People face their fears hidden in their everyday life and their fears become part of their routine. Hyun-Jung (Choi Ji-Woo) is a woman unable to smile. Hyun-Soo (Lee Yoo-Mi) is looking for a job and she wants to have a relationship. Hoon (Minho) is a lonely university student. Ki-Jin (P.O) gives up on getting a job and he is in a shameless romance. Yeon-Jin (Ha Da-In) is working part-time at a convenience store and she hates people. Seung-Jin (Jung Dong-Won) is a middle school student who dreams of becoming a hero. These six people are connected by different cases.

"New Normal" made its world premiere at the 26th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival on July 17, 2022 as the festival's closing film.

Anonymous Feb 06 2026 1:48 pm The only thing i gather from this movie is that this whole movie surrounds the title of the movie, “New Normal”. I was to assume it’s pointing out in today’s world it’s a new normal that everyone just lives their daily lives not acknowledging that everyday, every minute, even every second that something sinister and horrific is happening right under our noses. It also adds to people being so desensitized to hearing about heinous things happening 24/7 (hence why they kept playing news stories of horrific events happening) that people don’t use any type of urgency, survival skills and/or alertness when they end up in such situations as if it’s too impossible for them to be in those situations. With the six stories showed, all had one thing in common: lack of awareness. Everyone did not heed to any of the red flags until they were way past a point of escape. I guess the moral of the story for each one is: Don’t assume because it’s happening elsewhere that it won’t find its way to you.

MrPhinn Nov 11 2025 2:18 pm Started out interesting enough, but quickly fell off the rails. How was the girl in the convenient store connected to so much death. The drunk dude in her store got jacked by the female killer, the customer in the store with the yellow purse got jacked at the deli, and her on-line gamer friend coincidentally got killed by the same person that killed her. Yet the kid that got snatched, and the young man who almost got smacked by the girl committing suicide had no connection.

Story was all over the place. Waste of time.

okja Jul 20 2024 9:57 am not so much a movie as an anthology-ish collection of stories. i get some of the hate for it in other comments but there are 6 segments and some are better than others. it basically feels like a korean "twilight zone".

well filmed other than an odd skipping/low frame rate slow motion effect that pops up here and there. some random color effects that are supposed to be argento-like i guess?

i thought it would be a surreal, odd movie but it's basically people dying in different unpleasant ways. if you're a horror fan you might like it but it does get repetitive at times and depends on characters making REALLY stupid decisions. all the actors do a lot with what they're given; ha da-in's performance is the best in the film even though it just adds to the grim, downer tone of the whole thing. not a casual date movie.

5/10 for the meh segments, 7/10 for the good ones.

Ji Dec 19 2023 3:50 am I didn't think I'd enjoy this movie, but it's actually good. It's kind of dark. I skipped the student's story midpart because I could read what would happen and I just couldn't watch it. Great performances from the actors. Thumbs up!
