Kusuo Saiki (Kento Yamazaki) is a 16-year-old high school student. He was born with psychic powers, but he hesitates using his super powers in front of other people due to a childhood experience. Kusuo Saiki now tries to keep a distance from others to hide his psychic power ability, but his classmates with distinct individuality gather under Kusuo. Can Kasuo keep his precious ordinary daily life?

Leigh Jan 02 2021 9:01 am Tbh this is just kinda tragic. There was a lot of potential for this movie since wardrobe design and casting made it so promising, but alas, a let down. The biggest let down is I don't understand why they slowed down their speech so much. Normal Japanese people don't even talk in such a slow speed. Yes, the anime is made hyper fast, but normal speech would've been fine!!!! The sentences were dragging in all the wrong places!!

Saiki, although befitting his monotone, was too. Monotone. I understand that his character is supposed to be legit bored 99.9% of the time, but anime Saiki had a condescending tone to him, and was at least (.....^.....^.....) whereas LA Saiki was just (..................)

Kokomi, I honestly skipped most of her scenes, I think the speed would have helped for her character to be more on spot, and Kanna is befitting for the beauty aspect, but her poor height.

Parents look absolutely horrific, btw.

Nendo was a big let down. He had the perfect casting but he just wasnt. Funny! Nendo became Saiki, a character who's seemingly bored at everything. From what i understand, Nendo's low IQ means he would behave somewhat like a child, but he was just not happy in the LA. When he says his catchphrase "lets go get ramen" it was just monotone. He could have been more bright and cheerful. PLUS, the legendary marathon scene with Hairo? He was straight up looking bored! He's supposed to be childlike amused.

Honestly the ones that the LA got right is Kaido, Hairo and Aren. Aren's anger was spot on, although I miss the purple hair, Kaido is 100% perfectly chuunibyou which is just bloody hillarious, and Hairo is a legend, although the slow speech definitely affected the full potential of his performance.

They cant just easily tell YamaKen's not good in acting cause they're really wrong about that. I have same sentiments with you regarding with his new works. He's improving each movies/series he played. I dont know why people always talks about this. I've been calm since I've heard about this topic but speaking ill of an actor who's given all his best in acting is really upsetting.

Mindy Oct 12 2018 5:11 am Scrolling through all these, its quite shocking to read comments describing Yamaken's acting as that of a "dead fish". I'll admit, I'm not a fan of all of his movies but have you seen his most recent works? His acting in Orange as the depressed and struggling Kakeru had me emotional for days. Even my mother, who'd never even seen a Japanese movie before, said that even though Kakeru smiled, he seemed to be "hiding a greater sadness within", because that's how perfectly Yamaken aced that role.

And then there was his character Otaro in Todome no Kiss. I never thought Kento could play such a crazily dynamic role, a man as evil and selfish and mindbogglingly greedy as Otaro, and yet, he proved me wrong yet again. Of course, let's not forget his role in Your Lie in April, where he convinced me he was a musical genius.

I get that its easy to label someone as just another pretty face, but it'd be silly of us to deny how dramatically this man's improved over the years or the fact that he's become a very stellar, flexible actor in the industry. So let's stop with this nonsense. You can't judge a book by it's cover, and that works both ways.

But they also have to add special effects and the crazy character details. The anime itself is very good and I can see why it would be so hard to make it live-action.

Those who have read the manga and watched the anime may find the gags under-performed in this live action version. Nothing is unexpected here. I watched the entire movie without giggling even once.

Kento's acting is fairly good, but the thing is... they make him talk... with his mouth open! Kanna seems to not know how to handle her character. Her Kokomi is really annoying. The actor who portrays Hairo does not suit the character at all. On the contrary, Arai-san is the star of this movie. He is 100% Nendo. Kaido and Kuboyasu have too little screen time and almost no interactions with the rest of the cast. In short, this movie did not disappoint me. It just didn't amuse me.

Oh, one more thing... Matsuzaki-sensei is HAWT!!

The reason why his acting is so hated and perceived as a "dead fish" is because the roles given to him are actual dead fishes. I mean, he's good looking, and almost all Romance mangas have hot guys (who are tsunderes/meanies) as lead character. Do you get what I mean? Take a look at Orange, in which he does not play a tsundere. I've heard he won an award for it. I've seen it and most of his heartbreaking scenes gave me goosebumps.

I'm not a fan of good looking people who can't act, that is why I can't consider Sota Fukushi in my list. But Yamazaki Kento is a different case. The dude can act.

And no @luop, Shori doesn't look like Saiki Kusuo. He looks better as Reita.

the real concern here is who will play the secondary characters. I really have no idea who can pull off Nendou. His character is hard to pull off cuz he's not a yankee even though he looks like one I want to see Suda Masaki playing a chuuni character Kaidou Hashimoto Kana is perfect for Teruhashi. And the one who will play his brother has to really be creepy

I have high expectation too at this live action since I love the anime so much cause of the stupidity and absurdity lol. but I think Kento plays too much movies. Im not jealous at all but it feels like they use Kento just because he has handsome face and also famous. there are many great actors as well and we need to see them in a movie too not just Kento all over the movie. no hate.
