Basically, the 'ka' (課) itself means department. The translator translated it as 'Department of Metropolitan Police Department' because it translated everything except for the 'nashigoren' (ナシゴレン) part just because it doesn't know how to translate that word (well, it's not a japanese word anyway). Who knows why they use Nasi Goreng as the name. Maybe because they just want to be funny, or maybe because different type of people/personalities mixed into one department, or maybe both. Nasi Goreng is basically a dish that you mix different ingredients, fry them and the dish becomes delicious lol. kurage Dec 19 2016 7:46 am Nasi Goreng (fried rice) is basically the term used by South East Asian countries that share similar language root ie. Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and perhaps Brunei. It is imprudent to say that this dish or term belongs exclusively to one country only. It's translated as "Fried Rice" in English. This sitcom is unrelated to "Nasi Goreng" aka fried rice. Why the production team calls it Nasi Goreng division.
