decided that my sensitive husband can resume watching when there are 36 minutes left. I have to say, this is a good work & without the scary violence, I do prefer it over corny, cutesy & unrealistic dramas.

Aieleen Mar 13 2024 1:40 pm Didnt expect anything about this movie but it turns out a very great movie. kiwan and marie surprisingly have a great chemistry but a their time together was little bit short for me. All in all the movie was good, casts were all great too.

Ajumma Mar 08 2024 1:22 am SJK sure does depicts his roles exceptionally. He is a very versatile actor and has great chemistry with his female lead. Overall great movie, has it's low and quite realistic features. Life is not white and black in a foreign country especially for a defector. I'm glad it had a happy ending and he wasn't limited to staying in Belgium. The freedom he sought, he got. And a partner whom he deserved. I really liked Marie too, she played her role perfectly! Her father is a great actor. The ajumma from the butcher's nailed her role perfectly. Overall great movie!!! I recommend.

McQueen Mar 05 2024 4:09 pm Wow, guys, how were you even able to watch oppa suffer in this movie, I haven't even watched for 30 minutes but I've already paused for like a million times to calm my raving heart, dry my eyes and blow my nose.

All that I can say is great acting oppa, you've shown us that no matter what role will be given to you, you will always ace it. Forever Song Joon Ki❤️

Wow, solid performance by SJK, as always! He proved that his good look isn't his sole asset. His superb acting speaks lauder! He portrayed the hardship of being an immigrant very well in this movie! Great job SJK!

Binero Mar 04 2024 4:12 pm Sadly disappointing. The movie started really promising and had so much potential to show the struggles of north korean refugees. But no, they had to make unnecessary struggles like someone bribing people to make false statements at his hearing for some reason that was never really explained. And multiple times where random people made a point of beating him up for their amusement. And then it even went more downhill when they made the movie suddenly about a underground betting ring and the leader making the female lead his shooting slave. And then that massacre at the end. The movie was all over the place. The writers were like teenage fanfiction authors who don’t think that the real struggles of a homeless refugee who’s stuck in limbo just waiting for his next trial were enough and just had to add a very weird and violent subplot to it. Song Joon Ki was great but the story was just disappointing.

But the North Korean lady worker at the meat shop was so hilarious.. I mean when she cursed out the guys betting was so hilarious. She's a tough cookie & her north korean accent was so amazing! I watched it 2 times in a row lol...

Storyline, cast and acting made this well worth watching and how it played out was totally unexpected. The realistic scenarios thrown into the mix made it anything but boring.

Have always been a Kdrama fan but this movie was next level up.

Not sure why some reviewers thought it was a waste of time...it wasn't. Some get it, others don't. Was definitely worth my Netflix subscription.

It includes everything we want, a realistic story, yet its exciting, romantic and it luckily has a happy ending. Song Joong Ki's acting was very good, no surprise. The visuals of the FL fit this drama very much, she's very pretty. Yet I think the ending could've been even better, why did she leave the country as if it is a corrupt country filled with criminals? This makes Europe look like a poor 3rd world country smh. But nevertheless, awesome movie

Maggie Mar 02 2024 3:12 pm Kept me hooked and it was heart wrenching. But it did have a good ending. Both Actors did well. Watch most of Song Joong Ki Dramas and movies. My first KDrama was Arthdal Chronicles which made fall in love with K Drama that was in 2020. Never looked back. Thumbs up

I knew this movie will be good for when I first watched Choi Sung Eun in Beyond Evil, she already left a great impression on me. Song Joong Ki, needed no fashionable clothes to prove his acting skills, & he really carried thus film. Amazing! My faves from his works are The Innocent Man, A Werewolf Boy and Reborn Rich.

Can't wait for Sung Eun's next projects! I can stare at her face the whole day. So gorgeously pretty!

Fama Mar 01 2024 7:27 am one of the best I movies I’ve ever watched. It was beautiful. Song jong ki was beautiful. I won’t spoil the movie but it was one of the best depictions of second chances in life. You could lose it all, hit rock bottom, and still make it out one day. You could make mistakes, but you will always have the chance to correct them. Sometimes life is unfair, sometimes you meet the worst people, but sometimes good comes out of bad. And even when nothing is worthwhile, you can get out of it. It’s a must, must, must watch. I was bawling by the end. What a masterpiece
