Ryoko (Seiko Ando) is a 34-year-old woman living in the suburbs of a provincial city. She lives with her husband Tadashi (Junya Tanaka), elementary school aged son Hiroshi (Yume Sugio) and mother-in-law Kazuko (Noriko Takada). Her husband is a painter. Ryoko's family looks like an ideal family from afar, but Ryoko is miserable due to her physically abusive husband. Tadashi has lost his desire to create. He sells a forged painting to man who is like a yakuza. Ryoko is also not comfortable with her mother-in-law Kazuko and she only connects emotionally with her son Hiroshi. One day, Tadashi dies in by an accident.
