Ren Kosaka (Ryusei Yokohama) arrives in Japan to take up a special temporary lecturer position at an art university in Kamakura, Japan. He is a young and talented artist, who has a certain aura about him to make people want to get closer to him, but he also keeps a certain distance from everyone around him. Like butterflies that surround a flower, he is surrounded by other people. One day, he meets a certain woman and, because of her, his emotions begin to change. Even though he knows it will hurt ... nevertheless.

Mashiba Apr 21 2025 9:54 am Let me start with how great of an actor Ryusei Yokohama is! He portrayed the depth and intensity of Ren's character so well.

Minami Sara also did great as well as the other cast. Damn, there wasn't a single dull scene. Even the side stories aren't rushed despite having only 8 episodes.

If I were to compare this to the Korean version, I think this is a lot better. The scenes here are beautiful and profound. The back story of Ren is also well-written. You will never hate him.

LM Feb 01 2025 6:21 pm I actually like this better than the Korean version. It’s a light-hearted watch despite the moody vibe. Although it’s only 8 ep, I personally don’t think things are being rushed at all and it beautifully conveyed the message that loves do come in different shapes. I really appreciate the cinematography, very well done, the whole series is an art piece in itself!

I prefer Ren over Jae-On because Ren is less problematic and vain. Ren is sexy and smouldering without having to be pointed out that he’s is, unlike how it is in the Korean version, where everyone constantly talks about how hot Jae On is to constantly remind us. The ML really embodied that charismatic, mysterious, tortured soul that makes everyone flock around him because his character is genuinely intriguing. He speaks with his eyes.

The artist/s who drew the portraits of the ML and FL at the end is/are incredibly talented. Not sure if Ren’s art pieces that were shown on the website FL was looking at are real but those are amazing too, I would love to see them in an actual gallery.

RonW Jan 19 2025 4:37 pm Gave the Korean version a thumbs down and give this the same. The only thing that makes this better but still not worth watching is that you can waste less time on it. You get through it even faster if you want by fast forwarding while still getting the gist of the story. As to cinematography what’s so great with all the dark and grainy night and indoor scenes?

Sasukai Jan 11 2025 10:59 am People always gotta plain about something. The slow burn was great, the side characters had enjoyable moments too. The Japanese language just makes the scenes look much more kinder than the original version. I love how they kept apologising every other second and the chemistry was there. I personally want a Ren and Chiapas storyline because there story was kind of depressing. I liked how it wasn’t a straight copy of the original. This version beats the original by far.

I also feel that the emotional bonds are intense looking into each others souls to see if each can touch the other. I am anxious to see how and if the barriers come down between them so that they can intensely feel the connection they have for one another .

Kiki Dec 26 2024 12:15 pm It says it has here it has 8 episodes, on Netflix it has only 7. What happened? Anyway, this for me is better than the Korean version. The cinematography, the angles, the music (they even included Twinkle Twinkle little star which was so out of place but it fits at the same time haha), the tone, the pace, the acting and the subplots (and I really hate subplots, but this time its necessary, obviously, because of the title :D)

Sam Dec 20 2024 6:47 am I love it more than the Korean version ngl. It's different and unique and feels more deep, thoughtful and artsy. Its like a quiet intimate love. Not loud . I love that kind of love more than the loud , in your face kind of love / romance. It's totally my type.

It started strong, the main concept is the butterfly life, it's there and surrounded by others but always fragile when contacted with others. Our lives and personalities are the same, when we react with others, we should expect to get hurt in the way.
