Tobio Masubuchi (Masataka Kubota) and his friends are ordinary high school students. Due to an incident, their peaceful days are about to change. Tobio’s friends are beaten by students from another high school in their neighborhood. Tobio and his friends scheme to get back the students from the other school. The day they are to carry out their plan, they see the other high school engulfed in flames. Tobio and his friends become suspects.

kjdramafan Feb 20 2019 12:28 am One of the best jdrama I have ever watched! The story is almost perfect, but it still have some holes like the explicit parts, suicides and attempted suicides, and others. But overall, it was a very directed great story, mostly acted by top actors/actresses!

Really sad about Tobio's ending, even after 10 years later, he still unhappy and life with regret about ichihashi and didnt end up with renko :((

Ming Sep 25 2017 6:19 pm To anyone reading this, wondering if they should watch Bokuyari, I highly recommend it.

I came to watch Bokuyari with very little context. I've never read the manga, so I wasn't sure what I was going to get. What I got was a great drama that's got you at the edge of your seat and your emotions up and down.

The show balances itself carefully between having a "daily lives of high school boys" comedic vibe and a surprisingly dark tone that throws you way off track. The way they execute it is great, because, in the end, these are just a few high school boys, trying to have some fun and trying to make sense of what's happening around them, and comedy's sometimes the only way they know how to cope. When faced with a crisis, each of the main characters have different innate responses, the writers portray this all so masterfully, I can't believe it's only a 10-episode drama.

And of course, there's the actors. Kubota Masataka again paints Tobio with such realism. His confusion and inner conflict feels real, and I vicariously feel pain when Tobio's in bed, shaking and crying. Mackenyu is introduced as a completely blank-faced vicious leader, and there's not much sympathy for him,but in scenes where he shows frustration, it's heartbreaking.

==THE REST OF THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS== For those of you who don't care about spoilers, I first want to talk about how dark this show is at times. Tobio himself has attempted suicide multiple times out of an inescapable feeling of guilt. Isami has tried as well. Renko almost gets raped by the students from Yabako, which leads to Ichihashi trying to kill himself with a blade. He tried again later, and succeeds, which honestly had me crying.

At first, this show is very silly...just 4 boys trying to have a very fun life, trying to get laid, going to karaoke, etc, but the dark moments come fast.

As good as this show is, of course there are a few questions. It's never explained how Ichihashi and Tobio became such great friends, and while that was my favourite relationship in the show, it was introduced quite suddenly. Also, Iimura is the sketchiest police I've ever seen.

All in all, making a comedically dark show was hard to master, but the directors did a great job here. Please, give it a try! If you want to talk about it after, find me on twitter! (@greatmingling)

Neo Jul 18 2017 6:58 am I watched the first episode live so I couldn't understand anything, but the story is interesting enough and the cinematography of the drama is great. I really like the characters and their actors. The show is comedic at times but also retains the serious mood of crime/school shows. As an outsider who has never been in the Japanese school system, it makes me wonder how realistic the school culture is portrayed in the show. The "bad kids" are crazy scary... they bully a kid into killing someone WTF
