Jin Sang-Pil (Jung Jae-Young) is elected as a member of the national assembly. Prior to becoming a national assembly member, he worked as a welder in a shipyard. He is simple, brave and righteous, but his work as a national assembly member is poor. With the help of his aid Choi In-Gyeong (Song Yoon-A), Jin Sang-Pil is able to become a honorable national assembly member.

Screenplay is based on screenwriter's Jung Hyun-Min's own personal experience. He worked as an aide to a member of the national assembly for 10 years.

Julie Jan 26 2016 7:51 pm I am also not interested in politics but I think the actors and actresses did a really fine job. The story is very interesting. I wouldn't have watched it except that a friend highly recommended it. It should have got more attention. Some of the other shows, with pretty boys, are definitely overrated. This one should be highly promoted.Thanks for writing and producing this drama!

Beazel74 Jan 18 2016 1:47 pm I am not really interested in politics. But I like the plot because every episode just gets you hooked. There might be times where I didn't understand about the terminologies but I enjoyed how Jin sang pil (Jung Jae young) was acted. I like the emotional speeches he gave and you can learn from what he is saying. I also really liked the ending of the series because it was great to see everyone's life progressed... I laughed a lot watching this series, because it was fun to bring down their enemies in the legal way and convincing people just with JSP's sincere heart...cham..chamna... I think JUNG JAE YOUNG can even go to politics..=) Btw, there were so many great lessons. I would like to list them but I recommend to watch this series!<3

How could it be otherwise with an award-winning writer, an experienced director and a superb cast, starting with JJY in his FIRST drama ever?! I will DEFINITELY rewatch this drama, it is that good. And the politics is timely and universal. And the women!! Some of the best women characters in all kdrama.

Very refreshing to see such a well-acted drama, without the usual love interests and pettiness. I am not familiar with Korean politics, but the gamesmanship is universal...so true no matter where you are!

SAB Sep 23 2015 10:36 am i have been studying politics and administration in university for four years now. even though i've never tasted the real political world, i've came to think that the good politics only happens in text books. but this drama show me hope.

add to that, the story and the casts are somehow great. the protagonist is shown as a good person not in a cheesy way. the writer real experiment in assembly made the political tricks seemed real for me.

though i feel dissapointed with the ending. i'm still hoping JSP would move forward with his political career with aide choi as his secretary. they are like match made in heaven in political context. Aide Choi, eventhough she has brain, but in some critical points she likely loss the guts to practice honest politics.

However to everyone who are considering whether to watch this drama or not, i would like to say, you should if you wanna have a little hope of a better political world.

wev Sep 19 2015 3:00 am one of the few very good Kdramas that i have watched. and have noticed that these very good Kdramas - like Assembly and Jejongwon, had low viewership, many do not appreciate dramas that will make you think/learn. but I hope that the producers will not stop doing these very good Kdramas even if the ratings are not great.

Mdme.Song Yoon-A- so as you your greatness in your performance is beyond appreciation. and the rest of the cast.Figthing Assembly...!!

Countries get the (bad) governments they deserve because people can't be bothered to vote or demand better from politicians. This series takes a cold long look at political infighting and corruption. If Koreans think this is just the exaggeration of dramas, think again!

I only returned to it out of boredom because I had watched all the other shows and found myself hooked. I love it. I am not sure though how they will sustain the plot for 20 episodes.

vivan Aug 14 2015 3:02 am There IS romance... it's beautifully played out too.. Both leads should win the best actor/actress awards. Just watch their eyes... especially when JSP thought he was betrayed by CIG... it was similar to a lover's betrayal.

Rewatch the episodes again. Watch their eyes. You can feel how their love blossom! That's why this drama is so awesome. Such great casts!

So i just try to understand the scenario. If i remember you have too many philosophy this drama one of one dialogue is the way too long. I hope they writer using simple word to delivered a very hard message. I think this is one of reason both i remember you and assembly ratings are NR.

Kay Jul 25 2015 6:34 pm OK I've seen a few episodes now, and I don't think Taecyeon is doing too badly. At least he doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. Most of the older actors are excellent, and JJY doesn't disappoint. Nice (though a bit weird) to see Jang Hyun Sung again after binge watching Vampire Prosecutor. His VP and Assembly characters are not that different from each other, as demonstrated by that flash of menace in his scene with JJY in episode 3 (just after JJY is sworn in as an assemblyman).

Kay Jul 25 2015 8:40 am Well, I've now watched a few episodes, and I've got to say Taecyeon's acting is kind of okay and he does not stick out like a sore thumb. Most of the older actors are, of course, excellent. I was wondering if JJY could play the righteous and straight-talking working man without veering dangerously into sentimental and simplistic shoutiness, and so far he has not disappointed me. And it's lovely (though a bit weird) to see the marvellously subtle Jang Hyun Sung here just after binge-watching Vampire Prosecutor. His Assembly and VP characters are kind of similar but (as all VP fans will know) also very different in other ways.

Also, I cannot say how much I appreciate a drama series that tackles some very important issues in Korean society. Movies deal with such problems all the time but for the most part drama is still too bubbly for my particular tastes. This realistic take is very refreshing and makes it a must watch for me.

Korina Pappas Jul 23 2015 7:37 am Welcome to dramaland, Mr. Jung Jae-Young. One of the best scripts on TV for a very, very long time and an excellent cast to back it up.

 This is not everyone's cup of tea and certainly not the usual plot. I'm sure Assembly will not be apreciated by teenagers, nor viewers who mostly watch easy, bubbly dramas. Nonetheless, whoever is familiar with the basic in Politics this drama will give them food for thought. It has the flair of a breathtaking movie.
 I adore the magnificent OST and I really hope low ratings should still allow us to watch this astonishing (especially for a kdrama) story. No matter what I used to think about the Big-3, thank you KBS for this bold project!

emiri Jul 04 2015 2:20 am Wow Teaser 3 really has something for everyone. For those who like quality drama and acting, there's Jung Jae Young and Song Yoon Ah being all serious and professional. For boyband and Kpop lovers, there's Taecyeon with his best music-video half-smirk, wowing the ladeeez in both casual wear and sharp suit. For the record, JJY has a kinda dry wit that I find a lot sexier than Taecyeon's half-formed boyishness, but I've gotta admit Taecyeon is by far the better dancer. Maybe they'll find some way of slipping a few dance moves into the drama, cos I doubt the fans will be satisfied with just a bit of running along a bridge.

You should try to watch his movies & no doubt you will not dissapointed... if you like his film genre ^_^ For me, I just like you before but now I will watch drama/movies for their story. Even I really love some actor but if the movie/drama storyline not what I like I will drop off that movies/drama.

He looks like a nice boy, but I really hope he'll be able to keep up with the real actors/actresses, and not be too much of a drag on the proceedings.

Since I heard they are mostly veteran korean celebrities, I have no interest in them whatsoever and will skip this drama. Sorry Taecyeon, since you're not the main lead, your screen time is probably quite less so I'm not going to waste my time watching a drama that has people who I'm not interested to see in.

Your watch does not count toward Korea view, so that doesn't even matter.
