An Jun-Ho (Jung Hae-In) is a soldier. He is quiet and calm, but inflexible. Sergeant Park Beom-Gu (Kim Sung-Kyun) notices Private An Jun-Ho's tenacity and ability to observe. He transfers An Jun-Ho to the D.P. (Deserter Pursuit) team. Their mission is to catch deserters. An Jun-Ho works with Sergeant Park Beom-Gu and Corporal Han Ho-Yeol (Koo Kyo-Hwan) on the team. Sergeant Park Beom-Gu looks tired all the time. He curses and nags at An Jun-Ho and Han Ho-Yeol, but he also takes care of them with his keen insight. Han Ho-Yeol sometimes gives An Jun-Ho investigative know-how, but he sometimes annoys him.

Meanwhile, First Lieutenant Lim Ji-Seob (Son Suk-Ku) only cares about his success in the military. He does not care for the D.P. team.

Kdrama Llama Mar 16 2025 11:59 am It’s a Kdrama. But not as we know it..! No contract marriages and no need for goblins or demons, truly the worst of humanity is on display here. It was a powerful, brilliant if often bleak watch and I absolutely loved the bromance between the MLs, Jun Ho and Ho Yeol, perfection!

I also wanted give a shout out for show’s trailers, which were amazing… It’s often a hard sell trying to persuade others to embrace KDramas, somehow the trailers often fail at summarising the plot in a compelling way, not so here, I’ve actually persuaded several people to give this series a try, and they loved it! The soundtrack was on point too.

Counterflow Jun 10 2024 7:53 am I love, love, love this show! It's criminal how underrated D.P. is compared to other Netflix originals that aren't even half as good as this. It's probably because of the topic (the Korean mandatory military service) which non-Koreans would have a hard time relating to. Contrary to other reviews, I thought the bullying (though obviously brutal) was presented in a less brutal mannner compared to The Glory. 6 episodes was enough to convey its message.

Great acting from everyone, most notably Jung Hae In. His acting is as realistic as it gets, it's like he's not acting at all. I think that's incredible. His character does not show much emotion on the surface but you can see the pent-up emotions in his eyes. And when he's pushed to the limit, prepare for an explosion of emotions. What an awesome young actor!

Elvera Sep 25 2023 4:50 pm I watched the first season and barely got through it, but the unbelievable violence and cruelty in the second season I shut it down. One of my favorite actors is Jung hae-in he is a fabulous actor I absolutely love to miss something in the rain and snowdrop and a few of the other ones but to watch him in this was too much. If this really goes on in the Korean military why isn't anybody doing something about it? Please do something!

This is a bit hard to take watching human beings enjoying their abuse of their fellow man. Has the whole world turned into psychopathic narcissist it seems to look that way. I've enjoyed some of the actors taking part in this series in other genres but I can't watch them in this there's enough misery in the world without having to make it your form of entertainment I know that people love violence and these programs like squid game become very popular and I have to say that is really sad.

MissSamgyeopsal Jul 31 2023 11:24 pm At first episode it was hard to watch because it was very triggering for explicit abuse and violence in bullying, I was stopped at the half of first episode but continued watching after season 2 was launched on Netflix I was curious about this drama, and I finished watching season 1 in just a few days. I was hooked on the storyline, I think the bullying is the strong story that makes this drama so great and we need more drama to campaign to stop bullying anywhere and everywhere. Watching The Glory, and watching D.P. is another form of bullying in the school and military environment, but a bully is a bully, abuse is abuse. I was so sad and angry at the same time when watching the drama, the same emotion I felt on The Glory too.

All the cast is perfect, the script is amazing and not too much, all is about facts that happened all around the world.

Thea Jul 30 2023 4:05 pm Just finished looking at ep2 how sad that even the military is corrupt and was ready to kill that guy, truth be told those guy did not deserve to be hurt/killed like that but they did bring it on themselves and the guy even reported to the higher-up and they just dismissed it. Being bullied even after school years and on into adulthood. this is something that should be addressed seriously.

Songofsorrow Sep 24 2022 11:20 am D.P. was fantastic. No glorification of the military, no happy ending, no instant gratification, no heroism. It's hard to imagine such a show exists, and has conveyed so so much in six episodes that it has sparked debates about the military in S. Korea. It's the brilliance of writer-nim and P.D.nim to not drag it beyond the 6 episodes. D.P. made it's point: so long as the military and similar structures of power exist, there will be abuse. It is a systemic issue, not an individual one. Bravo! Also, loved the entire cast but the discovery for me was Koo Gyo-Hwan. What a delightful actor! Saw him recently in a cameo for Extraordinary Attorney Woo and he was brilliant in that. Put Koo Gyo-Hwan together with Shin Ha-Kyun and that'll be an explosive drama.

When it's not nominated, I seriously question the award-giving body's legitimacy, lol. It's THAT good! Very relevant subject matter. Very well-acted too! Jung Haein deserves the best actor award, IMO. Such a flawless performance from start to finish. It's sad that not everyone appreciates understated, nuanced acting, and instead prefers overacting, but his nominations in all the award-giving bodies is a start. All the supporting actors did a splendid job too. Great writing and directing. I'm looking forward to season 2 and I'm seriously concerned how they'll top season 1. It's cinematic perfection. 1000/10

Celina Aug 02 2022 3:44 am Oh. My. God... What a drama. So well-made, well-acted, well-directed, well-written. It's a deep, sad, meaningful, heartwarming, and funny (didn't expect this!) drama.

The actors did great jobs portraying their each own character. But let be honest here, Koo Gyo Hwan IS the star in this drama, and later Cho Hyun Chul's performance as Suk Bong is so epic. Well-deserved Best Supporting Actor and Best New Actor Awards for both of them at this year's Baeksang.

I feel that Jung Hae In is the supporting cast of Koo Gyo Hwan in this drama, not the other way around (sorry JHI fans ^ . ^")

D. P is teaching us very valuable lessons about bullying. There's one dialogue between Suk Bong and Sgt. Hwang....

Suk Bong : Why did you do that (bullying) to me? Sgt. Hwang: I just thought it was okay.

Simple answer but so sad and ridiculous. Bullying is never be okay. If you're bullying someone, you're hurting not only their body but also their heart and soul.

I'm looking forward for season 2. The ending in season 1 is such a cliffhanger.

P.S: There is a hidden scene in the last episode after the credit title. Can't believe "Millitary Prosecutor Doberman" copied that scene in their drama.

Shosh May 26 2022 2:16 pm Friends told me not to watch this, but I'm glad I did. A disturbing but well-acted, well-paced series. (Jung Hae In was, of course, excellent.) I talked about the series with a friend who served in the Korean military. He revealed that he too had been bullied, though thankfully not to the extent that some of the characters in this drama were bullied.

DO has been made beautifully giving you the insight of the luves of the army recruits and how they are treated how their personalities are changed and they desert from the army. Stop Bullying! Oct 09 2021 7:27 am I finished this drama in 1 day and I gotta say the ending broke my heart. The bullying that happens in the drama is so heartbreaking.

Great cinematography, awesome acting, good and heartwrenching storyline. If this really happens in real life, I really hope it will end. :(

hera Oct 04 2021 9:05 am This is a very good drama. TBH I like it even better than Squid Game that aired at the same time with this drama. It has some sort of every genre, comedy, melancholy, political and so on. I thought it's gonna be a serious show at first, but then the comedic dp duo Jun Ho and Ho Yeol come into picture lol. Ho Yeol is my favourite character in this show, his lightheartedness shed a light for other bad things happening in the military.

It really open my eyes about the hierarchy in this world, the thing that I despise the most. The drama shows that no matter how high you are in your rank, there will be someone higher than you and you have to bow to them too like how your inferior bow down to you. Like Captain Lim who treat Beom Gu badly also have to obey the General Captain(?). Also it's cynical to see that as mighty as Jang Soo is in the military, ordering around his sub-ordinates, in the outside world where he's discharged from the military, he still have to obey his boss who ordered him around while working at a mere convenience store.

It's ironic how in the earlier episode, Suk Bong told Jun Ho to be nicer to their juniors when their time comes, but in the end, he also fell into the non-ending cycle and treat his juniors badly. I wouldn't call it hypocritical because you really can see how he try to suppress it but it shows that one's patience has limits.

Throughout the series, you would get the gist of how everyone hate it when they are treated harshly by their superior, but everyone in turn do the same thing to others too. It will make you wonder, if they don't like it, why would they do it to others? Why they didn't try to stop the cycle and create a better environment for the future? Here it shows the nature of human, we always want to reflect our experience on others, no matter good or bad.

Yup, I really did a thesis summary for this show rather than finishing my uni works. If that doesn't convince you to watch this, i don't know what else will lol

That shit really gives trauma mentally not only to the victims, but the family of victims as well. I hope everyone learns moral values of this drama and stop bullying! Before you bully someone, think about your family: will you be okay if your beloved one get bullied too? And I also hope South Korea government gives more attention to military service, so no one needs to suffer such terrible things!

Renwa Sep 16 2021 11:40 am D.P. is a Stunning, raw, gritty, courageous, truth seeking drama. Most definitely Award worthy! Challenging to watch at every turn but so engaging you can’t take your eyes off of it. The entire production team are “A” TEAM in their craft. The acting is superb…as is the writing, direction, cinematography…All of it! Jung Hae-In who attracted me to this drama again never disappoints. He so respects his craft by courageously taking on different roles thereby stretching & refining his skills with every new project. Koo Gyo-Hwan’s performance is really so fine complimenting Jung Har-in so well. While bullying in the military is the core emphasis in this drama, there are equally disturbing parallels in other societal areas. Go no further than the K Drama mega industry. While I too giddily enjoy the escapism of a drama, I have a growing awareness of the horrific bullying actors & perhaps others in the industry suffer under. Hinted at here & there, the K Drama industry needs their own D.P. All that said, what will it take to impact & destroy bullying…that which is an affront to human dignity…humanity. Thank you all for your courage in producing what will surely be a classic & new direction in drama.

The story line, the consequences of choices people make, the acting was just superb, the cinematography so for me it was a top notch series. Was so into it that before I knew it I was watching the last one. Was really disappointed that there were so few episodes. So went looking to see when the next series was to be ready for this avid watcher to view it, only to find that there is no second series. Why Not??? If you do like this please ask for a second series. Please Netflix give us MORE!!

It just horrible, how someone's act can make someone else a murder. I just cried after watch last episode. But seriously this is a good series, like Very Good. You won't dissapointed.

I don't know why and how but it touched something in my heart and soul. I don't doubt that all events actually happens not only in Korea but in all military group. Actors are amazing, everyone is so good and I can't help but admire these talented men..from the lead actor to all supporting actors. I'm hoping for season 2 but please have a happy or satisfying ending for the 2 D.P and the Chief.

Hard hitting and realistic about the military. Can’t fault the writer, director OST, cinematographer. Can’t wait for season 2. This suits Hae In - tough boy with a heart style.

Clearly, highly critical of Korea's obligatory military service and possibly why it was only commissioned for six episodes.

Not one weak pedestrian performance in the whole thing. Jung Hae-In has a great intensity about him and Koo Gyo-Hwan was an excellent lighter foil to him, but especial honours should go to Kim Sung-Kyun who finally gets to play a genuinely dramatic role.

His acting skills are well up to it.

The drama highlights deep rooted issues associated with Korean hierarchy in military, and bullying in military goes so unnoticed, that soldiers choose to desert/take their own lives.

Well casted actors and actresses! Their immense acting got me crying, smiling at moments and feel anger rising from within!

One thing I disliked was the filler episode with actor “Jun”. The script for that episode was disappointing. If you watched it, you know what I mean.

Truly enjoying his performances and Koo Gyo-Hwan is definitely one to watch. They made a great team. Ending was heartbreaking and the title ‘On-Lookers’ was spot on. *Spoiler Alert* I wonder why at the end he ran in the other direction….

So impressed that producer is eager to reflect the real situation at military about the brutality of senior to junior soldiers that It has been happening in many countries. The synopsis is good as well that I am enjoy watching. The casts are into their characters especially Jung Hae-In, Koo Gyo-Hwan, and Cho Hyun Chul ; they are excellent in their roles. Next episode please. I don’t know about the rating in Korea but I hope it could be good feedback otherwise we can watch only comedy romance and thriller dramas.

Thuy Anh Aug 31 2021 4:40 am Besides the great performance of the three main actors, I'm fascinated and thrilled by the acting skill of Cho Hyun-Chul and Shin Seung-Ho. They gave me chills every time. The drama is so well-developed, it leaves me with so many questions about the dark sides of the constructed community in the military.

Hope to see the S2 very baddd as the ending of S1 is so remarkable!!!!

Well done Jong Hae In and Koo gyo Hwan, bromance duo and the contrasting characters. JHI seemed in his element, he can be handsome with his big ears, cute. But I like him in hard parts, not so much romantic comedy unless he is with Son Ye Jin. KGH great comedian. Use him more. Hard to watch some parts but it shows there can be redemption. Good setting and direction.

Ellie Aug 30 2021 5:37 am This role really suits Jung Hae In - his steely calm and strength suit soldier or police parts. He was only a successful lover boy in Something in the Rain because he was with Son Ye Jin and I think he really did love her, you could see it in his eyes. They acted so very well together. I love this romance. Apart from this, romances don’t suit him. He’d be great in a spy thriller. Koo Gyo-Hwan is a hilarious character actor I haven’t seen before and they spark off each other. The realism of life in the Korean military is scarily well drawn, but I think these things take place in militaries around the world. I’m only on episode 3, so half way and totally invested in this.

Andea Aug 30 2021 1:10 am Can I just say how great this film is?! I mean seriously it’s short and the message is direct. Ho Yeol’s character made the film better against all the seriousness of the other characters his funny personality gave life to the series. I am so inlove with the ending yes go fire that riffle! I really want to see the military to remove all its toxicity and promote Beom-Gu, but they wanted it to be realistic. Whenever they say “why didn’t you do anything?” it breaks my heart cause ignorance is not only seen in that series but also in real life where people just watch those who get bullied or abused. Turning a blind eye won’t make a person innocent.

slc Aug 29 2021 10:46 pm Some great performances, but I can't get past the horrifying abuse portrayed, so much so that it actually kept me up at night. I can only hope that no one actually suffered or is currently suffering the brutal and unspeakable abuse perpetrated on the soldiers in the movie. If the abuse is ongoing, then it's a public service to reveal it so something can be done to stop it. I worry, however, that the drama will fuel sick minds to similarly victimize others in real life.

Unspeakable_Thought Aug 29 2021 10:41 am Jung Hae In is a really promising korean actor. He’s successfully performed a troubled but sensitive An Jun Ho. You can feel his darkness, his warmth, his raw human side.

And Koo Gyu Hwan?? Wow I can’t believe I just discovered about him, seriously he knows how to perform as an actors. I guess I’m going to watch his other performance. I’m so tired of handsome & 6 feet tall korean actors but average skill, give someone like Koo Gyu Hwan more space on television!!!

As non korean viewer, I can’t actually relate to the mandatory military duty as the background but I can feel the raw & emotional human interaction in a desperation background and I can’t help but to wish that war will never going to happen between two Korea nations. This series told you that you don’t play with humanity, it left permanent scar and in the end you can’t never really escaped it.

Do you know how many times i cried bcuz of this drama like wtf!! i rlly hope this doesnt happen in the military irl and I also hope that in the drama, it will change. The message was just incredible, pls dont bully ppl or even just watch ppl getting bullied, do something. This drama, ugh it was amazing, i have no other things to say. I hope ppl will watch this more..

The story is engaging, the soundtrack is good, the acting is excellent, and the unexpected touch of comedy feels refreshing. I love Ho Yeol’s character especially for bringing laughter amidst the depression. The ending feels a little rushed to me. I want to know what happened to Jun Ho and Ho Yeol after the tragedy. I really hope for season 2, and wish that it’ll be 16 episodes long!

These are not just isolated incidents, it happens everyday. The cycle will never stop unless someone has to do something about it.

I hope that no one gets treated the way that they did, even though this must be something that goes on for decades. Praying for those who serve the army to never be treated at the level that they did. It made me cry for them, especially at the end :(

Other cutesy young-looking actors would not have been able to pull it off. Been hoping for him to have a role similar to what he portrayed in Prison Playbook. He owned this role and character.
