Hye-Joong (Jung So-Min) can't remember anything before the age of 4. Every night she experiences terrible nightmares. Unable to cope with the nightmares anymore, she heeds the advice of a shaman and goes back to the villa where her family stayed 24 years ago. The villa is now known as "Wonderland." There, she meets Hwan (Hong Jong-Hyun), Soo-Ryun (Jung Yeon-Joo) and a white rabbit. During the next 15 days, Hye-Joong has to find something that is missing. If she succeeds her nightmares will stop.

Sanity Mar 16 2025 9:41 pm This is the 10 year anniversary of this movie. I rewatched it. It’s still a good movie - even after all these years.

I know the movie can be confusing. The movie itself is filmed like a dream sequence. Like someone trying to recover their fragmented memory. That alone is done well and amazing.

When I saw it many years ago - it required looking up to understand it. It’s based on a true event. A sad event. Retelling the story this way is creative and deals with a hard topic in a fairytale retelling. Once upon a time …

I don’t think they are blood related siblings. This is an adoption story. When the “domestic worker” leaves - she leaves her child with this rich family. They adopt him.

I, also, think that it is inferred that the reason she becomes a domestic worker is because of becoming an unwed mother so young.

This I a story of forgiveness. That makes the story beautiful. The FL learns to forgive herself. She was like 3 or 4 when it happened. She didn’t know what she was doing. She was neglected by the adults, and left to “look after” a baby. Which is why his socks are mismatched. Because a 3 or 4 year old was dressing him. Guilt is released so that she can live again. But only after she can remember what really happened.

12ecember Sep 22 2021 9:06 am I unintentionally watch this movie in 2021 (after all drama of So-min and its pop-out) and I re-watch it after I finished with a lot of confusion “with some explain”. But for me, I have a different point of view from previous explanations

As the SHAMA and the HWAN mentioned, the way HYE-JOONG said in the beginning (also late end) that she "killed" someone. For me, it was not a "physically kill" but it was about "MENTAL kill". She killed HWAN in her memory and he is completely lost in her mind since 4-year-old. 1st, the time-life I figured out that “Present” is 2014

2nd – they are siblings and I believe the – imagination bed scene was just put there for movie promotion. 01:21:48 - 01:22:13 Bed scene with empty Fish-tank switch into a full tank, then JOONG woke up with empty-tank and asked herself this dream or not. And the fact that she cants not know which is real or not.

From the past

- 21-March 89. 01:34:36 SOO-RYUN began her work, then she had an affair with JOONG‘s Dad while JOONG’s Mom could not stand by herself.
- 28-March 90. 01:13:28 HWAN said it was his birthday and the calendar in 1990. He also mentioned that he’s afraid of being FORGOTTEN than dying.

- in late 1990. 01:35:40 – 01:37:01 , In HWAN’s room, SOO-RYUN asked JOONG to take care of HWAN, without her. Which means she was forced to leave as Soo Ryun’s Mom at 37:14 “your baby was taken away again?” (+1)The rabbit was clean, then it moved to the scene they thrown the clean rabbit with baby HWAN, I think, buried him alive. SOO-RYUNtried to kill 4-year JOONG – for revenge, but she can’t when JOONG said HWAN's name in her dream (& she loved JOONG). Then she hung herself, left the Pink- Bundle – which hold by her crazy-mom after her death.

1991. 01:28:41 : JOONG’s Mom asked “Are you STILL missing her?” after he refused to hug due to painting. Then, JOONG’s Mom, & grandma, the old concierge death.

28-March-1991: Her dad suicided on returning from France. (it could be 91 or 92 due to the left-diary of JOONG Dad 14:43 )

Until March 2014 - at 07:28 (also at 01:19:44 ) - Calendar is March/ Horse year – 2014 JOONG woke up and made breakfast for AUNT, she got hurt but she told “FOR SOMEONE I LOVE” as she was told by SOO-RYUN at 01:29:25. (after SOO-RYUN got hurt, JOONG took a knife, the camera move back, there is nothing left there, no Soo-Ryun, no cutting board….its not real)

17:47 While the SHAMA talked about a talisman that kills soul, and she said to AUNT “without your mom knowing” (AUNT’s Mom – JOONG‘s Grandmother) and there was another talisman from the one who stared or witnessed the ill-fated circle – Grandma again, well, she also sat there and heard it too.

JOONG just came to Wonderland and couldn’t realize which real or dream, due to her memory, she only dreams about dying which led to blood, anything else.

After all, she remembered HWAN, who was “mentally killed/ deleted” by her memory.

In the end, and once again “GOT HURT FOR OUR LOVE”, HWAN pushed her and opened the talisman to seal him and his mom, to save her life. Then both baby HWAN and SOO-RYUN smiled just like forgive.

(+2)… However, I still have another theory, that when SOO-RYUN was forced to leave. JOONG took care of HWAN. As she did before 01:53:40 (HWAN cried and was saved by dad). JOONG feed him candy or something like flowers 01:32:56 , and unlucky, JOONG's Mom ignored and Dad came late. JOONG did kill HWAN by mistake (I don’t think she used a knife due to the clean rabbit). Which led to HWAN need her remembered him to resurrect to the next life, if not, have to kill JOONG. So HWAN did the same as I mentioned above.

And in 2015, the HWAN picture was blown out by the wind, which is in the song as “the wind, the spirit’s love…my spirit always with her”. For me, it is just a reminder that even HWAN is dead, he is still with her, and She also remembers about him.

“I will always watch over you because I love you deeply in my heart” (sign-language dad-JOONG-HWAN knew).

May Jun 28 2021 9:11 am I watched this movie 2x and I really love it. This movie it might be confusing but if u pay attention in every hint u will understand. But still I'm confused the relationship between JSM and Hwan but still it's awesome.. I hopepe they work together soon ??

Sea Lion Mar 24 2021 10:02 am Just watched this movie yesterday and I really loved it. It was indeed a beautiful piece of art. Beautiful pictures and soundtracks.The cast..all of them portrayed their roles so well. The chemistry between the 2 leads was so on point. The both looked like living dolls in my opinions...pretty faces and adorable eyes. I loved how they set the tone of the story and that 360 degree twist at the end... It got me deeply emotional watching it. You just need to get totally lost to enjoy it I guess. How would I described it? Yes it was very confusing like you would be finding missing pieces of puzzles the entire 2 hours. Again...you must get totally lost and set reality aside to totally enjoy this movie.... Just let Hye-jung lead you to the end and try not to make senses from the elements.... Remember Hye-jung could not really differentiate between dreams and reality... I totally recommend this movie if you are into pieces that require deep-thinking. My advice is that be sure to get lost with Hye-jung....just follow her lead but at the same time pay attention to all the hints and little details.

First of all, they're are not siblings. As you can see in the movie when the nanny (soo ryun) left Hwan to Hye joong's care, she wnt to see the the body of her dead baby being buried by Hye joong's family. It was the result from her affair with Hye joong's father. Afterwards, she decided to kill herself or maybe the grandmother scared her to do it to spare her son's (Hwan) life. However, when Hye joong decided to play with Hwan she thought that the knife was okay to play with because that's what she sees from her nanny. So when she started to stab Hwan, her mom went inside the room and saw her daughter ready to stab Hwan, she closed the door and act like nothing happened. I think it's her revenge to the nanny for betraying her. Then after that incident, everyone died except for Hye joong. Her mother and grandma got a chronic illness then died a year after while her father on his way to france sunk with ship also the other guy with them during the burial died afterwards. The black woman in black robe with a cat is actually the grandmother and the girl hanging on the tree on white dress is the nanny. Hwan grew up ( i think it's his second life) and remembers everything about Hye joong. His only chance to be ressurected is that if Hye joong will remember or she kills her because Hye joong is the one who killed her ( but of course he lover her that's why he wouldn't do that). I guess Hye joong suffered a trauma that cost her to forget her memories before 4 yrs old. The nanny is mad at Hye joong not because she killed her son but i think its because she forgot everything about them (she loves her cos she grew up with her). The ending is a bit unclear tho i dont know if its the spirit of Hwan or maybe just same body i guess. That's technically it for me.

Ps. I thought this is a chick flick or childhood romance drama lol but its was good. Jonghyun is hot.

•Joong and Hwan were siblings(Joong confirms it in the end). •I’m pretty sure the sex scene between the siblings was a dream, but it was still weird either way. •he and the nanny(his mom) went into the after life at the ages they died. •Hwan went on to his second life(starting at the age of 24), this is why you see him playing his guitar w/ the rabbit at the end while Joong watches.

Helly Dolly Oct 23 2018 9:19 pm Finally I understood I watched twice today for the first time and I understood. *SPOILERS* So apparently Hye Jong's dad and Nanny started relationship and then Hwan born because nanny came to their house and they started like each other in 1989 (Nanny and Hye Jong's dad) and 1 year later Hwan born because Nanny came in 1989 and Hwan was born in 1990 (we saw Nanny came in 1989 because of dad's diary. and dad's last diary was wrote about 1990 and they were lost.And when Nanny came to their house she measured Hye Jong's height. When they showed the past there was 3 or 4 measured height but when Hye Jong came again in that house when she was grown we saw another measured heights to we sure the Nanny stayed in the house much more than 1 year- near the measured heights there was written time it goes to 1990) so it resembles like he was 24 years old because the writer wrote the script and then movie shoots in 2014 and the movie finished in 2014 and released in 2015 so we know when Hye Jong grown up time was in 2014 so we can undertand Hwan born in 1990 when Hye Jong 4 years old and plus she cant remember before the age of 4 and Hwan said he's 24 years old so he born in 1990 and movie time was in 2014 thats how he was born in 1990 and thats how the recent time was in 2014). In the first beginning of the movie Nanny and dad made love in Blue Door room and we know The Dad and Nanny had sex. And she gave birth and we saw the room where baby killed (the lockedroom)there was a new born baby (Hwan) and Hye Jong. Later Nanny said to Hye Jong "Even if I'm not here will you take care of Hwan?" And Hye Jong said Yes and Hye Jong's mom and grandma spare the Nanny and baby and told Nanny to stay quiet. When the last scene Hwan said "You loved her didn't you. You gave her candy and took care of her (It was something like that) and Nany said to Hwan that she wanted to do things with him too (Nanny loved Hye Jong and wanted to play with her cause she can't saw her son and she loved her as her child too). So we are sure Hye Jong's mom and grandma spare them apart. And Nanny took care of Hye Jong. And Hye Jong played with Hwan and loved him And we are sure they're half-siblings. And when Hye Jong tried to show her love to Hwan with knife (she thinks it's a way to show love because Nanny said when she cut her finger with knife and she's a child so she doesn't know) Hye Jong's mom came and did nothing. And when she came to the room the baby was still alive but she wanted to baby die so she hang up the door and did nothing. And later Hye Jong's dad find out and saw two of them with blood And it was too late and thats how baby died (and Nanny didn't kill the Hye Jong cause she knows it not her fault and she loved her too). I still can't understand the sex scene between Hye Jong and Hwan but I think It was a dream. Cause she actually wanted the use the talisman (or charm or amulet I don't know what's the right meaning) the one that Shaman gave to her but she didn't use it cause she didn't think it's a dream. I think she wanted to think It was real. Cause Shaman gave her and she said something like that " If you think something's not real or dream open the talisman" BUT she didn't open so she doesn't know if it's a real or not. BUT personally I think it was a dream yes they loved each other. And if someone noticed Hwan always wears a Unmatched Socks and Hye Jong did like that when he was a baby. The Unmatched Socks means incest relationship so they loved each other. but even if they're had sex for real then I still couldn't understand cause It doesn't make sense. And Hwan stuck life and death Cause Hye Jong couldn't remember him ( Shaman said something if ghost loved ones cant remember them they will still stay in earth and grow like a human. So it's looked like Hwan stuck between two worlds and He was supposed to go to after life when he was 24 years old. But I think his grown soul came back like second life and baby soul went to the after life with Nanny cause we saw Nanny with Baby Hwan and she disappeared in peace and with a smile on her face. So I think Hwan met her again in his second life. In the last scene we saw he sang a song and Hye Jong saw her I think their story has began at that moment. That's All. But what I think is true cause everything makes sense and I'm sure they're siblings. All of the scenes says like that P.s. : Sorry for my bad English but I hope you could understand.

I'd disagree with certain points. The movie is difficult to understand at one go but definitely capturing enough to watch it again. Honestly, I can't watch anything again but I did watched this movie because Hwana!!! Jokes apart, the thing is that when Hye Joon stabs the baby Hwan with the knife, she didn't mean to kill him but thought it was a game to show her love because she heard that from Soo Ryun when she got cut that was exactly why even in the beginning she cut her hands when she feels scared or see someone she loves dead. Hwan was in love with her because as he grew he already knew that Hye-Joon loved her all along. How they suddenly fell in love was because they already were in love all along Hye-Joon just forgot about him in her memories but knew he existed in her heart. Hwan and Hye-Joon weren't exactly siblings because Hwan was Soo Ryun's son. The person who took care of Hye Joon was her aunt because her mother died way before because as they said everybody who had anything to do with that house died which means Soo Ryun killed them all. Hwan could've been alive if her mother wouldn't have shut the door when the baby was crying and Hye Joon was stabbing her. They all covered up everything and Hye Joon forgot Hwan. Hence, Hwan was inbetween both life and death. The only thing I couldn't understand was the ending where she sees him again because ultimately Hwan should be dead but I am not sure since the Shaman woman said something about the spirit aging and living till 24 so I didn't understand if remembering him till 24 was supposed to be for him to die peacefully or for him to become a real person. Also the very very last scene before the thanks and all was really confusing because Hwan said it's time to part. I think the male lead did fairly good acting because his character was supposed to be innocent as a baby and he definitely looked like that. I wonder how they made love when he looked like a baby but well his body was definitely too sexy. The shower scene wasn't for it to look good on screen but was the very beginning where Hye-Joon thought she was dreaming but it wasn't. It was an introduction to Hwan's reality that there is something going on and it isn't just a simple thing.

I really understand the movie as you and i just want to confirm my suspects. Just with the differecen that i think he is alive in the end because, he could reborn each spring and that explain why is he alive at the end. I'm sure that she is really lucky because he could do it; i really cry so much even at the end, i feeling so sad. I wish see they live together happy after all :') but i know that the world don't works as we desire. I just want to know the instrumental music for the movie i just can found the song of Hwan but since i listen it i just want to cry. Is an amazing movie, a little bit confuse but a good one and i love the actors specially Hong Jong-hyun <3 i really love him *o*

Nam Apr 23 2017 12:07 am Love the chemistry between jung so Min and Hong Jun Hyun. Here are my thoughts from the movie: 1. How did the people in Hye Joong's life die? Grandmother in hood died from a house fire and father commited suicide on his way back from France. The aunt mentioned this when the shaman asked if she knew about the numbers 3,28,24. The aunt's older brother (Hye Joong's dad) committ d suicide on that day. Probably because of the revenge from the nanny on the day of Hwan's death. I would also guess that the granda died on march 28 in a different year. Nanny hung herself from a tree.

2. Who is Hwan and how did he die? Hwan is the nanny's son from another guy and his mother brought him to HJ's house because she's a stay in nanny. HJ had this weird idea that if you get hurt (nanny gets cut in the finger) it's ok since its for a loved one. So when she got bored she cut up Hwan because she loves him. (This is crazy HJ logic, I know.)

3. Why did they have to have a sex scene? I think is this scene was not necessary but added just to give more emphasis on the fact that HJ and Hwan are not siblings. Also probably as fan service.

4. What was HJ's nightmare all about? Who were the bloody people in her dream? HJ was "haunted" by the nanny who the shaman saw while HJ was sleeping. The nanny is trying to make HJ remember the past by showing her two bloody bodies. At first the faces were obscured but after several repeated nightmares, 1st HJ's face was reveled and the grown Hwan's face was revealed. So basically it's a scene from 24 years ago when HJ unwittingly killed Hwan.

5. What is the deal with 3.28.24? As stated by the shaman, 3.28 is for March 28 and 24 is the symbol for man. To heal her nightmares, HJ must remember her lost memories by march 28 or else she and her aunt will die. This is probably because of the curse/haunting by the nanny pushing their family members to die as revenge for letting baby hwan die.

6. Why did Hwan still die on the 28th and reappear in the end of the movie? I think he thought HJ remembering did not work, but in reality it did. This is because (1) HJ is still very alive by the end of the movie and (2) both the nanny and baby Hwan was shown moving on to the next life. Big Hwan just reappeared as a sort of farewell to HJ. The new guy with the guitar in the park/campus is probably a doppelgänger of Hwan and will be HJ's special someone.

I thought that the baby(hwan) is not Hye joong's younger brother from his own mother, but from her nanny instead (?) So, her mother who must be hate her nanny because she is cheating with her husband wasn't care enough for little hwan and let hwan died in hye joong's hands. Like She didn't want to care just pretend didn't know anything 2. who's the hooded woman? Was she Hye Joong's mother? She was Hye Joong's grandma who becomes ghost or something because of what her did to Hwan and Her nanny Actually, I still don't get the plot twist, but overall, the movie is good. I love Hwan. And the ending, for me is happy ending because later Hyejoong meet a guy looks like Hwan. Hahaha... I love Hong Jong Hyun and Jung So Min!!!

Andressa Feb 17 2017 12:49 am Loved it. The actors are great, so is the script. The scenes are amazing and the Alice references were cool. They are not brothers!!! He is the son of that woman, but not from her father. When her aunt reads her father's journal, it says: "her son was born!" And that's when they started having an affair. A soul gets old if you are forgotten by your loved ones. The baby has memories because it's not a baby anymore, he grew up. It may be confusing, but that's the world we were in while watching this movie. 10/10

HushHoney Jan 24 2017 8:11 pm It was a bit confusing but I did understand and would really want to question why there was a "sex scene", that's incest! Here's what I think what happened, this might help others to understand it but please do correct me if i'm wrong. Hye Joong forgot everything that happened when she was 4 years old. Her mother was sick at that time and her parents hired a nanny who became so close to her and had an affair with her father. One of the scenes shows her mother was in a wheelchair and another scene shows her mother fully "dressed-up" went inside the room where she was playing with baby "Hwan" with a knife (so i guess her mother had recovered by the time the baby was already 3 months old) and didn't bother to stop her and just closed the door (I guess the baby died because of the cuts). Her nanny committed suicide. Her nanny was so mad at her "not because she hurt Hwan" but because she forgot about her loved ones (including her nanny, i guess). It was mentioned in the movie that when loved one/s forget about a person who died, the spirit or something of that person will get old (sorry but that doesn't make sense to me). Anyways, that's how I understand the "twist" and the rest you can watch. It is really an interesting movie and it still left me with some questions, who's the hooded woman? Was she Hye Joong's mother?

The acting was great but I don't understand why does the maid need revenge on Hye-Joong when it's technically her fault that Hwan died. And there is a scene in the movie where Hye Joong parents died beside each other but probably the exact same time the maid committed suicide so who killed them. And how does Hye Joong manage to see these two spirits? They are both dead. I remember Hye Joong was given the task to find what she lost by March 28th and when she remember everything on the exact day it was still too late and how does Hwan manage to appear at the end when he is dead?? But overall this movie was good but I still can't connect the dots.

Patch Nov 26 2016 10:12 pm I was super confused about the whole movie until I went and looked up reviews and explanations of the movie. I love the characters, but the plot line just doesn't add up. Honestly, I still don't even know who killed her parents. I might've missed it, and I'm guessing it's the maid but who knows! Anyways, as many have said before me, there was rarely any passionate scenes between the two main characters. Sure, they kissed once, slept on the same bed more than once, and they both held hands but the chatacters lack the love interest. There was simply no love shared between them that would show the viewers that they truly were in love with one another. That was why I was really confused when the "sex" scene came on because I never got the intention that they loved each other to the point where they need to step up the game. Also, the dreams that she had confused me as I was failing to desiffer if she was either dreaming or in reality. But again, I was just completely confused throughout this movie. Maybe it was just me but the ending was confusing as well. I usually understand everything after the end of a movie but this one, I didn't understand one bit of what had happened. So basically, he would die if she fails to remember what she had lost in the past. And when she does remember what she lost, it was already too late??? Like w.t.h? They said that if she doesn't remember by the 28th, he would die—and she did remember on the 28th so shouldn't he not be dead? Plus, if he did die, why is he even alive? I'm so frustrated about this movie to the point where I'm pullin and scratching my head for answers that I'll never find. One last thing: everyone keeps saying the main guy is her brother and I honestly don't think he is because that's kind of incest. In the film, the director fails to show us whether or not he was her brother. All we know is that he's the maid's son and he was killed by the girl. The maid had an affair with husband, yea, but I don't think there was enough 'time' to make a baby as many can see that the baby was more than 3 months. Overall, I believe this was a good movie. Jungle_fish Sep 30 2016 1:20 pm After I read some comments and re watched some scenes, now I understand the whole story. Hwan is not son of hyejung's father, hyejung and hwan is not blood related sibling. Hwan's mom was already pregnant even before she worked in hyejung's house. The scene showed it when hwan's mom was hanging the clothes and little hyejung like saying 'onni, let's play together' and the angle shot hyejung who hug hwan's mom in her apron which means that undirectly hyejung asked hwan *fetus* to play with her. Another scene which made it clear that they are not sibling is from hyejung father's diary when it said "her son is born" instead of saying "our son is born" *eventhough I watched from not a really good sub, I though it's right, the word*. Overall I like this kind of movie when I kept thinking about the movie even after I finished watching it. And hwan's appearance here was like a healing when sometimes ghost appeared and suddenly hwan like coming wearing white shirt and clean cut, love it.

I loved the movie, but was really annoyed by the fact he seemed to be her brother, so I looked for clues to prove to myself he isn't... Unfortunately it backfired, because I found just the opposite :( The maid arrived at Hye Jung's house in march 1989, as her father writes in his journal... But when Hwan tells her about his birthday, they show the calender saying 28th March 1990. As his mother had an affair with her father, there is no way out and it is just disgusting that it is the way it is...

Sakura Aug 11 2016 8:25 am Okay so at first this movie was soooooooooo confusing, but they explained it pretty well before the end. After that, it made a lot more sense and all because of a husband's infidelity smh. Super weird at times but also had some heartbreaking scenes. Worth 1 watch and also look out for HJH, he's got some super attractive scenes (for the wrong reasons once you find out the end lol). OVERALL THOUGH I FEEL LIKE WHOEVER MADE THIS WAS HIGH OR WUDEVA.

Aki Jul 27 2016 6:14 am SPOILER: I think they have the same dad. Remember during the recap, the father shows his affection to Soo Ryun first (the kissing scene). Only after that Hwan came into the picture. Besides, when they introduced Soo Ryun to the household, she doesn't seem to be carrying any kid nor pregnant. Even the period they stayed in the pension is long. From during Hye Joong's mom sick until she's recovered. Anything can happen during that time. So yeah I think it's kinda incest. This is just what I think, though. What I don't understand is why Soo Ryun asked Hye Joong to take care of Hwan when she's not around when Hwan's already dead during that time? I thought they just want to get rid of Hwan's dead body not Soo Ryun...

bogumfan Jul 12 2016 12:07 pm I watched this movie with terrible english sub. Luckily i can understand korean a bit and relate the stories. I must say i love chemistry between the leads.jonghyun and somin potrayed the character so well.i cried so much watching both of them. It's painful but great beautiful love stories although the story seems a bit confusing. I dont know if they have the same dad or not but i hope they don't since their love seems so pure and beautiful.Jonghyun is seriously so handsome. I really hope to see both jonghyun and somin work together in a drama soon.

bunni3fly Jul 05 2016 10:52 am I just watched this and with very terrible subs. Fortunately, I am able to understand a bit of Korean so the subs were bearable. Yes, it was confusing at first, well, that's part of it, the movie wants you to keep on thinking.

As I understood, Hwan and HyeJung doesn't have the same Dad. Hwan is the son of the Nanny (SooRyun) that she brought with her when she started working with HY family. But eventually the Dad and SooRyun had an affair. In Korean, when someone is older than you, you either call them Oppa/Hyung (for boys) or Nuna/Eonni (for girls) and you call the younger ones dongsaeng (which literally means brother or sisters) even if you are not blood related. Which is the case in this story. Hope this answers some of the confusion. :)

I would have loved this more if they didn't have the same dad also she killed him when she was a kid but i don't get why in the ending he is there in the park then he came back to life?????? anyway it was great and heart wrenching if good looking guys give u pain

kms92 May 18 2016 5:27 am the movie is good...i like how the story goes though at some parts...you can clearly predict how the story will go...also there was a part of the story that is a little bit awkward...you will notice it once you knew the truth behind everything...

anyways the actors portrayed their role well...hong jong hyun is as always a handsome and a sexy man...haha :D ...i will not rate it as perfect though maybe 7 out of 10...but the movie itself is worth watching most especially if you are an open-minded person and if you enjoy movies like hansel and gretel...
