In 1991, two children were kidnapped. One of the two kidnapped children was found safe, but the other child remained missing. Three years later, the missing child suddenly appears at his grandparents' home. The child doesn't say anything about what happened during the past 3 years. The kidnapping case goes unsolved and, eventually, the statute of limitations expires. Jiro Monden (Hidetoshi Nishijima) is a newspaper reporter. When the kidnapping case took place in 1991, he covered the story and reported on the police. 30 years later, Jiro Monden once again investigates the kidnapping case due to the death of a detective he knew.
