Sakurako Ban (Mana Ashida) is a 12-years-old girl and the second child among 4 siblings. Since her mother passed away 6 months ago, she has taken care of house chores alone. Her father, Sota meets American woman Alice Shepherd (Charlotte Kate Fox) in the United States. Alice Shepherd aspires to become a photographer, but currently works part-time. Sota and Alice Shepherd decide to marry on on the spot. Sota takes Alice to Japan and introduces her to his children as their new mother. Sakurako Ban becomes angry and tries to kick her new mother out.

You have a flippant father who didn't seem to show sorrow at his wife's death where he should have been with her and the children. He and Alice are both ditzes for getting married on the spot in Vegas, The daughter Sakura needed some discipline, Her Electra complex was way too much.

Clarkdale44 Jun 17 2017 9:07 am Wow... Just wow.... Ashida Mana's character Sakura is just way too annoying to the point it makes me furious. Episode 1 and 2 were just so hard to watch.. I completely understand the reviews of other users. I wanted to drop this show at any moment. But i kept going for Charlotte. She is a great actress no doubt.

To be honest i really didn't liked the way script ended up.. Will talk more in the spoiler section. Still at the end of the drama, i think the scriptwriter has lost his passion for his script.

Overall this drama is i don't know what to say... It gives more frustration then any sense of satisfaction. I feel like i shouldn't have had to watch this for unnecessary feeling of discomfort which i am feeling at the moment. My advice would be to watch at your own risk. The first two episodes are hard to swallow.

[SPOILER] Do not read further if you have not watched this drama any time soon. OK, let's begin... Starting of with Sakura, she is he**ll annoying... I hated her throughout the show.. Even at the end of the drama, i feel like all the kids and the husband are just taking advantage of Alice.. How sad...! They only needed her as maid...? I understand the kids's situation with their original mother and their hate toward the new mom.But was it Alice's fault that she got married. She didn't know anything, the husband never told anything about the wife or kids... Looks like they still needs to learn how cruel stepmoms can be, they needed to be grateful that she was doing so much for them, then thought they were not related to her.. Alice didn't even knew the guy had 4 kids. Yet she accepted it and cared for them like her own...

If they wanted to hate someone it should've been the dad and no one else. The dad is the second annoying character... A useless piece of trash.. Just because the other woman looks the same as his wife, he kisses her..? He was ready to marry her as long as she had stayed at his home to be the mother of his kids..

Even after all the torture and insult also too many racist jokes. Sakura was supposed to be a manner full girl, how can she just talk like that to someone so older than her...? Just because she is a foreigner? Talk about showing respect... Huh.. she has none.. i don't know if her character is supposed to be like this but one can clearly see that she is overacting and that is too much.

In the end i was hoping for Alice to go back to US. This family doesn't deserve her... I hate the ending..

Overall, i feel like this drama was a waste for a cast as good as Charlotte. This drama had the potential but they wasted it terribly.

I wish to see CKF again in another drama with a worthy script unlike this one..

I will rate this 5/10 (5 only for CKF, otherwise it would be even less.)

Dj m Jan 24 2017 6:14 pm Id rewatch this drama all over again just for the piano OST and back ground music. The melodies are very catchy. I agree with alot of people that this had a very good potential but it fell apart at the end. It would have worked well if it was more of a slice of life genre.

Ruby M Aug 25 2016 5:19 pm Well this had good potential, but it was wasted on a kiddie audience. I've been a fan of Yamamoto-san's since his seiyuu days of Hana Yori Dango, and CKF in Maasan. There was passion, love and friendship between the adults, but the show seemed to be TOO focused on the kids that it seemed a little silly. Ashida Mana did her best and played the part of mind-gaming Sakurako to the hilt.

Ashida Mana on the other hand.. seems to be going the overacting route now.. how come? her more realistic approach acting was quite better. this reminds me of her overacting in the Marumo no Okite. Cant stand Ashida mana acting tbh

mirai Jun 13 2016 6:45 pm The show was okay and I continued watching it til the end because I'm a fan of Mana. Shes a wonderful actress. Was hoping they'd give her a tough character to portray but its nothing I haven't seen from Mana. The drama did really bad in ratings but I assume it is because its in a bad slot. Ive seen dramas that were terrible and they never do this bad in ratings. From what Ive heard its been 14 years since Fuji had a drama air on a Sunday slot because of that very reason and not to mention TBS prime time drama airs on the same slot which people always tune into. ahh I feel bad for Mana but shes still very young and has a very bright future ahead of her. To think that in 10 years shes only going be 22years old and been in the business for 7 years is amazing. She really is an actress to look out for.

Mirtika Jun 08 2016 6:00 pm It's interesting that another commenter hated the foreign wife. Well, I hate the father. All the problems here are his making. He is irresponsible, immature, and aloof. He never tells his foreign wife about his kids (how do you marry someone and not tell them you have a bunch of kids?). That the kids make her the evil one is understandable--they dont' want to blame Papa. But Papa is the one who neither prepared Alice/the new wife or his family for the change in situation. Papa Sota is the one who decided to get married 6 months after his wife dropped dead. Papa Sota is the one who is constantly not addressing issues in the home and letting Alice take all the heat and blame. Papa Sota is the problem here, not Alice.

But it's easy to blame the foreigner, I guess. She got into a situation blind...but Sota knew the situation and dumped her in it.

He's a jerk. I'd be happy if this ended with Alice divorcing his skank butt and going back to America.

And while she got a little better, the daughter Sakura is one nasty piece of work at the start.

Just another drama that I've abandoned May 29 2016 8:28 pm I just didn't like the idea of replacing someone, especially in a short time. I mean, I hated the foreign actor, not because she was foreign or anything, but because she was replacing the mother. And the way she said that Sakura will be forgotten just irritates me a lot. Honestly, I really hate her. I don't mind foreigners, but I just really, really hate her. It'd have been better if she rented a room somewhere and left for America afterwards, that way, she could've toured Japan, divorced while she could (because he is an idiot, and yes, I'm agreeing with her there), and then when she's had her fill, returned to her homeland. Criticize me for my judgement, but we're all doing that anyway. I don't care if you like her, because I'm not you, and you're not me. I know that I abandoned the drama after that first episode (I so badly wanted to see her leave, but then there'd be no drama to watch since it's focused on her, unfortunately).

Spoiler Alert: It did not bother me a bit that a foreign, jazz musician visiting and gambling in Vegas would take a Costcoworker/card dealer he just met for his bride or apprise her fully of what was waiting in Japan for them-a full house of people, consisting of 4 kids mourning for their mom, squatter aunt -estranged from her husband and fixture grandfather. When the father explains to his father that his bride worked two jobs, he said it with admiration. Lazy people don't work two jobs, which indicates that he processed her stamina and work ethic as bringing positive value to his family. He told her enough of the truth about his life so she sort of knew what she was getting into, but not the full extent lest he would lose her before she got on the plane to Japan.This means despite his laid back attitude he is thinking things through.

I think he believed due to her background she would love his kids at first sight and even if the beginning was rocky it would become great.

It was just unbelievable and sexist on so many levels... not to mention the condescending attitude toward foreigners. So supposedly, they marry on the spot and he "forgets" to tell her that he has four kids and expects her to be their mom? Sounds like dude was looking for a blowup doll that had some use around the house. Next she has to cook in a home she just came to and the men just sit around. They somehow expect a woman, an american woman, to become their dream gaijin. And of course I had to roll my eyes when during her first few scenes, she said nihon daisuki. Why is it so important for them to est that with foreigners? I get asked that all the time. Sometimes my foreign friends back in the states b*tched about stuff in my town but i never got offended and could give a flying fck if they liked my country or not.
