To survive, a man hacked into a political slush fund worth 2 trillion won. The other man is a powerful shadowy figure, who loses 2 trillion won by killing a man without knowing that he was hacked.

Seo Dong-Joo (Park Hyung-Sik) works as a leader in the chairman's secretary office at Daesan Group. He is known as the "Daesan Man," someone who lives dies for Daesan Group's interests, but, he hides his elaborate and passionate ambitions deep within his mind. His ultimate goal is to entirely consume Daesan Group when he has the chance.

Yeom Jang-Sun (Heo Jun-Ho) is a law school professor and the former director of the National Intelligence Service. He is the most influential person in the South Korean political world. He even controls the kingmaker behind the scenes. Yeom Jang-Sun feels the zenith of joy when he wields money and power as he pleases. He is the type of person who feels alive only when he has control over everyone like a marionette puppet.

Jun 03 2025 10:16 am At first, I felt that the ending was unsatisfying and that it needed a Season 2, because I felt like the story had just reached its climax when Taeyoon was killed by his uncle. I was so angry… I told myself, “Why would the writer end it like this? The ending should’ve been more comforting.”

But then I watched the epilogue at the end, and that’s when I felt, “Oh… maybe there really doesn’t need to be a Season 2 after all.” Because when I thought back to the title of the drama, "Buried Hearts", I realized this is exactly what the writer wanted to convey to the audience: that all the characters in this story ended up with their hearts buried in some way. All of it stemmed from greed for power and jelousy.

I think the ending is fitting. It feels open-ended, but that’s exactly the point. Every action has its consequence and not every ending is meant to be a happy ending.

Lara May 29 2025 9:48 am I love Park Hyung Sik's acting but Im sorry, this drama sucks. Its so boring, the problem is not solved clearly, and the ending is weird, personally I dont think they need 16 episodes, it can be wrapped jn 10 eps actually. My advice, dont waste your time watching this.

I think this was a high level drama. Yea there some repetitive tropes used throughout but I thought it still kept my interest despite falling to the common pitfalls of these revenge dramas.

My biggest complaint comes from the freak within me. I know we like kdramas for their modesty but at a certain point, we have crossed over into the mainstream. No, I don't need to see huffing and panting and excess nudity, but you've got to stop putting these beautiful people together on screen and then giving of 5 total minutes of g-rated romance!

A+ for an ending kiss verses those ridiculous toddler hugs, or worse, blank stares between the leads, but still, I was hoping for a much more passionate reunion.

Here's looking at you, season 2. Let's run it back and take down the evil stepmother and her spawn.

It has a very talented cast but I felt the writer chose action scenes over character relationships, which given the amount of characters, some didn't even seem necessary as they had such limited screen time. Park Hyung-sik did a good job with Dong-ju but the relationship between him and Hong Hwa-Yeon went no where. The first episode ending at her surprise wedding gave me the impression that she was going to be a stronger presence in the series and for taking such a bold action, her character went no where nor did her marriage to Dong-ju's childhood enemy make sense. There are only so many murder attempts that I wanted to watch, and it became boring. There are some great scenes and good episodes, the story is good at times, and I have no regrets watching it but it didn't live up to my early expectations. I know a lot of people hated the ending but I think the writer remained consistent to their storyline, that the family was terrible, revenge is empty and comes with a price. Also a big price was paid by the offspring of a major character, a kind of karma that hurts. Was it worth the watch? I probably wouldn't have watched it if I know now what I didn't know then but no real regrets

Noni Apr 18 2025 5:06 pm As far as endings go, I wish I could physically hold this one, beat it to a pulp, and set it on fire. There is nothing worse than investing time into a drama and its characters and having it drag out like this only to have such a deeply pathetic ending. I'll make a note never to watch anything from this writer or director ever again. The only thing soothing my anger is the fact that I skipped through most of it and skipped a few episodes. If I had actually sat through every minute of this I'd be finding the writer and director online to curse them out for such rubbish.

Don't be fooled by the first 4 episodes. This drama is complete trash.

Park Hyun Sik Apr 18 2025 4:45 am Actually, I was interested in this drama when I saw some of scene cut when YEN beat the crap of her husband. I watched first episode, feels bored and like I couldn't catch up with the story but I forced myself to continue until I reach the episode with the scenes that made me interest in the first place. I lost count which episode made me realize that this drama actually stupid, characters also stupid and frustrate me with how their mind work in the show, I mean I wouldn't surprise if they all ended up dead, they all so stupid. Especially the villain, writer-nim, too many logical plot hole and skipped important detail. I understand the high rating because it make you curious what will happen next, but this drama JUST STUPID. The writing scenario didn't worth the scale or scope of the conflict in the drama.

Yeom Jang Sun Apr 14 2025 1:18 pm (SPOILERS) Almost Perfect 9/10. I expect Seo Dong Ju shot himself in the end but we have useless throwback instead. I love that Seon U clear his path to be the President of Daesan Group. He is so cool, he literally pave his own way.. I understand Seonu,, I mean Huh Tae Hyun is a weak son from killer parent so he deserve that ending for the better of Daesan future.. Huh bloodline must be vanished hence why the ending almost perfect (I just assume SDJ suicide in the end). Yeom Jang Sun,, with his NIS background, I hope he can get away from prison. SDJ help him to grow some hair and got some nice haircut (but I expect some brocolli fluffy hair, however he did some mewing so it kinda help a bit).. He also rewarded with one kg of gold, nice kindergarten, and Seon U which mean Yeom finally realize his dream to have full controll of Daesan! And uh.. Hui Cheol finally succesfully run his own firm, I hope him the best with Eun Nam... He is caring Eun Nam and they should've become a tremendous couple after SDJ anounced dead. Cant wait for season 2 where we fully ditch dementia Cha and have Seonu full control of Daesan with Yeom as mastermind backed by the President of South Korea!! It will be an amazing company,, If seo dong ju alive,, well okay then I also sometimes thinking about sleeping with my step sister!! It's a step with some spice of incest. I understand the writer-nim,, please oppa just do whatever you want...

Maria Errica Lim Apr 14 2025 9:36 am Spoilers! A finale that not all viewers would love to end. But in my viewpoint, Buried Hearts is still the best Korean Drama that Park Hyung Sik has played on. Far from the "butterflies on stomach - feels", far from the usual rags to CEO riches glamour, far from the happy - ever after epilogue. It closes on an open ended scene that makes its viewers think about what will happen and why does it suddenly happened which is not expected at all. At my subconscious Kdrama mind, I was crying out for a season 2, but a part of me tells me so that since this is a far cry from the stigma of the revenge stories, maybe there will never be a season 2 of this (But, I am still keeping my hopes high)

The thing is, Seo Dong Ju got his revenge and had chosen a path to leave everything behind at Daesan. It was his sole dream to have Daesan group in his hands and it ended well right on top of his palm and if he opted to play the cards well on his favor, he could do whatever he wants but his good nature toppled over his ambition and greed.

The hunger for power to lead Daesan never left the people behind it, the greed grew more and stemmed from a once mild-natured tiny bud into a monstrous thorn, stabbing the innocent one from the back. It was never expected, having caught a glimpse of a tender moment between the two young lads and suddenly it ended grimly. Good will always triumph over evil but it ended for the two on a different note.

Buried Hearts has never been a romantic drama, I agree to some fellow who thinks there was no chemistry between the Eunnam and Dong Ju at all. Maybe it was really planned that way, to cast someone without a striking chemistry with PHS so as not to redirect the plot to a romance story and just focus on the essence of revenge. It was shown that the love between the two characters was still there but they made their choices, with Dong Ju fulfilling his journey to the sea and at the same time fulfilled what his father wished and Eunnam hoping for him to come back.

One could never imagine losing a child that has been his mother's whole world. Cha Duk Hee's pain is unimaginable, truly unfathomable.

Cha Kuk Hee seem to got what she truly wished for, but seems to lack confidence and strength to contain the power she got.

Dementia has taken over the chairman and the new matriarch seems overwhelmed with the power she and her son has acquired.

With his perfect memorization skills, Seo Dong Ju will be haunted by the painful events of his life as long as his mind is perfectly working. It will be a struggle to bury his pain in his heart as long as he remembers.

Of course, we wanted DJ to rebuild his life, but after all the physical and psychological torture he endured, it's unrealistic to expect him to bounce back overnight. Let's not forget his initial drive to climb the corporate ladder was to gain his supposed father Mr. Seo's love. It later became a survival struggle and ultimately a personal vendetta. Realistically, emotional scars can last for years, and it's normal for DJ to question his purpose after going through so much pain. For anyone, taking a step back to reevaluate their future (likely with the woman they love) is a healthy response. I'm fine with this ending being open to interpretation. As for Taeyun's fate... I think they used that to gauge interest in a potential season 2.

This drama is very predictable but it's an okay watch. It's definitely a standard Korean drama with conglomerate game of thrones, murder plots, business marriage with unrequited love, and good ole amnesia! LOL. This one was made for a typical Korean audience. Don't have your expectations too high when you watch.

Anyways (Spoilers) ...

Dandelion unveiled that a long, long time ago, the NIS switched Secretary Gong's daughter. So Cha's real daughter was actually Dong Ju's real mom, who had been with the guy who Dong Ju thought was his father, but who was killed by Eun Nam's father-in-law, who turned out to be Dong Ju's dad (Ill Do). So technically, Dong Ju's mom was actually the real Cha daughter, and Dong Ju's dad thought that Eun Nam's dad tried to steal his girlfriend, so he decided to kill them both. With control of Yeom, he wanted to marry the descendant of the Daesan Group daepyonim, but it turned out she was actually not the descendant (they switched Secretary Gong's baby), so Eun Nam and Tae Yoon do not have the bloodline of Cha. The same thing happened with Yeong Su, who is Seon Wu's mom, who married Cha, but actually, the closeness of Yeong Su with Yeom might suggest that Yeom is the real dad of Seon Wu. So Yeom tried to kill all of the Cha bloodline and leave his son to be the future of Daesan. The correct descendant is: Cha married Secretary Gong; their daughter is Cha Gyeung Won. Cha Gyeung Won had a baby with Huh Ill Do—Huh Dong Ju—who is the only one left now for the future of Daesan.

KdramaHalmoni Apr 06 2025 6:16 pm To all kdrama halmonis (been a fan of kdrama for 20+ years), this drama is a no for me. This could have been 8 episodes long but disney decided to prolong it to 16. Whew! Also very cliché plot: amnesia, lost relative, revenge, revenge conclusion. That ending is sooo predictable, I thought Dongju would have more creative ideas. I skipped 11 and 12 but still understood 12 and 14 without feeling that i've missed any episode.

I wouldn't say boring plot, but just cliché. Park Hyun Sik carried this whole drama.

6/10 for me.

Plot started off well and greating acting from Park Hyung Sik in general. Aside from that, it is the usual general mixture of makjang and revenge drama cliches. Feels way too draggy for 16 episodes. Main FL has almost no purpose except for signaling the start of a new arc in the storyline. The main antagonist, Yeom, just feels so ridiculously polarizing between ruthless and soft that I cannot decide on what kind of character he is suppose to be. There is still potential for it to wrap up decently with a satisfying revenge on Yeom to make up for the drag.

In my opinion, the storyline appears/seems not to be progressing dynamically.

Well crafted, writer Lee Myung Hee, you had whipped a story that stirs up viewers as though you connect with what we thought and what we wished should come after, right then, just after watching each episode. On the 14th episode now, and it's getting even hotter than summer. Good conquers all evil, Mr. Yeom will soon be over.

BTW, I haven't seen that senior actor Il-Do ever before. This is my 1st time. Wow,great actor. Love when it's Il-Do & Dong Ju's intense scene. Both act with their eyes...phew, daebak!

As for Hyung Sik, I already known him and become a fan for a very long time. I noticed his good look right away and already noticed his talent from beginning. But this acting...this is best of the best so far.

I haven't watch this type of drama for a very long time. This type is kinda old fashion drama, I would say. Plot twist,lost child,lost memory... I kinda miss this genre so I am pretty excited got the chance to watch this type of genre again. And what make the drama even better is when the actors play the characters so well.

I wish it just 12 episodes because I can't wait to see the ending. Or maybe I should just wait until it end then I watch it marathon. But another 4 episodes to go so I just go with it.

Wonder if it's happy ending because this type usually don't have a great ending. Aigoo, writer nim, you better don't make me piss, jinjja.

Errica Lim Mar 28 2025 5:37 pm Flashing back the tragic past uncovered mysteries hidden beneath the power struggle and treacherous schemes. It was revealed that at the time of the car accident, Huh Ildo found out the DNA of Seonghyeon and Yeo Sun Ho matched, that made him decide to push through on killing the passengers. I had a feeling that, Ildo was not really a bad guy from the start. He was just manipulated by the evil Mr. Yeom. And on that twist of events, Mr. Yeom fabricated the DNA test to fire up Ildo's fury and to proceed on the killing, later on becoming the Daesan group son-in-law.

I'm still on point with my views that Huh Ildo is the biological father of Seo Dongju. With Mr. Yeom saying that the son is better than the father and what a waste to end Dong Ju's life. Mr Yeom holds the key to the truth behind all of Dong Ju's miseries.

Franz Mar 26 2025 3:50 am My theory: Seo Dong Ju is the son of deceased Yeo Sun Ho with another woman ( working in the bar) before Marriage. While Yeo Eun-Nam is the daughter of Hu II- Do and Cha Duk-Hee affair during marriage with Yeo Sun Ho. In Cha Duk- Hee desire to be the only heir of Daesan, she killed Yeo Sun Ho through a Car Accident. Seo Dong Ju fortunately escaped from accident and was found wandering in the streets.

Cha Duk-Hee is the illegitimate daughter of Secretary Kong. She was adopted by the Chairman Cha. Maybe?

This theory also posits that Chairman Cha is Seo Dong Ju's eldest brother because Heo Jun Jo with his first wives Secretary Gong. Since Seo Dong Ju is still experiencing amnesia (he is suffering since first episode, sometimes recover but sometimes having delulu), the drama's point of view is his, which could explain why everything I said feels so weird you will understand once everything goes full circle. Remember that Chairman Cha has had a brain issue which actually occur since the first episode, but his amnesia keeping him going to the doctor for first check-up every year, as his memory keep restart near that time. This conclude that chairman and secretary role is just a roleplay of two brother sharing same gen mutation making them both having such issue on their brain.

She was really jealous, either at her ex husband or at seong hyeon. So she planned the car accident. Until now, she always feels threaten by her father's son.

Maria Errica Lim Mar 22 2025 12:54 am Possible twists could be that Seo Dong Ju could be Secretary Kong's son with Hu Ildo, it could be reflected thru Hu Ildo's weird and awkward behavior towards Seo Dongju, it could be because even if they are not both aware of the fact, blood is thicker than water and it bonds in the most unexpected ways. Huh Tae-Yoon's fondness for hi Hyung Seo Dong Ju exists maybe because they are biological hal-brothers.

Another twist could be he is the son of Cha Duk Hee's deceased husband and Hu Ildo's friend with Secretary Kong. And that, Eun - nam, (as what @Jin said previously in the comments) could actually be Ildo's biological daughter.

So far, this is the best thrilling, suspenseful and intriguing K Drama of PHS. Love his visuals and I adore the writer of the story! on my 9th episode and my rating here is 9 out of 10.

Either, (a) Seo Dongju could be Chairman Cha's deceased son Cha Deokhui with Secretary Gong and if so, Seo Dongju is Eun-nam's cousin, or (b) Eun-nam's dad Yeo Sun-ho's illegitimate son with Secretary gong and if so, Seo Dong-ju is Eun-nam's half-sibling.

I’m dying to know who Dongju really is and how the ending will be!! Please have a happy ending for Dongju and Eunnam! They deserve happiness! Plus the ost and the instrumental in the drama fits perfectly with every scenes. The emotional scene gives me goosebumps and tears ! it’s a very unique drama because you rarely get the see these types of genre in K-drama! Very strong intense storyline which makes you dying to know what’s gonna happen next! lol so obsessed with this drama!!! A combination of romance and revenge is my cup of tea lol It’s indeed one of best Kdrama so far!!! Fighting Buried Hearts!

mike Mar 08 2025 11:00 pm Lmao ep6 ending.....hard to describe how i feel but 100% scripwriters, directors are going to a hellhole with that plot. Looking at the built up, they will have problem to fill up the hole they built. Can sense that the ending is gonna be sh*t.

Even the secretary Kong was bothered by the disappearance and resurfaced of the memory-loss PHS character. Are they related in some ways? And behind being puppeteered by the evil, Mr. Yeom, will Mr. President turn to save Director Seo? This series is getting interesting each turn of the episode.

As I understood from Eps 1-3, they were 'flashback'. Yeo Eun-Nam is married to Yeom Jang Sun's grandson Yeom Hui-Cheol. Seo Dong-Joo was shot by Huh Il-Do (Huh II-Do is Yeo Eun-Nam's step-father), rescued by Bae Won-Bae and suffering from amnesia.
