Risa Shiroki (Haruka Fukuhara) is a 20-year-old university student. She came to Tokyo from her hometown in the countryside to attend a university. Although Risa Shiroki is pretty and popular with male students, she has never had a boyfriend. She dreams of having a sweet love. One day, Hiroto Fukami (Dori Sakurada) appears in front of her in a suit. He is a 30-year-old business man. He is gentle and looks perfect. Risa Shiroki and Hiroto Fukami fall in love, but Hiroto Fukami has a dark past.

OMG! I've watched a lot of JDrama but this for me is the best! Even comparing it to KDramas that I've watched (hundreds) I'd say this will fall amongst the top best! I love that from the start until end of this 10 eps series, it feels like I have butterfly in my stomach! And because I hate 3rd party story to the core, I was so happy because although there are a lot of guys that liked FL, you'd always be assured that there won't be anyone who can tear them apart! I love this so much! And job well done to all the leads especially to Dori, he's so good!!!

I haven’t seen a comment about that yet. Also, as much as I love Dori, I didn’t like this show. He was heckin’ possessive and she was naive and the friends problems were rarely brought back up so, they just kinda sat there for the rest of the show, idk. It felt empty and very off to me

July Orps Aug 03 2020 7:44 am it is rather good drama if they expand it a little more.I cannot really follow what is the story about.The story itself is missing its concept of coffee and vanilla..The writer should explore more storylines to make justice to its title.Its indeed boring.The plot is boring.Its not an exciting one.

Lolita May 06 2020 6:24 pm Her acting was so stiff in Coffee and Vanilla drama. And plus the drama itself was not beautifully arranged. I feel like something was missing in the drama plot. Camera angle? Script? I don't know. A drama based on manga should be made into more lively story (in my opinion), realistic acting and not just stiffly interpreted the manga. By the way, I couldn't totally blame her for it but yet, a good actress/actor would make any drama/film works.

Christina Cabbage May 06 2020 7:40 am The only reason why I want to comment is because I dont see any comment about it. On the last episode (episode 10), they actually made a reference to their other show they starred in, 'Good morning call'.

When Risa (Haruka) was feeding the coffee vanilla ice cream to Hiroto (Dori) he said "Sweet" and she replied, "You don't like sweet things". This happened when Daichi (Dori) took Nao (Haruka) on a date and they said the same thing.

I just thought that was a cool move for the director or whoever included it. Props to him. Overall, the whole thing was weird and cute. I kept thinking of their age gap but still cute. Cringe like every lovey dovey show but cute. I'm always done for a cringey love drama. Dori is so peng. Periodt.

ayaya Mar 31 2020 4:03 am No wonder they look familiar, I just realized that the male & female leads were in Good Morning Call. Why does it seems like she always plays the role of a stupid girl? XD. Why should her character so stupid? They just met for couple of minutes and she's willing to have dinner with a stranger, and a few hours later they become lovers? So stupid. Not touching at all.

When I thought Dori is 23 y.o because he looks so young! Turns out he is 29 already! Gosh that gene of younger looking!

And honestly Haruka looks like 28 y.o. but indeed she looks really stunning and live up to her character ??

J Jing Jan 03 2020 2:30 pm well well.. this is the first j-drama i've seen in like 6 years lul. though there inst nothing rly special about it i rly enjoyed it overall. at the start it was kinda cringe. but after a while u get used to it. if i were to complain about something. would prob be the same plot that i hate. of everyone trying to fuck MC woman lol. like every manga like this one has a dude who steals fml kiss. or some dude who tries to rape her lol. sadly this inst a problem of this drama it's just a cliché they aways use anyway. overall i'd recommend it. it's rly a nice and cute story. xD

Now they are together and are both the main characters. I almost cried when i saw they made a series together.

Fran Sep 16 2019 1:09 pm Really refreshing to watch because I had just binged watched a bunch of the more innocent jdramas, including Good Morning Call lol. ? (The contrast in the characters tho!) This drama is a bit more mature which I like seeing... But it can be very cringey and unrealistic, but it's still a nice drama anyways. One big thing I really disliked about it was the reveal of Hiroto Fukami's "dark past"... Because there practically wasn't an actual reveal. I thought at the end it would make sense because its a key part in the story (seeing its said in the summary and all that) but there was nothing ?? Still the Anyways nice drama... Enjoyed watching it ?

You guys can say all you want about how she "gives" it up too fast and all of that bs but I honestly could care less cause this show has got me in my feelsssss! I have new respect for Dori - he is sexy as hell and I didn't know he could be like that. I have been wanting to see Haruka's wild side because she is just so damn innocent 24/7. Very refreshing to see her get a little freaky

Rona Aug 30 2019 7:43 pm Watched this drama in New Zealand Love the cast especially the main character's Yes Risa is portrayed as very innocent and naive but it's refreshing to see this point of view rather than an over reactive, indecisive all over the place female acting childish when trying to be cute (Korean drama females over act, Japanese females dont)

Love the pace of the story. It doesn't drag on and on and regardless of those with the morality issues I think its beautiful

In real life Dori wouldn't have any respect for her and would be gone in a flash or as soon as she got PG. Haruka's value is in her sweetness, innocence and faithfulness. Script has Dori looking like someone I'd like to punch out. Haruka spent years as Cooking Idol and also going around teaching little girls her Nameko dance. Now she is teaching her younger fans to give it up to the first wealthy, good looking guy who looks her way. Loved her in Koe Girl and Good Morning Call. I liked Annie Chen in Inborn Pair. She values herself so much she doesn't give it up until episode 81.

Also many Japanese, Chinese ,taiwanese ,indian, and thai dramas. But this drama is really beautiful and actors portraits their characters well. It reminds me of fifty shades of grey movie. It's not too rush. It's just a different story than u have usually watching. I really liked the male lead ,he's not only handsome but very talented in forming romance. It's just not showing the everyday life with comedy uncles , or friends which is using in Korean dramas for suit the drama for every kind of audiences. This drama is straight forwarding.I love this drama and highly recommended.

How can a girl be so naive ? the scenes supposed to be hot well i laughed. i like the actors but the scenario is dumb and unrealistic. Her very own idiot Aug 07 2019 12:44 pm So I watched my very first Japanese drama. Coffee and Vanilla, beautiful title, very unpredictable right? Turns out, this is a romance. A very weird romance between this extremely insecure girl and the direct antithesis of a man. They both fall in love and in what feels like seconds, they have sex(worthy mention: she was a virgin). I scream for them to stop, please, but they don't listen. This story is so cliché it feels original.

He acting is good in others drama. Haruka also not so bad, but I hate by the lead character. Can all the comic writers please make the woman so weakling and not confident with herself or at least make a character development. The drama version could be better if put non awkward lines.

Jen Aug 01 2019 1:20 am im gonna be straightforward: i hated this drama. i only watched so little of it, but i’ve already made up my mind. ive only just now realized my love and appreciation for slow burn types of romances. the romance depicted here is not only highly unlikely, but also very creepy and weird at times. if there was some 360 turn and the main dude was revealed to be a psychopathic murderer who seduced the female protag only to harvest her organs and sell them on the black market, my interest might’ve been piqued. it makes sense and could’ve very well happened and it could’ve salvaged whatever sense was made out of the drama but it didn’t. idk why these types of romances are fantasized/fetishized, they’re anything but desirable to me.

Arihant Jul 15 2019 2:34 am Just went through a few chapters of the Manga-am not sure how they will film it without breaking censorship rules regarding nudity.There is a LOT of it in the initial chapters.

The manga itself is quite addictive and I guess the live action format will incorporate some of the volumes and leave the rest for season 2

Judging from the picture above, I kind of have doubts about Sakurada Dori and Fukuhara Haruka but I've only made a judgement based on how they look. I have my hopes way too high for this live action as I loved the manga. I'll support this live action with all my heart.
