Da-Da works as a special effects make-up artist. Due to a scar of love, she has a cold heart. She has a humanoid robot Young-Goo programmed to be the perfect boyfriend to her. Popular actor Ma Wang-Joon appears in front of her and he has feelings for her. Da-Da gets involved in a love triangle with Young-Goo and Ma Wang-Joon.

Nono Mar 27 2026 12:30 am Overall I cannot say it's great but it's a fun story, just enjoying the cheesy romance.

Just to answer some points below

About robot saliva, kissing and etc. - I think from episode 1 it is implied that the robot have R18+ function. So kissing and sx, he can do it.
About having kids - To each it's own, some people don't really pursue that path like nuns and priest. Some just don't like it.
About 7 years relationship - Even long time married couple can brake up and got divorce. Even some have 10 yrs 20 yrs relationship.
About FL and 2ML love - Is not strong or it's already weaken by 7 years. When they broke up, the FL said that the looks in 2ML eyes is sincere about wanting to break up (Even, 2ML admitted it)
About 3 years waiting for ML - The FL stayed 7 years for 2ML, she is just that type i guess.
About the Friend encouraging the robot ove - Yes, It's crazy (in real life it's a big no) !!!

Warren Mar 17 2025 11:45 pm There's a number of things to hate about this show. First, a robot that doesn't feel pain externally but can "feel" his chest hurting? Second, the robot's constant eerie smile is so creepy, notwithstanding the fact that he/it is supposed to be a dating companion. Third, Da-da is so smitten by a robot that (1) she discounts the fact she can never have a family in the future (no kids) and she'll age while the robot remains forever looking young (2) she easily got swayed by his rescues and constant efforts to please her, never really giving any thoughts to how her ex-BF Wang-jun bailed her out of trouble a number of times and even went to help her when her robot is failing/"dying" (3) she practically discarded 7 years of relationship with Wang-jun for a robot she met for just a few weeks (4) she doesn't even realize that the robot's saliva is actually some kind of mechanical fluid and she kisses him all the time (how gross is that). She even throws away money for food to pretend he is having meals/drinks with her. And for 3 years, she hasn't moved on after the robot had a meltdown. She didn't even consider the other male lead still cares for her a lot and has sacrificed so much for her sake and has admitted that he is not perfect and has made mistakes. Sheeesshhh, what a nutjob she is. lastly, how the heck can a robot whose internal parts have broken down / melted revive on its own? Really awful story and twists. So many bad elements, poor subplots, fast attitude change (Kyu-ri not happy Da-da is dating a robot but changes her mind after the robot stands "guard" at the hole of their window to prevent mosquitoes flying in??? So shallow). Da-da is pretty, clever, strong-willed and very independent, yet I can't fathom why the heck she would prefer a robot who keeps on calling her Girlfriend because of some programming over someone she has spent years developing a relationship. Even if they never rekindle their love again, she could at least have found someone over the last 3 years, right? Even her friends and the software engineer who encourage her to pursue a relationship with a machine are twisted (no sane person would encourage someone to marry a machine). No wonder this show has a very low rating from start to finish.

A pity because the story was promising and the first 2-3 episodes confirmed this. But then, a barrage of boring, slow and unmoving episodes. At least, an ideal TV series to watch when you struggle to fall asleep at night.

I was bawling my eyes out like crazy crying over the robot being sick and about to leave. I never comment on anything that I watch but this time I would.

I agree with some comments that the story line, the script is cheesy and cringey at first. But I dont know why I was so affected at the end.

This is my 15th Kdrama since 2023, and I never cried like this before with any drama. This is not my favorite but definitely made me cry the most.

Btw Bang Min Ah is a good actress, which was a surprise for me. I only know her being a member of a girl group. Didn't even know that she has acting gigs.

Leah Sep 21 2022 11:00 am I tried to watch this for Yeo Jin Goo, but gave up after a few episodes.

The acting, the cast chemistry, the dialogues, the cinematography, the direction, none of it is good or stands out in particular. There has be to atleast something besides pure loyalty to cast or character that draws you in and keeps you watching a drama, especially when it is remake of a popular comic and drama that you already know the basic story of.

Perhaps little kids would enjoy it, or those who have never watched a robot story before, it is so embarrassingly cringy, I do not know.

A waste of talent.

If you want to really watch this plot, it’s better to view the original Japanese version. All of the foreign remakes have huge failings.

I'm not use to seeing these on the hulu streaming service. I'm used to seeing these kinds of series on Netflix, so I was surprised I had seen it on hulu. Maybe that's why it didn't get watched as much as other shows, cause it was on a streaming service that I never see Korean series on. Try To Change To Netflix And It Will Probably Get Watched More. It came out in 2019 and I am just coming across it in this month, December 202. I only have 8 episodes left and don't want it to end. So please bring back season 2. It's a must!!!

Jerrome Oct 20 2021 11:57 am I was significantly impressed with the portrayal of the frailties, weaknesses of human beings altogether. Am not sure whether it was the intention when writing this drama but it impressed me with the rehearsals of human nature, not typically in the big and out there stand-out ways but in the minuscule moments. It is quite capturing in a mind opening way, the more you pay attention to it. I would recommend it but don't just watch it once, watch it again coz there's a lot to be missed if you don't pay attention. Waiting for possibilities of season 2,tho it's kinda late to b hoping.

Heyena Mar 31 2021 6:38 am Wow...surprisingly, once I got through episodes 13 and 14, the flow came back to becoming natural (like the episodes before 13) where you just get to enjoy what is happening without stressing too much over things (there were still awkward transitions and all but they can be overlooked unlike the anticlimatic major turning point in 13 and the dragging events of 14)...I’m in episode 17 now (3 episodes left before ending) and the sad part which we all know is inevitable is now starting to happen and I need to brace myself before continuing...

This drama may not have that strong cohesiveness of a screenplay but the plot is interesting and the scenes are enjoyable, which is understandable because the plot is very otherworldly. You don’t know how many times I’ve laughed within the 10 episodes I’ve watched, Yeo Jin Goo just does such a great job I’m amazed - his visuals have also gone through the roof.

At first, I don't wanna watch it because I don't like the face of male lead but as the episode goes by, I noticed that he has great acting skill and he is getting handsome every episode haha..( I might watch all of his drama hahaha)

Highly recommended! Believe me, I have watched a lot of kdramas and this drama makes you fall in love, laugh and cry at the same time.

Lastly, I also like how smooth the story line. Feel good drama.

Lilo So Nov 24 2020 12:16 pm Since I recently finished watching this I am here again. I guess you already read my first comment and I'll drop my honest review again in this kdrama. Just dont mind my wrong grammar hahaha. At the first episodes I laughed so hard with yeong gu and dada they were so funny and I got second leading man syndrome with wang jun huhu. I wondered and was really curious what would happend between yeong gu and dada at the end that's why I finished this. But to be honest I think 13 or 15 to 19 episodes it became boring and became really really cringed . The two last episodes 19 and 20 I had skipped some scenes, most of it is when dada was reminiscing her moments with yeong gugu haha. I wondered why this drama reached 20 episodes?? It could be better and didn't become boring if its just 16 episodes. Never mind.

I was really hoping that the ending could be a reality.  I mean if yeong gu was gone,  dada and wang jun could start over again and become friends. The ending was okay but still mysterious. Yeong gu was not functioning but it shown that he moved his thumb finger.  And at the last scene the guy who brought the green umbrella I was hoping it was Wang Jun. Because that green umbrella was shown inside his car.

I still love this drama because it has a unique plot and all the casts especially the main casts did a great job. I gave 8.5/10. It impossible to have season 2 because they already released the 20 episodes.

Lilo So Nov 19 2020 12:03 pm Even tho I always curious with this kdrama because the plot is interesting and I love jin-goo's acting and i have a little bit crush with jong hyun oppa I thought it will be boring coz I have read some negatives reviews.. But I was wrong it turned out it was worthy to watch.

All the cast did a great job portraying their roles. Yeo jin-goo never disappointed me on his acting, he acted like different person everytime I watch him in different kdrama. Seriously he is underrated , he deserves to be known, to be popular. He such a versatile actor. His character here was really cute but sometimes I felt cringe because of his sweetness hahaha, however it seemed a part of acting as well. It's hard to choose between Yeong-gu and wang joon huhu coz I like both of them.

I wasn't familiar with Bang Min-Ah so I was a bit surprised when I found out she was former member of Girl's day. I couldn't see her as an Idol rather I see her as an actress. She really belong to be an actress. Even tho it was my first time to watch her I could say she really did a great job portraying her character. I like her. Her emotions was on Point in MAB. She is pretty too. For me she and jonghyun oppa looked like a cute couople. I'm looking forward to her more upcoming kdrama/film.

All in all It was great and also I would like to mentiondiana and nam bo won. These two are amazing actors. Hoping for seo young to become a lead actress in the future. She is a great actress too.

All who are living in this world been make this most recommended k drama, I heard some people that it was so gross, kissing on robots who was made by wire and metal, no they didn't even know what is it internally, what is the meaning and realization after watching this, That we must spread love to overcome the hatred of this world and it's manner, what young gu did? He just make da da feel love and blot out the miserable experiences and hatred in her heart, young gu represent as our goal our status in community, in everywhere even in your family, even at your relationship. It is timely and life changing story, It really cried me a lot, every night I feel emotional, and but then after it reminds me that every people has value, I remember what young gu said " I realize that good memories is not about how you want to do it or create it, memories create by itself, and that is called precious moments," it gaves us a lesson and presicely bringing the love and it is timely, right now we face crisis, and don't you know people will get calm cuz, they're get refill and one of this drama contributes to them!!

I hope you'll make season two with the same actor and I know some people right now wants to have da da a happy ending, so please sbs entertainment and production team, I know you always this in your heart " we make this drama not just to earn a practically need in the industry, but we do this because we want you to make feel and filled you with love..

This made me cry so much and I became emotionally unstable for two days because of how much I liked the plot. The ending was fine for me. Thanks to the Producer, to the lead actor n actress Yeo Jin-Goo and Bang Min-Ah for entertaining such an amazing Series, i hope u will make more amazing Series like this in future. I just love this Series n i am going to watch again and again. I may not able to meet u all but i hope one day God will bless me to born in Korea. If i could go and meet u all then sure i would come to Korea. I love u Eom da da and Young Goo and the entire team of Absolute Boyfriend. Die hard fan of Eom da da and Young Goo.

Angela Jul 27 2019 6:59 pm I'm not completely finished with the drama, but I have some critics/questions -The writer made Eom Da-Da (Bang Min-ah) out to be a stuck up person. How is she just going to throw away her relationship of 7 years. She has a quick temper and doesn't give Ma Wang-Joon (Hong Jong-Hyun) a chance to clear things up. She just yells and then leaves in a blinding fury. She even yells at Young-Goo (Yeo Jin Goo) for waiting at the dock. TT I find her character very frustrating. This is totally not the actress' fault, mostly the writer.

-Is it just me, or does Ma Wang-Joon seem like a better lead? All he does is try to protect her. She'd probably be in grave danger if she knew about the stalker.

-Also, I don't think that Da-Da can have a lasting relationship with Young-Goo. Yes, his character is adorably cute, but how long will that charade last. After a while, wouldn't Da-Da yearn for some real affection? All of Young-Goo's thought and actions are things that he's programmed to do. On the other hand, his process of learning is similar to that of a young child, so maybe he could learn the ways of us humans and how to feel emotions like anger etc.

How can they love each other, curious about the ending or what happened to the robot in the end because most of drama between human and robot are not fantasy which in the end the robot will turn into human. I start with watching this drama and it was soo good. All feeling mixed together. I can understand so much the pain that the robot held even tho it was not human. This was a good start. I'm going to watch Are you human too and I'm not a robot. This drama is amazing and of course I wish for season 2 !!!!!

The reasons of Ma Wang-Joon breaking things with Eom Da-Da was lame he has the Money to hire a private investigator or even a bodyguard but he did not none of done what worst he put his own girlfriend in an embarrassing situation. I understand Da-Da's bitterness but am so deeply disturb how can she move on so easily it was Seven F*cking Years Relationship she just move within a week. It doesn't make any sense I know this drama was made to be a fiction but seriously I hate the Writer making it look like Seven Years Relationship is just Nothing.

This persons Hwang In-Hyuk, Ran & Young-Goo was the reason Diana was drove into a mental breakdown I know shes bad honestly her story is way more interesting than the Protagonist. Because of Diana the story got more interesting again I know shes bad but that's not how I see here. I hope the Writer would do a Diana spin off story am sure it will boast more rating that this lame drama. The Real Villains of the story are Geum Eun-Dong & Hwang In-Hyuk <----- specially this dude I refuse to believe he change cause old habits die hard if I were Nam Bo-Won I would not forgave him.

I kinda believe young gu is dead and the man at the end was indeed wang joon. BUT he seems shorter than wang joon and the showed us several pics of dada and young gu romantic moment at the end. 4. stil if it was young gu, it doesnt make sense and seems forced 5. so perhaps, despite all the doubts. it was indeed wang joon. and they are going to america together (notice dada was holding 2 big bags) 6. wang joon and dada all the way!

The main girl did not accidentally received the robot but actually agreed to do trial for this lover doll because she badly wants a boyfriend. I think that the manga is really good and read it so many times.

Here, not only they changed the setting, they changed almost everything.

Well, it’s fine to change some parts to give that own-version taste and make the story better. However, here, they just made it worse. I don’t know if many will agree but the girl playing Da-Da sucks at acting. Not just that, her script sucks as well. I wonder how did she managed to have 09 be so in love with her to even have his circuits turning to some malfunctions. Another is the existence of Diana. I think that Diana is not even needed for this story because there’s already a problem of a human falling in love with a robot. Is it only to show one treats the robot like a toy and another treats it as a human? I know that sucks but it really happen in real life. Also, I don’t understand this In-Hyuk guy who seemingly betraying his company without any reason. Can someone please enlighten me why he needs more lines than it should be? Next is that I don’t understand if Wang Joon is really a top-caliber actor or not. He seems to have a lot free time even if he claims he is busy. Seriously, the drama shows that he either stalks Da-Da or think a lot in his home. And it seems that he is only doing one thing— shooting AlphaGo and no more. Next is that many of the cast seems to be new in acting and they suck big time.

The truth is that this drama sucks in a lot of ways. There are much more to say. I don’t know why I still watch it though. Is it just a guilty pleasure? Thirst for curiosity? Or just a hope that there will be a happy ending for their story despite the manga concluded it to be tragic?

Either way, I just hope that Korea won’t make any more adaptations of the manga that will ruin it. This is not their first time doing so.

As in this drama, it can and will malfunction to the detriment of mankind. That being said, I will continue to watch as I like the actress Bang Min-Ah. The rest of the cast is pretty good as well.

They change the story and makes it complicated. Anyhow, I'll watch till the end since different story line and curious to know what will happen in each episode.

Often, the 2nd type actors are very successful because all what many drama's viewers are looking for is a pretty face and muscular body. That's enough for them to call a 2nd type actor a good/great one. 2nd type actors can easily be recognized not only because they can't express feelings but also by the great number of dramas per year(not investing their own emotions they don't need time to leave the role so they'll quickly jump to other one)

However, I just think this drama does not give justice to JinGoo's acting skills. The same can be said for Jonghyun since I watched him in Scarlet Heart. This drama limits JG's acting range and I hope he chooses his projects well in the future. He will be in another drama this year so looking forward to that.

Her thinking that he is always there for her? Puhlease. Too much there and he can’t fell pain so of course he’s always “saving” her. Like a dumb jock on steroids. Plus Wang Joon is sooo hot! You can also tell that he really loves her and had to break up with her because of some psycho. There are far too many scenes with ‘robot” (who seems far too dumb human than high tech) and not enough of Wang Joon.

For the people who know Absolute Boyfriend already (be it from another drama or the Manga), it probably won't be disappointing. For the people who are new to the storyline, it is still a joy to watch and really entertaining throughout.

Good actors, good script, and more than perfect moments that make your heart beat faster are just a few of the things defining this drama so far.

10/10 never felt the need to skip a scene from boredom. You should totally give it a shot if you have time!

Can't believe there's so many negative comments about Minah just because the two male leads are attractive and has an already established acting career plus fanbase. Minah is not the generic Korean standard of pretty but if you guys weren't so caught up in petty things like appearances, you'll find that her character is incredibly down to earth, relatable and likeable. Honestly disappointed that people these days are so shallow, judging how well actors act based on appearances and trying to excuse their hate by saying 'she's a bad actress'. Grow up.

The 1st and 2nd episodes seem like things are happening in a totally different universe, however, the 3rd and 4th feels more familiar with little tweaks here and there. The main leads didn't disappoint me at all with their acting considering it is a comedy. In fact, I'm actually amazed by the female's acting. In serious scenes, she actually nailed it. I can't believe she is a former idol. Can't wait for more.

Shinz May 19 2019 10:40 pm Thumbs up for this drama. The casts was so good that I'm in tears without knowing. I'm fond of Min-ah's acting since I watched her from "Beautiful Gong Shim". I cried and I laughed so hard with that drama too. She is a natural in RomCom. And as a fan of Yeo Jin-Goo, this is his second drama from "Orange Marmalade" that are not from Joseon dynasty that I've watched and he never fails me from his acting, so superb! He is so good in different genre. For me, you must watch "The Crowned Clown" I rated it 10/10 and a Best Actor award goes to Yeo Jin-Goo. ❤???

vicky May 19 2019 1:16 pm first few episodes were pretty good! jonghyun and yeo jin goo steal the show for me by far (idk why but why am i rooting for jonghyun?! is he that handsome i'm just forgetting how awful this character behaved??) but minah is doing okay (i was kinda of scared to start the show bc i remember not liking her acting in other dramas), i hope her character will have much more dimension tho, i hate the stereotype they have set up for eom da-da as it's extremely repetitive in drama's and outdated, especially with several robot drama's airing in over a year i hope this show manages to pull off something unique and capativating through out all 20 episodes. I think the fact that eom da-da is a special effects artist really helped the first 4 episodes as it's a very interesting job that hasn't been seen that much as job for a main character (as far as I've seen at least), I will be checking out the next few episodes for sure!

truefeather77 May 17 2019 9:31 am I agree with some others. I love the lead, Yeo Jin-Goo, but the girl drops the ball whenever she gets it. I'll continue to watch only for him, which is true of any project that has the wisdom to cast him.

There's a nasty female stereotype that appears in Korean dramas with few exceptions. The young women are dumb, whiny, and prone to wide open-mouthed wailing, which is as offensive as it is boring and outdated. Some female actors manage to rise above it a little, but not this one.

Yeo Jin-Goo, though, is really making this character fly -- the great look when he was just awakened gave me chills, because he really looked like an android! The hilarious "test", his first adventure in the outside world when, with just a wink and a smile, he melted the hearts of the female population. (Particularly the hilarious ketchup-lady.) Good choice in casting, especially as he was not the first one they chose!

I also love Hong Jong-Hyun in anything I've seen him in, so I'm hoping as the episodes unfold he will continue to be interesting.

They honestly could have casted someone better. I’m only barely holding on to this drama bc of Yeo Jin-Goo lol praying her acting gets better but I don’t think it will. Such a waste, love the manga and Yeo Jin-Goo but they couldn’t cast someone who’s acting is on par with his is annoying tbh lol.

mell May 05 2019 7:24 am I have read ZEttai Kareshi many years ago and totally fell in love with the story and the characters. Night Tenjo was the perfect boyfriend, but what made him so was not how he was programmed but the fact that he started to feel as a child all the emotions around him and started to think and feel. He fell in love with Riiko, he protected her and cared for her until his inevitable death. Night was what I wanted in a boyfriend, a bit of clumsiness, ingenuity, badassness, sensibility and love a lot of love. I think that YJG is perfect for this role, he's not only cute, but can be sexy if he wants and plays very well the part of the ingenue when he wants. After watching The crowned clown I totally fell for his talent. Looks are not everything, Night needs to let you feel his awkward, selfless, caring heart, YJG will be awesome.

Last October 5, 2009. I reopened my account in aznv.tv a private website for Asiandrama, after for so many years I haven't visited that site, I observe that the site added a lot of shows there, and the titles of the shows are already arrange alphabetically, then I saw the letter Z, then I said to my self "Z? is there a drama title that start with that letter?" then I click the letter to find it out. that time it's only Zettai Kareshi drama save in letter Z, then I get curios "what was this drama about" after I read the plot, I just found my self watching the drama from episode 1 to 12. I enjoyed the drama a lot and cried the story. After watching it I said to my self "I'm happy that I found this drama" I'm sure this drama will be discovered by Taiwan and South Korea. I hope they filmed this drama. And I was not mistaken 2 years later Taiwan Remake this drama Starring Jiro Wang and Korean actress Koo Hye Sun. then also this year. Finally Korea Remake this drama..

He is way better from Yeo Jingoo in terms of being an "absolute" robot-boyfriend. He has the looks and body, also the "plain" face expression and voice of a robot. I hope the director rethinks about the roles. Because I dont want the Korean version to be a let down since I really really loves the Japanese original and Taiwan version.

LuLu Apr 04 2019 1:57 pm Finally! Jesus! This has been delayed for so long and dates have been rescheduled so many times! I am a fan of Zettai Kareshi. Albeit, had average acting and very cheesy scenes, but it does align in the rom-com style of Japanese dramas, so it's forgivable. It did have its good moments though.

Honestly, I'm both excited and nervous for this dramas release. This could end up becoming a good remake, like Liar Game, or a terrible one, like Boys Over Flowers. The original story has really good elements in it that could create a very nice subtle rom-com/melodrama combination. With a bit of good writing and great cast of actors, this could turn out to be a really good Korean remake.

Jin Goo’s last drama Reunited Worlds was all over the place in terms of story telling and general acting so I hope his new dramas this year make up for it and are stellar like tvn’s Circle. I haven’t read the manga, but I have seen the Taiwanese remake of this story and it was absolutely terrible in terms of script. The recent kdrama Are You Human Too that dealt with a robot love story epically failed as well in its script. I really hope they don’t make the same mistakes in this one and not have their human characters act like foolish idiots or unnecessarily evil just in order to humanise and gain sympathy points for the robot character. Choosing to fall in love with a robot and valuing it over real human life is not a rational thing to do. And I’d very much like sensible a female lead. I hope they go somewhat the route that the British drama Humans has with its development of conscious robots that is not bound by its limits of engineered AI. And the struggle that comes with proving to be treated with same rights as humans... only then would a love line between this robot and our female lead make some sense: deception, healthy reservation, and finally a plunge of faith, whatever the ending may be.

Night tenjo (type zero-one, btw) was my high school crush omg XD i really hope they'll portray him well, and not as a super naive robot or something like in other versions T.T i hope to see the scene where Night (zero nine for this case) crushes the ring that processes emotions. Looking forward to see hong jong hyun play a non-evil character! He got me scarred from Scarlet Heart. I hope this drama becomes a success & give Yuu Watase's manga justice
