Naomi is an ordinary high school student who goes to an international school. One day, she loses her memory for the past 4 years. But gradually she begins to search for her identity, and even when her memory returns, she keeps on looking for her real self, and what she truly loves in life.

Crystal desu Oct 08 2021 3:43 pm I was honestly very satisfied with the ending! I became a fan of Yuya Tegoshi just yesterday, then I watched the movie this morning because I know that he was part of it. I don't understand why this movie was in Japan when the novel it was based on is Western, but Tegoshi's role fit there very well. Because I was predisposed to notice Tegoshi (Mirai Hasegawa), he didn't feel invisible to me which might have been the case to other viewers who felt like Mirai Hasegawa didn't have much of an impact. My receptors were basically sensing Yuya Tegoshi very well, so his role didn't feel less to me. He might be a nerd but he was still cool and cute. Ken'ichi Matsuyama did very well of course! It's funny that a Western storyline is being applied to Japanese people, but it unusually feel like it fits! There were a few instances where I was like, "No, they don't do that in Japan" which might be pretty arrogant of me. But the rest just felt natural. The thing though is this Ace Zuckerman. The moment he appeared in the movie, everything felt awkward. I didn't feel any significance in his role, like the story would still be the same even if he wasn't there. I mean, insignificant people do exist in our lives realistically, it's just that as an Asian, he acted way too American towards an Asian which felt weird, cringe, and awkward to me, like it made me thought less of the movie. I apologise for that. Some might feel offended about it.

From here onwards, there are spoilers. Other viewers may have thought that the girl was so in love with Yuji but that wasn't the case at all. Shortly after the middle of the movie, Naomi remembered Mirai Hasegawa and how their past relationship was like. From that part, Naomi acted a little bit strange. Yup! She may have not realized it but she was confused between Yuji and Mirai. Of course even if she was confused, it's only logical that she would stick to Yuji because that's the right thing to do.

AB Sep 22 2021 10:18 am This is a good film. It isn't perfect by any means, as sometimes the pacing is very slow and sometimes it's too rushed, but, overall, it isn't a big issue.

All of the characters have relatable emotion attached to them and fill a certain role, and the actors all fit their roles well. The acting isn't always perfect, but it's natural enough for the most part. Also, I'm not gay but Mirai is cute, the actor himself is not very cute but in this role, very cute.

Anybody who complains about the ending, does not understand the importance of character development for a good story to have the meaning it has. If Naomi was together with Yuji at the end, it would've been a tragic ending because of her inability to improve his depression. Furthermore, implicitly it's clear she was depressing him more. However, if she was together with Ace again at the end, then there wouldn't have been evolution in her character. Therefore, the only way happy ending, of course, is her being together with Mirai.

This film is recommended for everyone who wants to watch a drama with some comedy elements, and some subtle social commentary. I know attaching such a term to something like this is "giving it too much credit" but, really, there are the implications in the plot about how teenage love is ephemeral and fickle yet vital to the development of your own personality. This is made explicit near the end, when Naomi's father talks to her about the fading of memories with time. If you can ignore that as only relating to the plot of this film, you're not paying enough attention.

The most important factor to enjoy this film, of course, is that it's cute and full of the colours of life. It reflects beyond the youth it depicts. It's not a masterpiece, but it is very enjoyable and you will not waste your time watching it unless you watch it with the wrong frame of mind.

Tara Dec 07 2013 1:30 pm I am one of the few that have read the book, so to be fair seeing it like this was very weird for me seeing as in the book she does live in america and shes not asian. That being said that wasnt the issue for me. Although the cinematography was good, the story had not substance like I felt the book had. So it was disappointing but it was interesting to see it from a different point of view to say the least.

I thought she did that because she did not like what was happening between her and Mirai- she did not want to be romantically involved with him. I thought she said she did not feel anything when they kissed, and that she really had wanted to meet Yuji or something... If I'm wrong, then I totally need to rewatch this..

paperplane Apr 11 2011 12:20 am I just watched it. Pace a bit slow but I like the cinematography.I thought it was very nicely done.The story doesn't appeal to me much but an interesting watch nevertheless.

Then she remembered everything, but couldn't stop liking Yuji untill he left her. And in the end she remembered why she truly liked Mirai and then thay finally get together.;D well, sort of.;DD hopo I helped.;]

nins Sep 29 2010 2:20 pm I just watched this movie. It's amazing. I loved it~ Its so emotional and it really moves and flows as you watch. You get so into all of her relationships (maybe not so much Ace, but...) and the ending was okay for me too. The acting was amazing, esp from Yuya and Kenichi-san~~ I am going to read the book now : P
