One day, mysterious parasites fall from the sky. They enter humans as their hosts and also murder other humans. The parasites begin to create their own force. Humans must now fight to stop the invading creatures from taking over the world.

Jeong Su-In (Jeon So-Nee) is penetrated by a parasite, but the parasite fails to take over her brain. Jung Su-In and the parasite begin to live together.

Seol Kang-Woo (Koo Kyo-Hwan) chases after parasites to find his missing younger sister.

Choi Jun-Kyung (Lee Jung-Hyun) is the chief of the parasite task force. She lost her husband to the parasites and her life goal is to eradicate them.

Notes

Based on manga series "Kiseiju" by Hitoshi Iwaaki (published from 1988 to 1995 by Kodansha's Afternoon magazine). The screenplay for "Parasyte: The Grey" tells an original story with new characters.

Aime Nov 09 2024 3:25 pm I've never commented before, but I want to comment on this one. I like this drama so much, much more than Gyeongseong Creature, Sweet Home, and Hellbound.

[ CONTAINS SPOILERS ] The story develops so well and the ending is perfect. I watch this knowing that the story is different from the original, so I have no expectations even though I've seen the anime before. I thought they were just taking the main idea of the original story, I don't even think the story is set in a different country in the same universe as the original, so when Shinichi shows up at the end, it's shocking and really rewarding for me. Netflix always make an open ending with this kind of drama, but this one, I think they really did a great job. They could continue it, but it's really fine if they don't, for 6 episodes they show us that the story has no relation to the original, but then they make a twist at the end.

kaito Nov 04 2024 7:26 pm Jun-kyung character is so annoying. I hate the way she talks. It's like she's always talking to children even though she's addressing law enforcement people. So unprofessional, and she's Team Captain too. The special forces are shown as badass then they're led by a woman that talks like that? Her cringe overpowers their badassery. I have nothing against naturally soft-spoken people but her character seems to intentionally talk like that to be condescending. Then she uses a big voice when she's angry but she's not intimidating because she's been talking in a disgustingly sweet tone almost the entire time.

In any case, decent series. I'm a fan of the anime and the Japanese live-action movies weren't bad. The lore and rules seem different but that's ok. The alien fights look great but they're often set at night, maybe to disguise the minor flaws in CGI(?) although it's not bad. The lead is likable..the human side is a sad character but at least she has a journey and she's not a sickeningly good person. The alien side is likable as well, and surprisingly relatable—it just wants to survive. It wants to stay away from trouble but when trouble finds it, it fights hard so it's really not a coward.

Overall very enjoyable. It's short with 6 episodes but that's ok because the anime is expansive with multiple seasons so what other new thing can they offer with this one character? If they're gonna have a Season 2, they'd better introduce something new—maybe a new character, different location, different period? But for Su-in, 6 episodes seem adequate enough.

There are so many ways to make it cheesy or CGI-looking. But I never felt this was the case in “Parasyte : The Grey.” Despite the subject of parasites, the drama remained natural, relatable and “human,” for a lack of a better term. In fact, I think it is fair to say that there was actual humanism in the story’s message, as well as in the way the parasites were portrayed as creatures with reason, albeit different from ours. In addition to the main duo, I loved the performances of the “trio” Kwon Hae-Hyo, Lee Jung-Hyun and Kim In-Kwon.

Great ending. Could be a good end in itself or a springboard for a second season. Either way, I am satisfied with this short series.

I enjoyed this one better than sweet home 2 and gyeongseong creature.

Trigger Apr 07 2024 8:02 am You have to understand that this is not a direct adaptation of the Japanese manga/anime but rather, they made their own story and characters but they stay faithful to the plot. It’s more on a spin off. It’s like a Parasyte “universe” where there were the events in Japan (the anime) at the same time a different event in Korea (the live action). That’s why Masaki Suda has a cameo as Shinichi Izumi. So, stop comparing and complaining that it is different from the original source.

So to those who are complaining why the main lead is a female, or why there are lots of differences from the manga, u need to grow up and widen your intellectual capacity. This is a good adaptation and worth watching, period.
