Plot
Set in 1997 in a small city in northern China, a man named Qiu Wu is sentenced to death for stealing two cars. The judge residing over his case recently lost his daughter in a traffic accident - involving a stolen car. A change in the law now allows Qiu Wu to possibly avoid execution. To help his cause, Qiu Wu offers to donate one of his kidneys to an ailing rich businessman. The rich businessman discovers the only way to secure Qiu Wu's kidney is if he is executed. The judge must now reconsider the case based on the change in law ...
