"Best Seller" is a thriller centered around writer Hee-Soo (Uhm Jung-Hwa) who moves to a small house in a rural area after becoming involved in a plagiarism scandal. Hee-Soo then hears a mysterious figure tell horrifying stories and she writes a new novel based on those stories. Her novel becomes another best seller, but Hee-Soo's success is short lived. The stories in the novel are discovered to have been published 10 years ago. To prove her innocence, she goes back to the house to uncover the mystery that lies there.

Notes

Actress Uhm Jung-Hwa lost 7 kilograms (15.4 lbs) for her role in "Best Seller".
Filming began November 2nd, 2009 at Suwon KBS, in Gyeonggi-do.
On November 12th, shooting moved to Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do.

J. M. Gaffney Jan 13 2014 5:35 pm This is a poor film of a potentially good plot. The pacing is quite poor. The characters are flat. The acting is overly melodramatic; not at all subtle, i.e., it's not an intellectual film and it has all the elements to be a good intellectual film. A waste of resources in that respect. The chase scenes are too long and quite contrived. The underwater scene is utterly unrealistic: far too long underwater. There was no true resolution of events. It's a terrible muddle that, with some common sense and some deft writing, could have been a very clever terror-mystery film. It's less a story and more of a tale. Too bad. I think the screenwriter knows what's going on in his/her script, but doesn't have the wit to make it clear to the audience. That's as much the director's fault as the writer's and that's no surprise since they're one and the same. I'd like to see the script in English. I'd like a chance to rewrite it, to establish a logical plot, to create scenes that move the plot along plausibly toward the goal, and to resolve the issues rationally. The plot has potential, but, just like one of the millions of sperm created in the heat of lovemaking, the creative juice went astray. It's not the first time a lot of effort was wasted bringing forth a stillborn baby.
