Top student Yong-Joo (Kwak Si-Yang) aims to enter Seoul University. Ki-Woong (Lee Jae-Joon) is the leader of a gang at high school. Yong-Joo and Ki-Woong were friends back in middle school, but they have drifted apart since entering high school. Ki-Taek (Choi Joon-Ha) attended the same middle school as Yong-Joo and Ki-Woong. Ki-Taek is bullied by friends. Yong-Joo tries to help Ki-Taek, but Ki-Woong just watches from a distance.

Meanwhile, Yong-Joo's mother struggles to make a living and raising Yong-Joo alone. Ki-Woong's father fights to get reinstated at work after being fired. School teachers emphasize to the students that their academic scores are more important than their friends.

Yong-Joo feels so lonely. He reaches out his hand to Ki-Woong.

Jil Feb 12 2021 12:27 pm I heard that when the movie was release in SK it also a tome when its a hot issue. I think therefore that this movie helps the LGBTQ somehow. I salute the cast and producers for doing such a bold move.

This movie, is not purely about LGBTQ anyway, it also shows the pain of growing up in a shit society. So i recommend this to everyone.

If only this world could learn to understand each other, what a better place could each person would be. Be kind, always.

I'm not going to talk about the view on the korean society because other people in the comments did and pretty well.

Dithyramb Nov 25 2017 5:34 pm This was the first Korean movie I ever watched. The first gay one too. I wasn't expecting much, maybe to let out a few angry huffs here and there. But I was a sobbing mess by the end of it. Every scene I thought was unnecessary came back to haunt me as the film progresses, from their time in the fields to the flashback of Ki-Woong crying cause he was beat up. All of them were brought back in the most unexpected way, making the pain they inflicted even more real. This is probably one of the best movies depicting relationships that I've ever watched. It showed that happy endings were rare if not non-existant and it was your job to keep fighting on. A perfect display of the pain queer people go through to survive.

A bona fide masterpiece.

@noel25122003 it was rape, he was raping him and asked him if he liked it. The bully only unzipped his pants and it was not a sexual thing it was a pure power thing, you don't have to be gay to have sex with someone from the same sex.

This movie is great, but so f**king sad..

whitewolf Jul 18 2016 2:22 pm when (year probably) was the setting of the whole story took place? with all the idols singer/actor looking more feminine nowadays I just can't picture out if the story took place 2010 - current. It probably was set before 2010 when people are not that as open-minded & more homophobic. I also can't believe teachers are still allowed to hit students. However they made use off gay finding/matching app w/c is quite recent. So I'm still confused of the timeline. What I really liked was Ki-Woong, tough on the exterior but still likes to watch cartoons/anime at his age.

Tina May 12 2016 12:13 pm This movie is awesome. The plot is great and so realistic. The actors are amazing. The scenes and the overall directing is really good. It is a must watch, in my opinion. It has a sad story but a nice ending really.

Takenprisoner Mar 23 2016 4:23 pm Such a great movie. There were like one or two cheesy scenes and plot holes, but I can overlook that. I was going into the movie with no expectations and I generally don't emote when watching sad movies, but this one left me in a wreck. The ending was sad. Wish it had a happier resolution but the harsh reality is that there is rarely any happy endings in real life. I still can't sleep properly on how the ending left me feeling (in a good way), and if a movie makes me feel that way, then that means it's a good movie in my books

I mean the bully didn't rape Yong Joo (he didn't take off his trousers and he is not... gay.). He just pretended to do it so that the others can record those scenes to shame Yong Joo.

I'm wary of Korean movies too and prefer checking what they contain before watching them because I know Korean directors love putting nudity, sex and violence everywhere but I thought it would just be highschool fights so I watched and... I was not ready for that.

Laura Aug 01 2015 5:45 pm This is one of those rare Korean movies I actually enjoyed watching. I generally find Korean movies have weak story development and awkward acting but this one was good. I had no idea it was gay-themed, it was a good surprise, I felt both actors were very convincing and had great chemistry, something I rarely feel while watching Korean movies or gay-themed movies. 10/10

This storyline is fantastic, darkside of this movie made me go into it like I'm still trying to understand what I just saw. AMAZING movie is not enough. It's a wonderful film. A REALLY good job director and actors too. I hope I can see more of this genre in the future and I'm expecting a lot from Lee Jae Joon & Kwak Si Yang. Thank You. Thank You Very Much. I'm tears here...

Lara Jun 04 2015 9:56 pm I watched this film 3 times unsubbed before I found a subtitled version, thankfully the plot wasn't too different to how I'd interpreted it without subs. Visually, a stunning movie in my opinion. I was a little thrown off by how old the characters looked because they were very obviously not played by actors of the right age group, but the acting itself was fantastic. It was dark, it covered many topics, from gay rights and homophobia to the education system and the pressure from parents and teachers. Left me a crying mess every time. Overall, a really good film and definitely worth watching.

John Paul Gonzalez Jun 03 2015 1:25 pm This exhilarating film was almost too much to bear. The intensity, darkness and despair was strangely and magnificently captured (once again) but visionary film director and auteur Lee Song, as he is once again transmit youth pathos in every frame.

I had to sit for almost two hours, alone, at 3:00 am, listen to the music which I bought on iTunes, and relive each moment.
