The whirlwind fates of three people converge around the Gyeonggang River, where all of Joseon's money and goods pass through. Jang Si-Yul (Ro Woon) is a good-for-nothing man, who hides his past. Choi Eun (Shin Ye-Eun) leads a commercial group. She is a person of principle and righteousness. Jung Chun (Park Seo-Ham) is an upright government official. He wants to get rid of corruption that exists around the Gyeonggang River. The river itself was once clean and blue, but has become a murky river reflecting Joseon that has now become lawless.

Perry Apr 09 2026 8:39 am Beautiful drama, i didn't want it to end; one of the best in 2025. Rowoon did a great job portraying his character. And don't get me started with Park Mu-Deok's (Park Ji-Hwan) and his crew, I had a good laugh watching them. Kudos to everyone.

realest_Ki Apr 06 2026 7:25 am Not even finished with the first episode but I have to stop it's just a heavy watch, so much injustice and corruption, the small fish acting out on smaller fishes but grovels at their bigger fish. Human life less valued if not valued at all. No wonder i haven't heard of this show, it's not for popculture, it's meant to callout the harsh reality that's so vile you would look away from how ugly it is.

And hello Rowoon the actor.

ara Nov 30 2025 9:35 am A very unique story. For me, as a new K-drama watcher, this drama feels a bit heavy… But I’m sure many people really enjoy it.

Episode 1 made me a little confused, and now I just finished episode 7, so sad when Malbok died. I even cried… really heartbreaking T_T

The scene with the old man in the beginning was also very sad. Thinking about how people suffered like that in the past… it hurts to imagine.

The clothes, makeup, and expressions of all the actors are amazing. Seriously, their acting is so good, and the old-era setting looks very real.

Keep it up, all team, GOOD JOB! Thank you for giving us such a unique, rare, and beautiful drama at the end of 2025. Everything was made with care and delivered so well.

Roe Nov 08 2025 3:37 am For those saying the ending was bad, it only means you didn’t get the essence of the whole story. This isn’t your typical Kdrama. The show was built around reality. There is greed, corruption, and heavy manipulation especially in politics. The ending wasn’t meant to please. It was meant to reflect how the world actually works.

But it also shows that there are still genuinely good people despite all the pain and hardships they’ve been through. It portrays how unfair the world can be, yet there’s still goodness that exists even amid all the ugliness and cruelty of others. And I really think they portrayed their characters very well. Shin Ye Eun and Park Seo Ham is great and of course all the veteran actors and actresses as well. As for Seokwoo oppa, he was truly amazing, he showed his essence as an actor in this drama. I really hope there’s a season 2. This is a must watch!

No need for Season 2. Open ending but remarkable!

Chey Oct 16 2025 3:54 am The Murky Stream is soooo underrated! I have been hooked on this series since it's pilot episode. Rowoon and Park Ji Hwan are both impeccably good in their characters. Hoping them two will bag awards on this one at the end of 2025. Nevertheless, Shin Yee Eun didn't disappoint. Hmmmm....2 more episodes and it'll will be The End. I don't want this serie to be dragged to 16 episodes either. This was really worth my time!

Oct 05 2025 9:36 pm Our handsome young Ro woon has grown into a superb seasoned lead actor in this drama, his portrayal of a multifaceted character, in joseon Era was excellent bravo , so was Park ji hwan in his support role . I just loved this drama first 5 episodes, I was mesmerized by its cinematography’s realistically depiction of the joseon era’s exciting rural life. Hope they continue this theme by staying away from what seems to be new genre in the latest dramas , full of unnecessary violence , homosexuality, drugs , lust and anti Christian themes. To me this was just a pure Korean entertainment that I fell in love with since 2016 , bravo to the writer, director , cast , and cinematographer .

Like Pachinko, this series has wonderful filmography with sets that make you feel you are back in the nonglamourous peasant society of the 16th century Joseon period. I think there will be some awards for the series. I hope the consecutive episodes don't stray too much from this authenticity and make it glamorous. That would be a betrayal.
