Tae Ukishima (Erina Mano) works at the front desk for a company. Her dream is to marry a competent man and live as a housewife. Her boyfriend is Shunpei Shiraishi and he works at the same company. They have dated for the past year. To marry him, Tae Ukishima pretends to act like a naive and shy person in front of him. Her real personality though is to speak frankly and making sharp remarks.

Tae Ukishima wants to relieve her stress and she decides to purchase Jun Setsuna (Ryusei Yokohama) as her boyfriend. To pay off his debt, Jun Setsuna becomes an obedient boyfriend to Tae Ukishima.

JDramafan Sep 12 2025 2:36 pm Oh one other brilliantly terrible part of this show. The female main character keeps running into her fiance throughout the show and every time, hes with some other girl. One time its a busty chick, another time its a white girl, etc. and he tells the MC the keep her mouth shut about their engagement so he can have sex with these random chicks.

And she does.

Because thats marriage in Japan aparantly.

What a dumb place if true.

If this is your first time here, scroll down a bit for my full review of this societal rot. (spoiler alert; I didn't give it a 10/10). As time marches forward I see that Japanese society is sinking further and further into the mire that this show so horrifically depicts. It saddens me, really. The culture that gave us samurai, the affordable transistor, anime, and Shigesato Itoi now reduced to this flotsam.

Like a loved one slowly dying from a disfiguring terminal disease, I will remember Japan as it once was, in its glory, and not as the withered husk it now is, hovering on the Pacific horizon, waiting to die.

So deeply scarred I am by this monstrosity that I have taken it upon myself to return once each year to post a new warning. If my efforts save even one soul from the torture of this trash then all will have been fruitful.

Rika May 11 2023 9:58 am This drama is not for everyone, I actually enjoyed it and wish they explained Jun background how he got himself into such debts. Love doesn't feed you nor pay your bills, not every woman embrace motherhood, almost all successful men cheats but they never abandon their family, all fairy tales never went beyond leads get together "and they live happily ever after" for a reason- The fl is a little violent but it also feels like an exaggerated act of release stress lol Ryusei Yokohama is so handsome, I would buy a boyfriend like him too haha

Dassssss Oct 04 2022 11:51 am The worst drama I had ever watched. How can someone marry who cheated not only once but bunch of times caught red-handed. Seriously? Everything was for that damn money. Marry for money and treat as douche bag for debt. I can't understand the meaning of this drama. Casts are good but plot is not even bad, but what kind of a story line.

JDrama Fan Nov 14 2021 12:09 am I just rewatched Love Generation for the 3rd time and i imedietaly thought of terrible this pile of trash, Kareshi wo Ron, is compared to 90s KimuTaku glory. I just had to come update the warning about the steam coil of an abomination that is Kareshi.

This drama sucks.

Rika Jun 22 2021 10:11 pm This was one of the worst dramas ever made. This is sad because Ryusei is so likeable. It featured physical abuse by the main female lead, stupid life goals by the females (goal to be a housewife) and a disappointing ending. Stay far away! 5/10

Its been 2 years but the trauma of this drama still haunts my soul. There's a special circle of hell for the people who created this show. At first it was a curiosity, "impossible" I thought to myself, "this show cant really be this bad, this story cant possibly be progressing in this direction. If so, and this is any indication of current Japanese society, then their entire nation is doomed." I watched horror as the characters played out exactly as I feared. My heart weeps forJapan. A once great nation which rose from the rubble of WW2 to become one of the 5 largest economies in the world, now producing trash like this. Farwell Japan; we hardly knew ye.

Bibby Apr 10 2020 3:03 pm Ok well before I start let me make something clear, I really love the actors/actresses in this drama. But the storyline is pretty bad. I thought it was ok but around episode 5 it all went downhill from there. I was hoping for something romantic like the girl saving the guy from debt and falling in love but its more of her just using him as a punching bag while going for the rich elite guy that kept cheating on her. The ending is bad. It was also very obviously written by a man which is not a problem but its weird that I could tell that just from watching the show. It could have been good if the girl wasn't so uncomfortably abusive and vain.

Well well well I praised this drama in my previous comment but yikes it just got worse and worse and worse and past the middle of it, I couldn't finish it. Episode 5 was really irritating, like all the bullsh*t and crap you could ever think of came out in that episode. I'm really sorry, it's the last time I will give my opinion on a drama I haven't finished yet. Friendly advice, don't watch this crap. It wasted my time, I won't recommend it to anyone.

I like watching this drama, it's refreshing and very funny to me. I don't take it seriously at all. I just relax while watching it. I just watched 4 episodes for now, I will finish it. SPOILER ALERT*

Ultimately the female lead ends up with her dream of being a pregnant house wife married to a rich business elite husband... BUT, is so frustrated with the fake docile kitty persona she has to maintain in order to keep her luxurious life, that she still has to rent a real boyfriend with whom she can have an actual emotional relationship.

And somehow, the fool of a rental boyfriend is ok with being simply an emotional punching bag for this girl while at the same time basically being her slave.

And this is considered a happy ending. Lord help us.

What this show is saying is that in Japan, not only is marriage is simply an economic business arrangement, so is the required extramarital emotional affair that comes a long with that farce.

What a terrible show.
