This is evidenced in the her use of metaphors, imagery, symbols, mirror-parallels, idioms, and words. In Valid Love, the word-image of strong wind (Korean connotation for affair) and IR struggling without success to shut to windows is used to depict her affair and inability to control it. Among other symbols employed include the hammer and apple. Mirror-parallels were used to depict how KY became HT, IR forgot her husband like MIL, and IR was living and breathing like HS. Most of Ms Kim's narrative are largely about love, marriage, and family and she writes beautifully on these themes. For those interested in this topic, I'd like to suggest them reading "Love as a story" a text on the psychology of love written by Robert Steinberg previously a very distinguished professor at Yale. Bob is one of the foremost researchers of intelligence who "wandered" and wondered into/about love. Boon Ang Jul 20 2015 7:29 pm Although I have yet to watch all of Kim Do Woo's written dramas, I must laud her for being one of the best Kdrama script writers, especially Valid Love. Like Me Too Flower and My Name is Kim Sam Soon, her characters are presented as multi-layered/dimensional people experiencing crises and growth. This leif motief, together with other psychological troupes has its basis in analytic psychology of Freud, Jung, and Erikson. In addition to these psycho-social developmental troupes, she has also employed others like dementia, depression, co-dependence (in Valid Love). Another leif motif she likes to employ is food as a symbol of love and cooking/feeding as an expression of love. This is in sync with cultural restraints of the overt expression of love, the fact that non-verbal expressions of love tend to be better ways to communicate, and too many meaningless words of "I love you". This is very evident in Valid Love where the female lead IR cooks up elaborate meals for her betrayed husband and keeps asking him if he has eaten. When her refuses to make up with her, she suffers malnutrition, like the female lead in Me Too Flower. In Valid Love, IR asks herself if she has been "too greedy" in desiring husband and "boyfriend". The symbolism is even more vividly contrasted by the fact that she cooked curry once for her boyfriend whereas he cooks her ramen most of the time and their meals together tend too be very basic.
