A female high school student (Jeon So-Nee) goes missing. Her body or any evidence of her disappearance cannot be found, but the girl is suspected of having jumped off a bridge to her death. One of her classmates, Young-Hee (Jeon Yeo-Bin) learns she was the last person to see her alive. The missing girl's mother (Seo Young-Hwa) quickly throws accusations at Young-Hee. Soon, Young-Hee's classmates, faculty and detectives question her innocence.

L Apr 02 2023 3:20 pm extremely simple minded ppl stay away before you give yourself a headache trying to understand this movie like me. If you enjoy dark films/shows I’d say this was really heavy and dark so go right ahead but be prepared to interpret and come to your own conclusions about this movie since very few things are actually shown/mentioned. I think yeobeens acting was incredible here though. Hated the teacher and it’s been days and I still don’t understand the dinner scene where SPOILER!! the mum begins stabbing herself anyone whose seen this movie please explain in the comments…

Shania Oct 30 2021 2:32 am Normally I enjoy slow paced movies, even if it's not too deep like this one, but this one leaves too much for interpretation, it's frustrating.

To my understanding, this movie dwelves into responsability, the need to find a guilty person instead of looking at ourselves and find how we are responsible.

The school's blaming Young-hee because she was with Kyung-min before her disapearance, the mom obsessing with Young-hee because she's the perfect target...

And after Young-hee did what she did, when the tide changes, everyone shift sides and try to find another one to blame, the one who spread the rumour by jealousy or the other one who said some mean words in passing.

The title could be translated by "Sinful girl", as to who's the sinful girl ? You could say it's everyone.

4 reviews so far and it's 2:2, but then one is only a comment on the reviewer herself "I'm not that smart"!

I understand the last comment about not addressing the "suicide issue", but then this is not meant to be a self-help film and I doubt it would encourage people to have a go at it themselves. It is, however, a horror mystery in the vain of "Parasite" which along with other Korean movies of that genre always leaves you wondering at the end, like a Sudoku puzzle that has more than one solution (yes they do exist!). When we watch movies, we like to know ultimately what was going on. Hollywood spells it out in enormous Block Capitals, perhaps for people who are not so smart, whereas Korean movies often conceal a little too much and, since they are not true stories, they too could have multiple solutions. In this case only the writers would know or maybe they chose to leave it too obfuscated.

My understanding, after a quick run through a second time to figure out exactly who the 3 girls were in the opening scene, is that this is in fact not about suicide, but about a murder undertaken by the two remainers on the jilted former partner of YoungHee. Note they together trapped KyungMin into being suspected of shoplifting while they were shoplifting themselves! And see how they were still so close at the end...

The only confusing issue left is that of the mother - ok so she'd been fiddling with her daughter or whatever - either a lucky guess on YoungHee's part or maybe KyungMin did actually tell her some awful family secrets. The main point is that it is a love triangle and the mother was the last remaining obstacle who still had suspicions about YoungHee. They had got rid of the daughter, so why not get rid of the mother?

Overall if you like this sort of dark mystery it is a good film and well acted especially by JeonYeoBin (YougnHee) and SeoYoungHwa (the mother), but I can understand that this genre is not everyone's cup of tea.

Like it's bad in the sense that it can't decide what story it's trying to tell nor handle any of the subject matter it attempts to tackle in a way that would encourage positive changes regarding said subject matter. I'd be very surprised if this movie did anything good for things like suicide prevention and anti-bullying. It just fails miserably in every sense of the word to hit the mark. It puts a big fat spotlight on how Korea and really Asia as a whole tends to handle the subject matter featured. One big fat disgusting spotlight.

Dilshad Alam Jul 22 2020 12:45 pm After my Death is quite difficult to watch, but it is a magnificent drama packed and hear warming film. This is a tough stuff indeed, but you will not forget it easily once you watch it. The excellent and intense acting of Jeon Yeo-bin and veteran actress Seo Young-hwa. Jeon is outstanding. I was drawn into the film and every ounce of me was pulled in. The movie is worth watching and will for sure be appreciated by movie lovers.

The ending made me think for a bit but I believe the film is to relate how in South Korea people tend to look the other way when something is happening to others. So when a classmate was being bullied and teachers and family are turning a blind eye, classmates are usually the bullies or too busy trying to achieve high grades to get into a good school worthy of praise.

I wish, even in just scenes that there was a bit more back story to Kyung-min, even just as quick flash backs. Even without the movie was great, the dark tone but very real tone was brilliantly done. I do think Mrs.Park must've done something to her daughter too for such a reaction in the end but I suppose it is up to speculation of the viewer to take what they want for it.

I 100% recommend this film, but it is a slow moving film, I'm probably one of few who think movies like that tell a much bigger story with less words.
