A great flood hits planet Earth. People, including An-Na (Kim Da-Mi) and Hee-Zo (Park Hae-Soo) struggle to survive in their apartment building, which is sinking into the water.

An-Na is an AI development researcher. Hee-Zo belongs to a human resource security team and he is trying to save An-Na from the disastrous situation. Why is Hee-Zo trying to save An-Na and who is behind that?

TIkiPaul Feb 02 2026 9:59 am Great movie. I have really enjoyed the movies and shows with Kim Da-Mi. I had not heard of this movie until it popped up on Netflix and I started it right away without watching any trailers or getting any other information. When it started, I thought it was going to suck because I couldn't get my head around her being a six year old's mother. They didn't exactly click. I thought it was bad cast selection. But it as soon as the numbers appeared on her shirt, it all clicked and i was hooked. As a father to a son who is no longer with us, I cried when she had to leave him the first time. And I cried at the last scene. The styles and personalities of the characters Kim Da-Mi has played in Itaewon Class, Our Beloved Summer and now The Great Flood remind me of several people I knew and loved while living overseas. Every scene is bittersweet.

InfernoPenguin Jan 20 2026 1:38 am The movie kept us guessing and we enjoyed trying to figure it out! I'm surprised at the negative reviews, mostly from confused people. It's refreshing to see something different, and I appreciate the style of setting an entire story in a small/limited set (like Parasite). In a movie about what it means to be human, it's interesting how many viewers would have let the child die. Y'all need some patience and compassion.

HPM the professional reviewer Dec 28 2025 1:07 pm This movie is perfect! Yes, if the movie goes full in natural disaster theme, it would be so boring as hell! The genre shift and mixing with Ai theme, makes me interested and wanted to find the meaning after the movie ends, and watch again by fully understanding. And if you know about the truth, it would be so emotional by thinking that Ja-in seriously waited for his mom and watched his mom left him there for a thousand times until his mom finally realized and found Ja-in. I really loved that. 10/10 writing! Still hoping for Part 2 even it is so hard to continue.

A strange movie create by Psycho dreamer usually interesting, but this hard to digest, and it's hard to understand where the plot is going. Sorry to say, but this movie is indigestible. ? If it's just about Ana and Jain, there's no need to involve the imagination of a tons of sea water with a big tsunami wave or astronauts with spaceships or helicopters busy circling on the roof. It's a waste of energy to think about what the point of this plot is.

What a interesting movie. 9/10 for me. Its as mindblowing as Inception movie imho

It is part disaster, sci fi and mystery, I was confused at first but I stayed on watching the seemingly endless time loop similar to Tom Cruise's Edge of Tomorrow. When An-na died, her memories and emotions were used to create an AI version of a mother who genuinely cares for her child, recreating it over and over again until they are ready to be sent to Earth and repopulate it after suffering from the flood disaster.

The movie is not for everybody but will be appreciated by true science fiction fans.

Cook Dec 20 2025 1:36 pm Well done. Unlike other comments, I was glad it wasn't the typical natural disaster movie - why have another? This was sci-fi at its best, with a deeply emotional ongoing conflict. I think I'd have to watch it again to fully understand it, but a once-through got me at about 95%. Labeling it a sci-fi "Groundhog Day" is underwhelming, but then putting it in the category of "Memento" is complimentary. I loved it.

Tanya Dec 20 2025 9:20 am The synopsis and the trailer is so misleading. I thought its just a disaster drama but rather a sci-fi drama. So basically Anna is an AI emotional researcher and her teammate come up to create a robot in human form so the kid could not die easily. And there's a loop or a time traveller twist for this drama so she can go back and correct her past mistake to save the AI kid.

This drama is so bullshit I fast forwarded it to 2.0 to max, when I learned that the kid is not a human but AI bullshit story

mewsmews Dec 20 2025 8:14 am dear me. reading the comments here rubs the hilarious of the lack of brain cells and /or level of awareness. The movie plot, is simple. The movie tells you and shows you wha you need to know. "The great flood" is a misleading title, in a genious way, and it turned to be a cyberpunk genre.

fools questions: "same thing kept happening again and again. I was so confused!!!!" "Why did she go back in the past? And what's with the numbers on her shirt?"

really? none of you understood bananas of it?

[SPOILER] She never went back in time or past. She died, and asked to be the experiement subject. And as they said in the movie, "we already have a complete child. now we need a mother" And she said , to make a mother, she should go through obstacles to find the child. As AGAIN THEY SAID, creating emotions through experience. This was all a simulation, repeating over and over again, untill she finally gets her son. She kept doing game over and failing. The numbers on the shirt are the times she restarted. the drawings on the shirt are building block she "completed" before. The first time, the shirt is all white. The bulding blocks are shown in the movie in aerial view. The last shirt all bulding blocks are on the shirt, because she passed through all of them.

" the female lead choices are stressing me " Because its a simulation, as you being in game, and ignoring certain paths or quests. She was learning the process over and over again, with the goal being getting her son not taken by "the bad guys".

Really? how was all this so hard to follow? what i explained, its all on in the movie. Brain cells , anywhere? Attention Span?? Good God!

JG Dec 20 2025 1:08 am Here is explanation of the plot for those who had questions (spoilers): The project now had a child, but the next step was to produce an adult mother. This mother figure needed to have complete emotions. In order to have the full range of emotions of a mother, a human subject needed to have her memories downloaded into Emotion Engine. This digitized person then needed to go through many scenarios of searching for her child and ultimately being reunited with her child to fully develop the motherly instinct. Since Dr. Gu was mortally wounded, she was willing to be the test subject to have her memories downloaded into the Emotion Engine. She also wanted to be reunited with Ja-In. Once the mother and the child were reunited in the simulation, that would signal the program to create and release the new human hybrids to the now habitable Earth. The numbers on her T-shirt signified each time she had to start from the beginning of the scenario when she failed to find Ja-In. The opening act where Dr. Gu was able to escape the building and evacuate in a space shuttle was real. After she was plugged into the Emotion Engine, the subsequent scenarios where she had numbers on her T-shirts, were happening inside of the Emotion Engine matrix. Saving the human race from total extinction, albeit in a hybrid human form, relied solely on a mother‘s will to be reunited with her child.

Erik Dec 19 2025 11:17 pm I was initially excited to watch to watch the film because I love both Park Hae-soo and Kim Da-mi but the movie was very confusing. I was more curious about Hee-jo’s character like who is he. I thought he was the future version of the kid and try to save his mom, which could’ve gave his more depth. I digress. It was not my favorite project from either actor, but special effects and visuals look nice. It’s okay.
