Plot

It all started with football. Deok-hoon falls in love with In-ah who shares his love and passion for the sports. They quickly become lovers and he proposes. She refuses at first but they are eventually happily married. Marriage is like a dream until one day In-ah declares her wish to marry another man. She doesn’t want divorce as she loves Deok-hoon all the same, only change is that she loves the new man as much. Leaving Deok-hoon who finds himself unable to leave In-ah in the middle, she goes ahead and marries her new man. And so the bizarre bigamy begins.

roof top michel jackson Mar 04 2026 4:02 am Before watching this movie, I really liked Son Ye-jin’s work. However, after seeing this, I think it might be the worst movie ever. It was so weird that I can’t forget it. The husband character was a 'simp,' and the wife didn't care about his feelings at all.She was so selfish that it was actually cruel to watch. I truly regret watching this film. Now, whenever I see her, I can only think of this character, so I’ve stopped watching her work entirely. It was a very bad film and felt like complete torture

Sees that he's hurting and won't let him go or cut it off with the other guy. Then the final act, the two husband's reconcile and become friends. Sort of all over the place. But again, SYJ did the best she could with it. Her acting was phenomenal.

I wonder, will this movie receive so much hate if its vice versa? Like the male lead is the one who wanted to marry another, and his wife let it be.

kill me Oct 15 2020 12:32 pm (SPOILERS) This is probably the most fu*ked up movie ever. I love Son Yejin but this movie is just pure shit. I think this is the first time I dislike her projects. I watched it because she’s my crush despite all the negative comments about the movie. But oh boy I’m so mad with myself rn. I’m so regret watching it, wish I can erase it from my memory. All the characters here are just dumb and dumber. The movie is ridiculous from the beginning until end. I’m still pissed at the husband, the fact that he just allowed everything her wife wants, she slept with another guy and marrying him? That’s so messed up. And the ending, omfg I don’t know what to say. They all forget the past and decided to live together, both husbands sharing their wife and child? Pfftt This is so depressing.. I warn ya, don’t ever watch this unless you want a depression and anger. You will get annoyed throughout the film. Let’s just pretend that this movie never exist;)

The kid will grow up so confused with 2 dads and it is sick that she keeps sleeping with guys. This movie shows how cheating and have 2 spouse is so wrong/twisted. I feel sorry for the main leading guy who is such a nice, honest, loyal guy and suffering with his wife cheating/sleeping around.

hater number 1 Mar 30 2019 8:37 am this movie is so messed up. its glorified an abusive relationship. yes, the female protagonist is definitely an abuser and master manipulator. the moviemaker should probably set an example to run away from a wife like her, but it instead romanticize it. it created perfect example of someone in abusive relationship like the husband number 1. he knew it was wrong and she was wicked yet he cant leave because she control his way of thinking. she wont let him left her because thats what exactly every abuser did. at least the movie maker should make a horrible ending to a person like ju in-a. but no, shes got a happy ending and both her husband still foolishly love her (just like what usually abusive relationship's victims did). it was not a love story. it was a domestic violence story.

In fact, that was what I was expecting before I started it. But even when I mentally switched the genders, the movie still sucked on every level. Even if it was the husband was the one wanting two wives, to help hide it, demand obedience, etc etc, it would still have sucked. You can say that this is to show what women have endured etc. If that as the intent, I still feel it failed miserably. More so, even.

It tried for something. Some damning indictment of gender bias or perhaps a perverse wish-fulfillment. I don't know what the original goal was. But the end result was lost on me. I felt it was just a boring mess of a movie that seemed so divorced from reality that I honestly could not see the point of the effort. So I ended up not caring in the least about any character. At all. I didn't dislike or like any of them simply because none seemed real in any way. Even as allegory It just seemed a total and complete waste of time because it was so poorly written.

I got no problem with the message of almost any movie. I do, however, have a problem with poorly realized messages. And even more of a problem with poorly made movies. Of any topic or POV.

Maybe if it had actually touched on some honest emotions with believable dialogue. You can have utterly absurd premises come off as believable. If the exchanges are realistic, then even unrealistic situations can seem real. This didn't do that. Or much of anything, really.

"My Wife Got Married" is probably the worst excuse for a movie i've ever seen. The problem with this movie is that while it's trying to fight double standards it ends up being filled with double standards and fakeness itself and even ends up promoting adultery and cheating. The movie gave a picture of our society as a place where people celebrate men being unfaithful to their wives which is not how reality really is. The truth is that I don't know one person who actually think it's okay for men to cheat on their wives. Try asking yourself whether your father, mother, brother or anyone close to you actually think it's okay for a man to cheat on their wife? I bet the majority is against it no matter the gender. I've actually been noticing that nearly each time a man in a movie cheats on his wife he's portrayed as horny bastard while the wife is portrayed as a sweet wife who does everything right. While movies with cheating wives nearly always portray the wives as being neglected by their awful husbands. Now back to the movie itself and it's fakeness. In the midst of all this fakeness is the female protagonist In-ah with her fake innocent face. Her fake innocence and double standards are first seen - besides the times she comes home late at night drunk and fails to understand why her boyfriend is mad - when she's telling her (now) husband about the other guy she has been seeing and wants to marry. When her husband gets mad all she says is "why are you mad" like she does not know it. She then proceeds to say that she wants to keep it a secret from her parents so obviously she does know why he got mad... What follows really showed her true colors. When the guy left his ring at her apartment she follows him home and keeps on pressing on to him instead of just letting him go even going as far as telling him that he had to grant her wish of never leaving her while she still wants to marry another man (all this happens while she herself earlier in the movie had said that she belongs to no one and that if any one of them wanted out of the relationship they should be allowed to go). It's been a long time since I've seen a more selfish person than her. While she wanted her husband to understand her feelings she never once tried to understand or reason with her husband and everything had to go her way - a total narcissist. When their child is born she didn't even once try to understand how her husband felt and got angry when he wanted to know whether he was the father. The culmination of her selfishness came when the husband revealed everything to the families and she ran off to Spain with her child without telling her husband or anyone else. I wouldn't actually have cared about her cowardice and selfishness of running away from the mess RIGHTFULLY crashing down on her - since she herself had created it by her own selfishness - if it hadn't been for the fact that she actually kidnapped the daughter from the father. This fact is amazingly ignored in the movie and it just shows how bad this movie actually is - as if anyone would actually be okay with losing a child like that after going through so much pain of knowing whether he was the father or not. The male protagonist is a sorry excuse for a human being - but at least he admits it himself early in the movie when he says that he is a loser - and that's exactly how he came across. He came across as a pathetic person who couldn't stand up for himself and it was hard to feel any sympathy for him either because of how pathetic he was.

The message in this movie seems to be. 1: It's okay to cheat on your wife/husband. 2: It's okay live a double life tricking two families. (The family of the second husband was left to believe that the child was their family by blood.) 3: It's okay to run away with a child without telling the father. 4: It's okay to run away from the mess you created yourself. 5: If you follow 1-4 you will have a happy ending with two husbands.

The movie is labelled as comedy and romance but I felt neither was present in this movie. It was not funny neither did I feel any love between the leads. If it's considered love to be selfish and wanting everything your way not considering your partners feelings at all then this movie is full of love. My take on love is different though - The Classic and A Moment To Remember (in which Ye-jin Son stars) portray love much much better than this movie. It's a shame that she decided to star in this film because each time I remember one of the above-mentioned movies I'll always remember this film also and be put in a bad mood.

Here's what I got: 1) we're not supposed to actually sympathize with In-A, we're supposed to see her act like what is accepted from men (and even encouraged). It also shows how free women can be, and how men can find it threatening for their own "power": imagine how women feel, especially considering men's "hobbies". 2) the "wimpy" husbands are representative of all the equally "wimpy women" out there. See how one of the commentator here used the sexist "pussy whipped" to talk about the husbands and another said "weak cuckolds"? Well, that shows how these men acted like all the naive and stupid women who let men treat them like shit in relationships: very unexpected coming from men, indeed, but in lots of country, this naivete and "empathy" is expected from women; but now the roles are reversed, you see the extent of the humiliating things women seem ok to endure.

Still NOT a great movie, the premise was interesting but it's too fictional and romantic for my liking (I expected something more serious).

ace Oct 17 2014 2:34 pm I like the lead actress but that is about all I can say that is positive about this movie. While I like the actress, her character is pretty loathsome and almost evil in her mentality. The men are both the weakest of cuckolds. Aside from her being utterly loathsome and they being weak cuckolds, there really isn't much else to say except that it is quite boring on top of it all. By the end I was hoping for a tragic end to all 4 of the twisted family. Or 5 of them, if the baby-daddy is someone else she likes. I can see her at age 40 with 10 cuckold husbands trying to explain to them how she really loves them all but needs an 11th because the new one watches a drama that she likes and no one else will watch it with her.

Noha Apr 06 2014 7:02 pm I have never tolerated the idea of polygamy or men cheating on their wives or girlfriends in general. However, this movie takes the idea of polygamy to a whole new level. This is a truly sick movie. It makes you annoyed and irritated you from beginning to end. Son ye jin's character has absolutely no redeeming qualities and all her actions are childish and irrational, almost giving the idea that this woman is not a wholly sane person. It is a true waste of time and will absolutely ruin your mood, ahhh specially the ending that depicts the most illogical idea that they all managed to live happily ever after together. Human beings, no matter how forgiving or accepting they are don't have the emotional ability to tolerate this kind of relationships. So even if she was selfish enough, both her husbands would not be able to go with the flow for a long time, no matter how hard they tried. This is without even putting in consideration, the little baby that is supposed to grow with the idea that it is acceptable to have two dads in a relationship with her mom at the same time !!! Actors are good, story is simply scary and off putting.

Love makes one do stupid things and sadly a lot of people are that possessive and jealous. Ironic how love and hate can be so close together... Definitely refreshing!

Ki Feb 21 2009 2:25 pm “My Wife Got Married,” directed by Yun-su Jeong, sees itself as a smart contemporary take on modern relationships. Similar to the 2006 South Korean film “Love Now” (Saranghaneun Saramgwa Salgo Issumnika?), which is also directed by Yung-su Jeong, “My Wife Got Married” covers extramarital affairs but with an added twist. The woman wants and eventually gets to marry both men. That premise is likely to pique the interests of many and, if not, there’s also Ye-jin Son taking one more step away from her earlier image as the quintessential sweet & innocent girl and plays a take charge woman living with two husbands. Unfortunately, while the premise may grab the attention of many, the screenplay will lure just as many to sheer boredom.

In the movie, In-a Ju (played by Ye-jin Son) works as a high-level computer programmer. She’s intelligent, attractive, and views the world slightly different than your stereotypical gal. In-a loves soccer, drinking through the night, and she’s not afraid to express her sexual side. Her co-worker, Deok-hun (played by Ju-hyuk Kim), becomes swept away by her free-spirited ways and falls head over heels for her. In-a also finds herself falling in love with Deok-hun. Trouble first brews in their relationship when Deok-hun playfully proclaims “you’re mine”. As much as In-a loves Deok-hun she also loves her independence. Because of Deok-hun’s persistence he does finally persuade her to marry him.

Like a lot of marriages, In-a & Deok-hun’s marriage goes smoothly at first, but soon hits rough waters. From Deok-hun’s viewpoint, their relationship becomes stormier after In-a accepts a job transfer to another city. With this job arrangement, she spends her weekdays away from home and only visits Deok-hun on the weekends. Deok-hun finally starts to settle into this arrangement, before becoming blindsided by In-a’s latest proclamation. She’s in love with another man and wants to marry him, but also wants to stay married with Deok-hun.

Early on in the film, “My Wife Got Married” progresses in a manner reminiscent of the facade found in the fancier coffee shops in Korea. Modern, hip, influenced heavily by European decor, but upon closer inspection, you’ll find most of the decor laced with a haughty veneer covering-up its more modest building materials. And on that note, Ye-jin Son provides for an attractive facade to gaze at, but does little to bring substance to her character. Sure she talked liked a free-spirited modern day woman, but you certainly never believed she was that free-spirited modern day woman. Counter-part Ju-hyuk Kim portrays a man torn between his true love and his own ideas of a (traditional) relationship, but because of the poor script or his own remedial performance, comes across as a wimpy simpleton - or what others might call “pussy whipped.”

The movie languishes for a full hour and 20 minutes, until finally having something interesting to watch. When In-a becomes pregnant, the dynamics between the three persons are addressed in more detail. The 2nd husband also appears for the first time. How the two husbands will interact with each other brings up the intrigue factor temporarily. Although the possibilities were vast, the movie again settles for much ado about nothing. The 2nd husband comes across as a vanilla Mr. Nice Guy, ready to come out of the closet at any moment.

One thing that “My Wife Got Married” does get right, is to show in subtle ways the double standards held by some men in Korea. This is shown early on in the film through the actions of Deok-hun. In particular, Deok-hun is attracted to In-a’s sexy ways (sometimes not wearing a bra to work), but once firmly set in their relationship, he mentions his disdain for her dressing in that same manner and acts surprised by her sexual candor. Like the much better 2006 film “Bewitching Attraction” (starring So-ri Moon), “My Wife Got Married” also attempts to turn the tables on the stereotypical Korean relationship. Specifically, the way men fraternize with their co-workers through the night, perhaps meeting other ladies along the way, and then going home to their waiting wife.

While, “My Wife Got Married” will attract attention because of its controversial premise, the film itself usually opts for the safe road rather than anything really controversial. Casting leaves something to be desired, with Ye-jin Son unable to flesh out her complex character and the two men lacking any backbone. After watching Yun-su Jeong’s equally bad “Love Now” and now “My Wife Got Married” I hope I won’t have to watch anymore of his movies anytime soon. Rather than “My Wife Got Married” if you want something in the same ballpark but infinitely more entertaining check out “Bewitching Attraction” (Yeogyosu-ui eunmilhan maeryeok).
