Ju Ga-Ram (Yoon Kye-Sang) used to be a rugby player who was the hope for Korean rugby. He had talent and star potential, but a drug scandal ruined everything. All of the sports media covered his drug scandal. He retired from the sport under the stigma of a drug addict. 3 years later, he returns as a contract coach for the high school rugby team where he once played for. The high school rugby team is the weakest team in its league. As a coach, Ju Ga-Ram shows unrivaled charisma and an uncompromising leadership ability. He also reunites with his ex-girlfriend Bae I-Ji (Lim Se-Mi), who is a shooting coach at the same high school. They dated for 10 years, but, after his drug scandal, Ju Ga-Ram disappeared. Now, they reunite again while working at the same high school.

Meanwhile, the rugby team has 7 players including its captain Yoon Seong-Jun (Kim Yo-Han). Yoon Seong-Jun is in the 3rd year of high school. He has a twin brother who is a member of the junior national soccer team. Yoon Seong-Jun also played soccer in the past, but he switched to rugby due to his lack of talent. He is twisted by envy and feels inferior toward people with talent. Yet, Yoon Seong-Jun is a hard-working person who wants to be recognized in sports.

hihihello Jan 19 2026 9:29 am I loooooooove this drama so much! This drama is very heartwarming, encouraging, and has a balanced humor as well. I love all the actors and actresses, especially Yoon Kyesang. He truly made Garam's character alive. I've watched The Outlaws, The Frog, and UDT where he also nailed his role. However, in this drama it seems so natural. The school, the rugby players, the other students, the coaches and staff, they seem very familiar. I truly love the natural side of this drama. Not forget to mention all the lessons and insights (teamwork, honesty & integrity, trust, etc).

I understand some people might want to see the rugby players more, but I love how this drama also focuses on the main lead (Garam)'s past & people around him (love the 'old' Hanyang team and their chant is so funny lol).

All in all, this drama is truly a superb sport drama packed with valuable lessons (get your tissue ready!) and great acting & storyline. Hope the younger actors will get more projects.

I'd give it 10/10!

Love this limited series! I enjoyed it so much. Wishing for Season 2 with more players since 12 episode's quite short.

Li Oct 27 2025 2:21 pm It's a kdrama that, with its virtues and flaws (or being a mega-viral hit), has captured my heart. I understand those who criticize Iji for being a very weak-willed person. I also understand that she did her best to endure a hostile professional environment, doing what she loved, while also trying to save her relationship with the man she always loved.We're left wanting more scenes of team camaraderie. And therefore, the script, which includes the internal conflicts between managers and teachers, or the typical plots of meddling parents, took away time from those who really mattered: the handsome, young U19 players on the rugby team. Still, Yoon Kyesang was incredible as Ju Garam, the former rugby prodigy reborn as a coach.

I also understand that 12 episodes fell short in terms of developing the rugby team's athletic growth.

A possible second season might be difficult, but we're definitely eager to see the rugby players grow, even more so as the prospect of more new players emerging or potentially joining the national rugby team opens up.

It seems as in many Kdramas, that in South Korea, is still difficult to get ahead without connections. She had none, per se. The Shooting Team male head coach was a bully brown noser, and she was intimidated by him, and came across weak, to keep her job. But the end proved her strong and able! This actress is very pretty and very good actress!

Exciting! Definitely one if the best Kdramas I’ve seen, and I’ve seen over 147 of them. Heck I live in Miami, Florida, USA and as of two years back, I watch 80% of Kdramas and 20% American and British programs or movies. This series was very heartwarming, I which it had even more episodes. Yes! I too hope for a season 2 if possible. Yoon Kye Sang is an excellent actor! Very versatile and very good looking! Every one of the Rugby players are very good actors! Great cast! Not one bad performance! Beautiful!

Tiara Sep 01 2025 5:17 am I just finished The Winning Try and honestly, I didn’t expect to enjoy it this much. It’s funny in all the right ways, but also surprisingly heartfelt and emotional. The balance between comedy and touching moments kept me hooked the entire time. I ended up finishing the whole series in just two days because it was THAT engaging. The cast has great chemistry, and the story feels both entertaining and meaningful. I really hope they make a season 2, because I’d love to see more of these characters and where their journey goes next!!!!!

I am not a rugby fan so I do not know a lot about the rules, and I don't even have the slightest expertise to comment on it. But in terms of story, I enjoy it! It's a feel good drama. It's something that makes me excited for another week. So please give it a try! It's definitely worth watching!

And I have to say this... I've never been a Kim Yo Han fan, but this drama made me one! Yoon Kye Sang is of course fantastic as always.

Boo Aug 15 2025 3:11 am It was good in the beginning, not outstanding, but enjoyable. I'm half past through and I think it was enough. I'm out. Yoon Kye-Sang is a great actor and his character is well written, his story-line with the rugby, with the students, with his illness and his past is interesting. It could be better, if they focus on more about the students and their problems. But okay, we get what we get.

My problem is Bae I-Ji's character and the whole shooting team. They're there but not enoughly. There are not so significant. No tension, no lively dialogues. That story-line is so boring that I literally suffering when I have to watch those scenes. And how the hell is that the vice principal has more power than the principal. I get he will be next year the principal, but now is not the case. So yeah, it just not good enough to me to watch the whole show.

It's not worth it, to be honest.

She did not rig the match on purpose and it is either the conversation before with the senior that affected her mentally or like she have not revealed the reason.

She needs the job as a backup plan and also a place to practice so she can go for the nationals comp.

Also since when did she search for Ju Garam mind you it was a 10 year relationship do you think you can easily get someone out of your head that easily? If any, it was Ju Garam really being a dick to not let Iji know about his sickness and suffering, do you think so little of a woman who has been by your side for 10 years???

Yes he is poor think but that is no excuse for ghosting someone like that, thats pure misery and torture than ending things.
