Lee Da-Il is a private investigator. He was formerly in the military, but a whistleblower case led to his discharge. Jung Yeo-Wool becomes his assistant. She is a fearless woman. They work together to solve a mystery surrounding the death of a younger sibling. They also work together to solve other cases, some involving ghosts.

Ted Jan 26 2024 5:06 pm I watched this b/c Park Eun-bin was so good in Extraordinary Attorney Woo. It started out promising and I wanted to like it. Many scenes reminded me of Bram Stoker's Dracula - the book, not any of the movies - the little group that comes together to solve a supernatural problem, their brainstorm meetings in the classic style office, and their outings to meet their opponent. Alas, the production just devolves into an endless series of variations of every cliche horror scene you've ever seen, over and over and over again, everyone of them inconclusive. And everyone just walks away until they meet again in the next cliche scene. But the music was done very well, but after so many hours, I reached my limit of spine-tingling suspense. It made Park Eun-bin look bad, as well as other actors I'd enjoyed in My Mister, Start-up, and Itaewon Class. I gave up on this one. I'll watch Stovepipe League or Castaway Diva next. Hopefully one of them will restore my faith in Park Eun-bin.

Park Min May 01 2023 4:11 pm It's a mockery to the horror genre. A low budget indie horror movie from early 2000s would be infinitely better than this. It's equally as bad in being a mystery/thriller as well. The story was laughable without much structure and full of embarrassment and plot holes. Aside from the cast there's nothing to look at.

I don't understand the main character's relationship. Even though they just met and knew each other, for some reason their bond was suddenly so strong and they wanted to protect each other. such as reasons and ties that are less strong and less clear.

I also don't understand the concept of "Ghost" here. In the end the only thing that separates "Ghost" from humans is the visible and the invisible

I am looking forward for another investigation/action/thriller drama of mostly the main cast! (Daniel Choi, Park Eun Bin, Lee Joo Young, Kim Won Hae and Lee Jae Kyoon).

If a drama invoves Kim Won Hae, for sure it is really an amazing drama! Watch "Black".

He fits perfectly for the role. 10/10 for the team! I was also captured by the acting of Lee Joo Young! She carried the role very well! (Silently wishing for its Season 2 but I doubt it will happen)

I will watch other dramas of Daniel Choi and Lee Joo Young!

I think this is common for kdrama Binger watchers, from one kdrama then you watch another kdrama because of one of the cast of the previous drama, then watch another again because another cast captures your attention then it's already a cycle! It never stops! hahahah!

Sentinel Aug 01 2022 7:21 pm I rate 8/10. Came to watch because I'm a fan of Eunbining, stayed because the drama itself isn't actually that bad. It's true that the first half is much better while the later feels just like forcefully dragging the main plot, but they didn't mess it up too much. Just the few bad point is the male lead can't act well, he's good for certain roles that don't require much facial expression but otherwise he's a bit awkward. But still much better than the rookie male leads who don't know their place. In conclusion, this was entertaining enough so do try if you're interested.

It's 1.15 a.m where I live, so I figured let sleeping dogs lie, and come back tomorrow, in broad daylight, and find out What Happened... haha. I think it will be exciting. But not in the middle of the night (I might have nightmares?!!!) lol...haha! Back later to write a proper review... G'nite!

Fa95 Jul 22 2021 1:34 pm So i decided to watch this show despite the countless reviews detailing the plot holes and saying that the latter half was bad. Adding to that, the ratings were bad too but somehow i kept coming back to this page. There was something about the plot that made me want to watch in spite of all the bad reviews and bad ratings. And im so glad i did! I did not regret it for one minute. This is coming from someone who loves shows like Voice, Beyond Evil, Law School, The uncanny Counter, My Mister, Hot stove league, The Guest, Train, Signal, Kingdom, Vagabond, Stranger, Liar Game, Bad Guys, Hello Monster (there are lots more but these are the titles i can recall for the moment). Point is, I'm a huge fan of thrillers with action/mystery. The presence or absence of romance does not matter to me. Now that I've got that out of the way, lets get into the drama itself: Storyline: the plot starts strong. There are scary bits which are tastefully placed and are not meaningless jumpscares. The whole idea of a ghost who uses the darkest parts of the human mind and turns it against them was interesting to me. This was a ghost who was still mentally a 12 year old child. She wanted to be right as most 12 year olds do and she was angry. She took advantage of people and their darkest thoughts just to prove a point. Except there were two people who did not follow the straight line she had etched. And that is where her obsession with our main leads begins. All of this was skillfully done by the writer. Sunwoo hye's anger and hatred, the rules of the ghost world. And then the tiwst. Dealing with a ghost was bad enough but how do you deal with a reanimated body out for revenge with no means to kill them? I loved that little twist. However i give the plot 7.5/10 because while the plot was engaging, i feel like the writer took on more than they could handle which lead to some plot points not being concluded and leaving much for the viewer to deduce themselves. For example, why was that rich ceo going so far for the agency? I get that he was grateful to them for finding and returning his daughtet but even then you would expect him to be a little skeptical no? And seeing him smile in one or two scenes made me think that maybe he had nefarious purposes but at the end of the show he was just a money bank for the agency. Then there was park eun chong who in my opinion was an unnecessary addition to the show. He did not bring much to the plot and the show would not have changed much without him. Then there's the part about lee da il being back...dont get me wrong i was incredibly happy that the show brought him back, but what is he? Is he a ghost? An in betweener who can travel between this world and the land where ghosts stop before they move on to the next life? I could have really used atleast a hint. In my opinion lee da il is no longer a ghost, the biggest hint being when he changed his clothes without yeo wool having to offer them to him. Then the whole being able to control the evil spirit side. All of this made it seem like (to me atleast) that he was no longer a ghost. I saw alot of reviews raising questions regarding plot holes, not just on this site but on other sites as well. Having read those reviews beforehand i was prepared to determine whether these were actual plot holes. My verdict? 80% of those plot holes are not actually plot holes. Why was sunwoo hye captured in the dash cam but not in the cctv? Simple, she wanted to be seen in the dash cam. She can choose to be visible to others. Another thing is that when yeo wool sees sunwoo hye for the first time, she is cradling her sister's head and in a close up of that scene you see that her hand also touches the hearing aid yi rang is wearing. That is in my opinion the reason why yeo wool was able to see sunwoo hye back then. Also we learn later in the drama that a ghost causing a startle response can result in them being visible to others. When yeo wool saw sunwoo hye she did not know she was a ghost. Yi rang had already been dealing with her for some time hence none of them were startled by her. While the restaurant manager was definitely startled. Another thing people complained about was the characters going of on their own and creating unnecessary problems just for the sake of 'conflict'. I disagree. Yeo wool goes on her own to kill sunwoo hye because she knows lee da ill will not let her. She believes she has the way to end sunwoo hye's killing spree and decides to act on it. Lee da ill acts on his own yes, but viewers forget that he kept detective park and kim gyeol in the loop so technically he never acted on his own. He was just selective about who he let in on the plan. Some viewers said that sunwoo hye being unkillable was ridiculous. No it wasnt. In the show's universe it made sense. Yeo wool was supposed to stab sunwoo hye that first time because she was willing to sacrifice herself. She knew that she might fail but still decided to go forward with it. But lee da il stabs her instead. Lee da il is a ghost and at that point he was unaware that his body lived. Hence he wasn't thinking about sacrifice. Him stabbing sunwoo hye broke the rules and so created an abomination. Viewers asked why did lee da il suddenly start disappearing and 1 a.m. that is already explained in the show so i wont get into it. A question i saw raised by a review in another site was that why didnt lee da il disappear with sunwoo hye the first time he held on to her the first time she disappeared at 1 a.m but was able to hold on to her in the last episode and take her to his body. The explanation is simple. Lee da il was a pure ghost the first time he touched sunwoo hye. She was evil while at that point he couldn't touch anything. It was painful for him to even touch her. Therr were too many variables as well. The first time it was sunwoo who was disappearing. In the last episode lee da il had been corrupted by the powers he had gained and so was able to touch her and keep hold of her. Also sunwoo was weak. Like gil chae won said, she was AB to ghost meaning a universal donor. When her abilities disappeared, so did her AB blood group meaning that sunwoo faced what we call in medical terms a tranfusion reaction due to mismatched blood. That weakened her beyond belief. Some people were incredulous about the whole poison the drinks to cause a mass murder. But in my opinion when you keep in mind that sunwoo is a 12 year old, it made perfect sense. Her ability to change clothes? She can simply control people and take their clothes. She doesnt even have to kill them for it. She can stay in different houses and the owners wouldn't even remember the next day. I hope i have answered most of the doubts viewers might be having.

Characters: i loved all of them. Yeo wool was a wonderful character. Brave, strong, relentless and willing to sacrifice herself in the end. Lee da il was an amazing hero. His little smile followed by "how dangerous can a ghost be" was when I knew he was going to be a terrific hero. I loved gil chae won too. She was a sassy character. This show proved that it is possible to have more than one strong female character and not necessary to add any conflict between them. I didn't like detective park initially but he grew on me.

Acting: it was perfect except for the guy who played detective park's partner. Everyone else was spot on. There were a few particular moments that stood out for me. When lee da il and yeo wool are sitting in the hopsital next lee da il's living body and talking, that particular moment when choi daniel changed the tone of his voice and you can hear the heaviness, the sorrow, the need to be next to yeo wool, the desperation to live with her, it was a great bit of acting. Then there is the part when gil chae won is telling sunwoo about her being AB blood group to ghosts, sunwoo asks why she is telling her that to which gil chae won responds with "to confuse you" the cherry on top was the smirk and head tilt. It was a nice touch. Park eun bin had several shining moments but one in particular was when she was possessed but sunwoo hye. Her walk, her smile, head tilt everything was spot on. I loved it

Chemistry: it was amaaaaazing. I love shows like these where the love story touches you deeply. It reminded me of the love story in train. It was beautiful and it made me believe that our two leads would overcome everything just to be next to each other. The first time they hugged was one of my favourite moments. You could feel what they feel. I truly want park eun bin and choi daniel to be cast in another show, an ocn show preferably.

The ending: i choose to believe that it was a happy ending. See the thing is, in the realm of fantasy anything is possible. In the realm of fantasy the rules are not so rigid. Being an avid reader, i have read so many books under the fantasy genre where ghosts become human, vampires become humans, people travel to the past, people have super powers. Even in kdramas like goblin and angel's last mission we saw impossible things happen. So why cant Lee Da Il become human again? I choose to believe that because his sacrifice was so noble, he was given a second chance and eventually he'll become human. He came back to the real world after he heard yeo wool's voice but he stayed away from her to give her a chance at a living normal life. But they found each other again. He was the most selfless hero i have seen in a long time and it is my belief that his selflessness was rewarded in the end. He'll become a human eventually and his ability to travel in between worlds will ensure that they won't have to make another sacrifice to get rid of ghosts. So in the end i will rate the drama a 9/10 despite its imperfections because i enjoyed it and it made me smile.

Here's to hoping that someone decides to cast these talented leads in another drama, preferably another mystery thriller. Loved them together. I hope they are cast in an ocn drama

Some people had trouble understanding the drama, but don't give up! Keep watching till the end because all of it will fall perfectly in its place! (I might regret if I don't watch it till end) ?? Plus, the writer is so good in highlighting every character in this drama! It's indeed a well-written drama! I love how they made the leads became closer and eventually fall in love just by taking care of each other from getting hurt by the ghost ? It probably lacked romantic scenes but I still want to praise the good plot for getting me to actually realise how love can be so beautiful without those kind of scenes ❤️ Kudos!

This comment my contain Spoilers: The cast was amazing but am more intrigue with Gil Chae-Won past (shes my favorite character) I wish they could have explain why she lost her spiritual power after touching the Priest body? There are a lot flaws in this story specially with Lee Da-Il being stuck in this world, honestly if Sun Woo-Hye said to him "that make sure if someone will exist like me help them also" I would have understand if it went like that. Also where & what happen to the little girl that they help? Also who is the unidentified body was being move in morgue? Am really confuse in that scene in ep2. why would they focus that scene when it was not Lee Da-ll's body cause the psychotic Nurse said he was the one who stole his body.

At first I didn't realize it him until I read the cast.. He Really Awesome and Hot even as ghost >.<" hahaha.. I'm looking forward his new work without glasses like this...

This is the most unique & most beautiful horror series I've ever seen with a bittersweet love inside! ❤❤ And Da Il & Yeo Wool will be my favorite couple forever!! ❤❤ Acting, Camera angles, Lightning, background music & VFX were all excellent as a horror series.!!..

Furthermore, I really love the ghost theories which were logically explained! Looks like some chingus are confused by it! But Da Il made a strong will to be touched & seen by people. And it's clearly explained throughout the plot!

And hats off to Daniel! He's the most talented & most handsome K-actor I know! ❤❤ And all the actors just made this series remarkable with their excellent acting performances! It's 10/10..! And I'll be the happiest if we can have a Season 2 of "The Ghost Detective"...!

hana Nov 27 2018 10:52 am @SHQA it's kinda interesting that you were confused with the plot.. i think it was not confusing even with the flashbacks and all but that's just me..i can't speak for everyone else ^-^.. the flashbacks made me undrrstand the story even more...and they can actually see him at some point in the drama and at the end because he learned to show himself by will/emotion.. same thing with being able to touch things.. he learned it from the ghost by the tunnel...

SHQA Nov 26 2018 3:01 pm I started this drama mission for Daniel Choi, and endured the 32 30-minute episodes for Daniel Choi. He is the most charismatic, photogenic, handsome K-actor. His acting skills were well-utilized in this drama.

The plot was confusing, confounded by the constant flashbacking/flashbacks and singing. The singing diluted the tense scenes. Sun Hye Woo's screen time was overkill. Some acting was overkill, but the casting was fine. If the story had been unveiled in chronological order, instead of flashbacking, it would have been seamless instead of listless like the ocean tides.

I was perplexed when the characters started talking directly to Lee Da Il, when they were not really seeing him. The Return of Lee Da Il at the end, when everyone could see, touch and hear him, was very confusing.

Start off well, great story idea actually, but then lost it on its way. Not sure to watch it completely. Bad storyline, boring/repetitive plot. I think there’re holes in the plot, so they add this and that afterwards. Sometimes it make me feel like one (of the many) scene are ridiculous. Not convincing enough.

But again I love the actors & actresses. I felt bad for them. They were great! Too good for this drama actually..

Thanks God its finished when I watched this, the story went really well keep you watcing them nonstop and guessing what will happen, whats their plan and all. Really! Hurry make the season 2, even though it’s little bit creepy, but I love the main role in this movie and still want to watch them. No progress on their relationship?? Come on, it’ll be perfect with romantic kissing scene XD LOL

There could be amazing stories created!! What other evil ghosts there could be. Lee ji-ah made my hairs stand on my arms. And lol, yes, when he is driving, remember he said he can make people see him. Plus where was the emotional kissing scene when they reunited? (Sigh) season 2 please.

Ryunami Nov 01 2018 5:54 am Ghost Detective started with a very strong plot and a list of good actors which was why i chose to watch it but towards the end i couldnt keep up with all the last minute theories thrown to us.. the ending seems rushed.. we even laughed on how a dead Da Il drives the car (stop with the car promotion already) LOL the ending was really funny and wasted Yeo Wool's precious tears

This type of drama you have to do marathon, can’t watch for only 2 episodes each week , because will lose momentum of the story line, got little confused and less excited ... I don’t mind watching season 2 with different case each episode , just like the Voice or Criminal Mind type of drama..... I love crime drama . KBS need to learn little better to make crime drama more like OCN . I will miss the cast. T—T ...

Moving into the next few episodes it started to get dull because the story kept being told around Sun Woo-Hye character and all the horrible she did and still does. But OMG from episode 27 onwards its such a bore already. Everything is so damn repetitive.

Catch Sun Woo -> Lock her up -> She escapes. Like duh you guys already know she can control people mind so easily why still be so careless. I'm only watching it because I loved Daniel Choi in Jugglers and also Kim Won-Hae ahjussi as always great acting. Imma most probably drop this drama or wait till all eps air so i can just skip to the end. Sigh

With some plots repetition and despite negative review , I decide to finish what I already started and for sure it’s a very unique and weird drama - in a good way . One more thing , I think I learn a lot about ghost now lolz . The cast well rounded , awesome actors. Expected little romance but if there is none until the end , it doesn’t matter. Still great. And to everybody , keep watching ... don’t give up. It’s great Halloween series.

The leads scenes are so cute and sweet in so many ways, it doesn't have to be kiss scene, you can feel the love and caring. The cop guy is so cute, i have not seen him b4, I like him. Love the autopsy lady, she is so damn chill and cool. They dragged the red dress lady too long and it was like an endless progression. Sometimes I feel they promoted the cars instead of the drama.

Daniel Choi has an outstanding presence on screen.

This plot kills the mood. I am watching because I like the two main leads. But the drama seriously need major twist besides the 12 yrs old ghost. Or maybe add romance ? If this turn into short movie maybe better, but not 16 episodes drama.

The plot needs time to develop, so don't expect to get the answers right in the beginning of the series. It's a mystery drama! The female ghost has the mentally age of a 12 years old child. Therefore she acts so childish! I admit that the beginning was quite boring, however few episodes later the story starts to get extremely interesting.

The actors give their best to perform each character. And they're doing well! So please don't complain about things in the plot, which have reasons to be like that and just enjoy it. ^^ If you don't like mystery and thriller dramas, don't watch it.

BenguK Oct 12 2018 5:16 am The story is dragging - I've watched up to 22 episodes so far and there is not a single improvement in the woman-in-red's story line. Why the heck she is able to control every mind whether she is alive in flesh or just a revengeful ghost; main leads' story is not interesting at all and the fact that they keep meeting the woman-in-red everywhere and then nothing happens is the main theme of this drama. I plan to stop watching until all the episodes are aired and then watch the final episode to see how the story ended just out of curiosity :)

Rating is low in Korea but sure gain attention in Viki. This type of adult drama is rare and we — international viewers love it . And did I mention Daniel Choi so handsome , I mean his transformation from Jugglers to this drama almost unrecognizable. Park Eun Bin is cute, Kim ajhusi always versatile . Now it’s still halfway and we just need a good story line ...good luck to all cast.

It's so annoying. It makes her character less believable. Her younger self is more evil & vindictive and menacing. I think they could have picked a better actress to play WooHye. She needs acting classes. I hate to say rude things about actors but she is totally ruining the drama for me.

Appear on bright shiny day, able to whisper on someone inner thoughts, the human probably scarier than the womans spirit, romance feeling between heroin-dail ruin the chemistry(detective look more sincere), spirit women even gain super power after wakeup etc. I'm still watching because of dail assistant, the doctor/shaman, the detective & the lawyer. I even skip dail-yewool moment

Boring Sep 28 2018 2:50 pm I like all the cast but this woman in red storyline is so boring. After 6 episodes I find myself thinking who cares? I hope the writer changes the story so it’s a ghost of the week detective show, that would be infinitely better than this dry storyline where a woman kills people in her coma for no real good reason. The actresses white face and red lipstick is also getting on my nerves. The role is so bland and cliche she doesn’t have the charisma to make the character more compelling. Fingers crossed she dies next week so the cast can get to work on some real ghost cases.

Tim Sep 12 2018 11:47 pm unidentified body is not the woman in red, episode 6 show that she actually is in a coma and hospitalized, they made the ruckus before he was kill, after that he went to the daycare and got killed there, I think in case of unidentified body is because he got no criminal record and nobody reported him missing, thats why his body is unidentified, I think in Korea people don't normally getting their fingerprinted unless it's for criminal record or for immigration, or they could check his dental record assuming he's going to the dentist regularly, otherwise the dentist don't keep their patients record for too long, they get rid of all the old records after a few years. the case that he can touch her or she can touch him is still unclear, and another interesting character just pop out, the doctor with glasses Gil Chae-Won she seem to have some special power too, she can touch something and can see its past. its only 6 episodes and there are so many questions, its interesting though, will wait for more.

Sazori Sep 09 2018 1:50 am If he is truly dead then basically the title itself is perfect... self explanatory...but there are scenarios that scriptwriter must explain.. 1.) how was the girl able to flip him as whichever angle you look at it you can’t touch a ghost right?!

2.) And the unidentified body... if that was him.. scriptwriter has to explain why can’t he be identified? they only showed of him being hit by a hammer in the head and dragged out in the field but didn’t show the culprit hammering or disfiguring his face, torturing or removing his fingerprints etc that can result to as unidentified body?

Although nothing summing up within the 4 episodes, I still like this show and the lead actor Daniel Choi is indeed the perfect for this detective role :)

Tim Sep 06 2018 8:11 pm so he's dead, and now becomes a ghost detective, ah I kinda had this feeling that he's dead from the end of last episode when he had this surprise look on his face at the end of the episode, so he probably looked at his dead body, and the unidentified body in today episode is his. This took me by surprise, didn't think the writer would let the main character die from the beginning and become a ghost, still interesting so far, will continue watching. the biggest question in this show, who is the lady in red?
